'Hogmanay Live' is one of Scottish television's greatest enigmas. Each year, Jackie Bird waffles on about all the great things that have happened in the departing year, whilst in between musical acts live from Edinburgh are inflicted upon us, as well as contributions from Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham. In this edition, Gregor Fisher performed a sketch as Rikki Fulton's famous character The Reverend I. M. Jolly to commemorate the 40th anniversary of 'Scotch & Wry', which in my opinion was the only part of the show worth watching. Gregor later went on to say he regretted performing the sketch, feeling he was trying too hard to fill the shoes of Rikki. True, he did not do as good a job as Rikki ever did ( possibly because Gregor is a more animated performer than Rikki ) but compared to the garbage that passes for comedy and entertainment now, it was comedy gold!
