This is a review for the tenth episode of the first season of the Night Court Revival. This episode is entitled Marathon - thon- thon thon thon.
Like the last episode, I also give this one a 7/10 . It means that this is a standard Sitcom episode. This one and the last one are the first two of this revival to be up to the standards of being standard. Sad but true. Meaning that though there is nothing technically wrong with the episode, several things could have been done much better.
What works best in this episode are the performances of John Laroquette and Melissa Rauch as Dan Fielding and Abby Stone respectively. Guest star Pete Holmes also gives a pretty good performance as Abby's boyfriend Rand.
The best parts of the episode are when Abby enters her beast mode, Dan fibbing to a janitor, telling her that she convinced him and Gurgs not to vape, the part where Neil doesn't think he needs to practice serving runners water, and the part near the end where Gurgs makes Dan give a goodye speech to a.bench.
Before I saw this episode, I saw a promotional still and I was like, "This Pete Holmes looks a lot like John Ritter" so I was glad when his character made a joke about people thinking he was dressed up as John Ritter every Halloween.
I also really appreciated that , compared to previous episodes, the writers really packed this one full of jokes. Some worked and some didn't but that is all part and parcel of having your show grow comedically. Besides some of the jokes, there was nothing in the episode that didn't work. It was just that some things could have been done better, like some of the story writing.. Still, it was a fun watch.
Next time, I will be reviewing the eleventh episode. Stay tuned!
