Considered to be a romance film I would give a 5/10.

The writer and the director "note" at the beginning that their film was inspired from true events and try to give a true aspect in the film. I am fan of Turkish movies because they are original and try to explain the Turkish way of living and thinking (for example from Çağan Irmak).

From my point of view the film is so evidence based on true events as the Da Vinci Code film:) Even if you try, the events do not match a real chronological order, the people in the 1950-1970 were not so open minded (both Greeks and Turks) to afford love affairs. The plot is overall a love affair of a lady with an British, a Greek and a Turk, interrupted with a Rape and shootings between Greeks and Turks. The only real things are the names that match with the ethnicity (see Adamos, Kemal etc:)

I wouldn't say not watch it, but I would expect more for this kind of movie, except if you see it only as a romance film.

the way movie start was actually pretty good. but if they were wouldn't leave the Barnabas bible it would be much better. while you are watching you feel the affect of the movie, you go to 1970's. as a bad comment i can only say i want more why did you finish??? because at the end of the movie you feel like you can watch this movie for 2 more hours. it was a good movie and i think everyone who lives on island should watch this movie. they can take lessons as how they want it. congrats Tamer i hope you make another movie. and about the stars, they acted like an Hollywood stars. with little budget they make a hell of a movie. i personally met with Jolie m. and she is one of the most natural women i ever met.

Eager but highly disappointed Eyes were glued to the screen as I awaiting the beginning of this highly anticipated film about the conflict in Cyprus spanning three decades, intermingled with a story about of love and treachery. From the word go the film didn't know what it was meant to be and I as well as the two friends found it extremely difficult to identify with any of the key roles. The plot jumped from character to character and left us thinking "where did that came from". Direction was abysmal , Acting was poor with accents sounding so wrong and actors were not believable, one of the aspects that stood out was that the film was trying to be too big for its budget, you could quite clearly see where the budget had been cut, three cars for the whole one which had been blown up then used again in another scene, camera angles when shots had to take on a lot restricted so that key could make it look larger than it really is. Couple of good points I felt that the DOP was good, lighting seemed to be really nice, and costume believable… I left after watching the film disappointed not sure if that is my fault as I had such high expectations of this film

An interesting film…

In the beginning, you think that it is going to be a historical war film but it is not only about war in Cyprus but also about love. There are two "enemies". A Greek Cypriot, Adamos, and a Turkish Cypriot, Kemal, who love the same woman, Jasmine. At the end of the film you find a big surprise.

I'm not sure what to say about the political language of the film. On the one hand it seems that it's close to the official Turkish point of view but at the same time, you can see that it isn't. Women complain about the war but men never complain. On the contrary, they are fighting for their community!

The end of the film is touching.

An excellently adopted story about Cyprus division. If you want not only read dry facts about events happened here, but also feel the mentality, way of thinking, temperament of both Greek and Turkish Cypriots - this movie is for you. It dips you right in the atmosphere of common people's life with love, friendship, work, disturbed by shots and threats from those who lived next to them. The movie greatly shows the way from living, celebrating, going out together to killing and having a "wall" between each other. The value of movie is also in question it asks: what is more valuable for you - the intangible ideals of being the best, the rightest or happiness of your friend, whom you know from early childhood? And this question is greatly underlined by the love between two main and very different heroes.

I also would like to underline good actors' playing and greatly made costumes, and, of course excellent showing of how people of Cyprus live.

I have never really watched a movie that wasn't made in Hollywood or my countries own movie called Nollywood,thus i suffered a little bit of culture shock.The beginning of the movie was a little bit shaky and funny, but later i fell in love with the movie, and i got so emotional when the little boy was shot.I loved the chemistry between Yasmın and her Turkish lover,and i felt her pain when she was been raped, which has always been one of the ills of war or conflict, in which most movies tend to ignore making the main character looking untouchable. Thumbs up to the producers and actors and actress of the film, for a small time production it was well played, now i believe one can make a great impact and contribution in life with whatever little we have. kudos team....

A film worth watching. I just watched it and and I am still thinking about it. The only thing wrong with it is that it finishes so soon.It flows so quickly.It needs another 20 minutes on top of the 90 minutes.I think the lead actress(Venus)Jolie Myatt and Cengiz Bozkurt (Adamos) is amazing.The story and cinematography is excellent.I hope there is a sequel.And Cyprus's story is so tragic that I felt sorry for the Country.The fact that its based on a true story it makes it even more interesting.My girlfriend cried at the end but I did not.I came out feeling what a tragedy.I have enjoyed it very much.I don't understand some of the reviews here.I am not sure if we are reviewing the same film.

I have watched the film quite recently, thanks to a friend of mine, and found it fantastic! Worth to watch...

Nice pictures from the beautiful island.

The film is taking place in Cyprus, from the mid 50s till 74. The story of a young and beautiful woman, who finds herself in the middle of a tensed situation in Cyprus. Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots are fighting with each other, British are using some strategies to not to loose the control of island and people are finding their own ways under circumstances...

A nice combination of love and history. The love story of a man and a woman and the one in the middle..

I had a chance to watch the film when I was in Cyprus. Code Name Venus is a film that is about three men and a woman's love story. It started with a woman's quest for rediscovering her past life but at the same time it is about inter ethnic violence and love. Personally, I like the images in the film so much. The landscape is quite nice and it reminded me how beautiful Cyprus was in the past. Good camera angles, good location shots... Lighting is surprisingly good from a Cypriot director! Probably the best quality of images from Cyprus up until now! The only problem in the film is the issue of the Gospel of St Barnabas. I was expecting to have more information but at the end of the film it just ended! Generally speaking, a film that is worth to watch.

Exelant Film congratulations to the cast and the director one of the best documentaries i have seen.It could not have been more to the truth about the events that took place in Cyprus.After 50 years the truth has started to surface.Only God is the true witness of exactly what happened in Cyprus in that era.The purpetrators know who they are and it will be a matter of time before they will be held to account for their actions. How amazing that a whole country could split people that grew up together as brothers and sisters could end up killing each other all because of a handful of people thats what money/power does to some people if they have no fear of the creator.May god bless you all.

I stumbled this movie while i'm surfing on the internet. I'm living in Northern Cyprus for a while now and i have no idea about they were shooting movies or doing things like that. When you started to watch the movie you realize that-even though there are some scenes that talking Turkish- you can understand them so easily it's not like an Indian or Arabic film English. About the story i couldn't find a gap, it covers almost all the bases. You started with a scene that pretty traumatized for the main character and it goes around her. While you are watching you lost yourself in the movie you become one of the people who clapping or dancing. I don't know is it based on a true story or not yet i liked the movie and i smell the old times while i'm watching it. You might think that 10 is a overrated vote yet when you watch it you'll understand it. I think there is no copyright issues about the movie i watched from Near East University site i think there is some kind of sponsor thing. It's a nice movie that deals with love, conspiracy, and action. The story is constructed in a nice way however, it would have been much better if they wouldn't left out the story of the gospel of Saint Barnabas. The triangle and tension between Jasmine, Adamos, and Kemal were shown in a good way. Historically speaking, the movie gives some information about how the situation was in Cyprus back then. At the same time, one of the things that I liked most with the movie is that although people were experiencing war, still there was a humane aspect of it. In other words, both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot women are the ones who suffered because of the war and men are the ones who are fighting. Overall, I recommend the movie to everyone because the movie is not limited to Cypriots but anyone who is interested about action and love movies.
