Zambezi: River of Life
TheLittleSongbird23 September 2019
The first two episodes "Okavango: Water of the Desert" and "Namibia: Sands of Time" were two of 'Wildest Africa's' most illuminating, with a lot of the content being not so familiar to me, and found myself learning a big deal. The previous episode "Ngorongoro: Born of Fire" was more familiar territory, excepting the Masai tribe, but still managed to be of excellent quality for similar reasons to the first two episodes and very interesting.

"Zambezi: River of Life" to me was the first episode to be more of a mix of the familiar and not so familiar, having prior knowledge of the locations and everything to do with Victoria Falls but not of what the local people dubbed it. The exceptionally high quality of the previous three episodes is very much here too in "Zambezi: River of Life". A lot is covered, yet it never feels like there is too much information given or that anything is underdeveloped.

All the previous episodes looked great. So does "Zambezi: River of Life", incredible actually. Have very rarely seen water filmed or portrayed so up close or vividly, especially the wild rush of the Zambezi River's water. The wildebeest migration is similarly jaw-dropping and have seen nothing really like it. The music doesn't intrude and is suitably dynamic.

Colin Salmon narrates with real engagement with the material, bringing the right amount of enthusiasm and sincerity to it. The information itself is informative but doesn't come over as too academic, with a good and successful attempt in making the information accessible and emotionally investable.

'Wildest Africa's' previous two episodes were interesting in showing cultural aspects and human impact, while "Zambezi: River of Life" concentrates quite rightly more on the water, its speed (all the different measurements of widths, heights and miles were among the most educational pieces of information of the episode) and its dangers.

Overall, great. 9/10
