Oh, Blake's 7 - it's been a rocky road to revival-dom. A new series based on Terry Nation's cult classic was first mooted back in 2008, when Sky1 expressed an interest in producing two 60-minute specials...
The broadcaster ultimately backed out, following an extensive development process, in 2010. Reports of a Us network remake then surfaced in mid-2012, solidifying in April this year when cable channel Syfy announced that it had ordered 13 hour-long episodes...
But now the project's fate has been thrown into question *again*. Despite initial reports claiming that it would air the remake on its Xbox Live digital network, Microsoft now appears to have denied any involvement in bringing Blake back to our screens.

A planned Blake's 7 remake will not air on Microsoft's Xbox Live, a new report has claimed.
It was previously suggested that the software giant would fund a revamped version of the sci-fi cult classic, which it would then air on its digital network.
However, Microsoft's Kate Barnes has now told Den of Geek that there is "nothing" to the rumours.
"I think the rumours took on a lot of speed because sci-fi is obviously something at the heart of Xbox, but no, there's nothing to that," Barnes is quoted as saying.
Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is still thought to be attached to the Blake's 7 remake.
The original series starred Gareth Thomas and Paul Darrow and aired for four series on BBC One between 1978 and 1981.

Microsoft will reportedly fund a remake of sci-fi cult classic Blake's 7.
The company has agreed to finance the project, which it plans to air on its Xbox Live digital network, according to The Financial Times.

The plans are described as part of Microsoft's ambition to reposition Xbox as an 'entertainment hub', and to directly compete with other online subscription services.
Microsoft has apparently replaced Us cable channel Syfy on the project, with the latter having previously confirmed its intention to resurrect the BBC series.
Syfy had lined up 13 hour-long episodes, to be written by Joe Pokaski (Heroes) and directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).
London TV company Motion Picture Capital is now said to be redeveloping the series, while Campbell remains on board to direct the project.

Andrew talks us through ten things he hopes to see in Syfy's in-development reboot of Terry Nation's Blake's 7...
The immediate problem any remake of Terry Nation’s dystopian space opera faces is that of the Battlestar Galactica in the room, disguised as an elephant (but does it know it’s an elephant?).
Blake’s 7 managed to broadcast its lead character being framed as a paedophile, the execution of a large gang of political dissenters by the police, and the swift despatch of an investigating legal official (and his partner) by state-endorsed assassination. All this in its first episode, broadcast on a Monday evening on BBC One at 7.45pm. Bang Goes the Theory is on at that time now.

This is happening. From BBC News: Cult classic sci-fi series Blake's 7 is to be remade for the Syfy network, it has been announced. FremantleMedia International said 13 hour-long episodes will be written by Heroes writer Joe Pokaski. It added, in a statement, that Casino Royale and Goldeneye director Martin Campbell was also on board. The original series, which ran on the BBC between 1978 and 1981, followed the exploits of a group of renegades and convicted criminals. ... According to FremantleMedia, the new series will be set in 2136 and will "tell the story of seven criminals - six guilty and one innocent - on their way to life on a prison colony in space, who together wrestle freedom from imprisonment". It continued: "They acquire an alien ship which gives them a second chance at life and become the most unlikely heroes of their time".

Avon calling... again! After years of being tantalised by the prospect of a Blake's 7 remake - Sky1 looked set to reboot Terry Nation's creation, but later axed the project - fans of the cult classic were finally given reason to celebrate yesterday (April 8) when it was confirmed that Syfy had ordered 13 new hour-long episodes.
The new Blake's 7 - described as a "revolutionary reinvention" of the original - has a strong pedigree, with Heroes scribe Joe Pokaski and Casino Royale director Martin Campbell both on board.
With the crew set, my fan mind naturally turned to casting - who could hope to replace the iconic Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow, Jacqueline Pearce and company?

Syfy is pressing ahead with a thirteen-episode first season of the long-gestating Blake's 7 remake.
Syfy's Blake's 7 reboot has passed the next stage in the winding path from notion to actual telly programme, with a series of thirteen one-hour episodes ordered by the channel. Produced by Georgeville TV, the remake will be written by Joe Pokaski (Heroes, CSI) and directed by Casino Royale and Goldeneye's Martin Campbell.
In a press release statement that - unironically, we assume - includes the word "amazeballs", Leon Clarance, the co-founder of Georgeville praises the tireless work of Pokaski and Campbell in rebooting the space opera, calling the show a "reimagined classic for a new generation of science fiction fans". FreeMantleMedia's David Ellender echoed Clarance's words, calling Blake's 7, "such a forward-thinking concept that the show continues to have resonance with audiences today," and promising that the...
