Thank God for Weekend Update
anniec627 December 2022
This season has been a train wreck. The sketches are cringe worthy, they're so bad. I have been watching SNL since the 70s. It hurts me to see such weak writing.

The only thing worth watching these days is the cold opening, the host monologue, and weekend update. Occasionally there may be a sketch that's funny. But they are few and far between. Even the cold openings have bombed and they typically are the highlight for me. I do love Che and Jost and thankful for Weekend Update.

I want funny back in the sketches. Crossing my fingers that Steve Martin will bring something to next week's episode.

SNL is consistent. Another unfunny show.

The cold opening was week, followed by an unfunny host monolog. None of the sketches were able to bring out a chuckle. Next we were treated to a terrible musical guest. Finally came Weekend Update, which is the only saving grace. Those jokes were the only worthwhile part of the show; however, when they bring on a cast member to interact with the news host, in really slows the pace down. On to the second terrible musical number. The final sketch could have been cut. Unfortunately I could cut and paste this review and use it to describe most every show this season. I hear there is some talk of a possible replacement for Loren Michael's. While such a move was a disaster in the 80's, I believe it's time for a change of direction. Either that or cancel the show and put it out of it's misery.

Not funny

I know the entertainment industry has entered this bizarre phase where representation matters more than actual entertainment, but sometimes someone has to be the lucid one to stand up and say "this was not entertaining, and not funny". Well, here I am to be the one to say this was not entertaining, and not funny.

If you ever wanted to know what Keke Palmer's pregnant belly looks like, your wish has been fulfilled, and then some, with this episode. No problem with that, it's nice to see a proud future mother. My problem with that was when it seemingly became the plot piece for 70% of the episode.

Speaking of pregnancy, the "babies" skit was so not funny I really think Loren must not review the material before it gets to air anymore. Just painful stuff.

I know the cast members are largely responsible for the writing on this series, so I'm assuming the new cast members just haven't found their rhythm, or something, but I'm starting to not care if I miss this show, it's just not enjoyable to watch anymore.
