Excellent short: strong on story and character
Tim-kearns6 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Taste of Copper is a fine short, with a great premise, superb acting (with up and coming Scott Haze), great shooting, and a solid denouement.

The premise (SPOILER): a scientist clones himself, but the clone is a better man than he is, and jealousy comes. In the end, the scientist pretends that he is the clone, so as to take over the stronger, better persona. A strange twist in medical ethics!

The acting: Scott Haze---that says enough, I think. The supporting actors feel a little outclassed by him, but that is just the sense one gets.

The shooting: good effects for a short--but they don't look or feel like effects; you have to go back to realize them, so smoothly are they interspersed--great camera-work, setting, costumes, all of it fit just right. I think it was actually shot in a working lab! The director must have know that was necessary for the full effect.

The denouement: I've given it away already, but as with everything excellent, the real joy is in seeing HOW he pulls it off, not just knowing WHAT he does.

All in all, one of the better shorts in a long time. (Particularly, among sci-to shorts: this one is heavy on story and character, not inane premises or bizarre non sequiturs, much less sex stuff or drugs or sadistic self-indulgence. Just good old fashioned story telling here!)
