To me Season Five was the high point of SONS OF ANARCHY. This was the one season where I loved every character and every plot made sense. This was the season where Jax really became a leader, the hero of the show. His triumph is a perfect example of what is written on the club house wall, brains before bullets. Jax was always one step ahead this season. And there were so many twists and turns right up to the season finale. Here are some high points of this amazing season, speaking of the entirety and not just the finale.
Opie has the best exit of any regular series character, going out like a mighty warrior instead of a lovable but clueless sidekick.
All of Nero's scenes with Jax were golden. Here was a guy from outside the club, from a totally different part of town, but every time Jax and Nero talk you can see they were meant to be brothers. And that chase scene where they play chicken with the bad guys, classic! "I don't get out much."
Mr. Damon Pope was my favorite of all Sons of Anarchy villains. He was the one evil villain who seemed genuinely intelligent, with real reasons for his cruelty. And the way he mentored Jax so convincingly made their relationship suspenseful right to the very end.
Tig Trager really evolved in this season. Back in Season One when he was just Clay's hatchet man, he had so many creepy one liners that he seemed more like Chucky than a real hero in his own right. But this year really highlights all the ways that Tig is more human, more honest, more alive than his old mentor Clay. There were times when you really believed Jax was fated to be his nemesis, yet the ending is still a shock. And don't forget man's best friend. Woof!
If it was up to me, Sons of Anarchy would have ended with Jax in power and Clay on the way to prison. The last two seasons were okay, but things were never this good in Charming again.
