Kevin Kline is a legend

"What a (April) Fool Believes" is a very entertaining episode. I tend to greatly enjoy episodes that prominently feature Calvin Fischoeder. Kevin Kline is an absolute treasure and infuses his role with so much wonderfully eccentric charm. It was also nice to see Zach Galifianakis return as Felix. The episode itself is full of laughs and the story actually took a few big swings throughout. This is definitely one of the mazier episodes of Bob's Burgers in my opinion. It was also nice to see some fun interactions between Bob and Louise. That's not to say their bond was the main focus, but it's always nice when the two of them are paired together. They really do have wonderful chemistry. Season thirteen has yet to disappoint me so far, and is shaping up to be one of my personal favorite years of the show. Here's hoping it can sustain its momentum and quality for the remaining episodes. Eight and a half stars for this one.

Lazy & revisionist

Warning: Spoilers
My two cents about the decline of this show over the last few years has pretty much boiled down to the creative staff being stretched too thin what with trying to have ideas/dialogue for the movie, The Great North and Central Park all at once. IMO all the above suffered from the expansion greed, especially Bob's Burgers' episodes. But now that the movie has thudded onto Hulu, Central Park has mercifully been canceled (unfortunately TGN is still out there but whatever) so I guess now while do get some gems like this season's Christmas episode & the very well made teen-angst episode prior to this, diaper-loads like this episode can only be attributed to lazy writing.

So in 250+ episodes plus 1 movie there has been ZERO mention of April Fool's pranks, let alone Fishoeder favoriting Bob as a prank target nor even his kids or wife being interested in April Fool's as a fav holiday right up there with Halloween and Christmas, but suddenly these lazy writers retcon it in as this big thing AND then try to Columbo/Inception it as pranks within pranks within pranks that somehow everyone, including lying-phobic Tina, is able to poker-face their way to perfect execution?! Yeah, right!

LAZY!!!

I'll say again, LAZY!!!!!, poorly executed and a big middle finger to folks that have literally watched all the episodes.

You know a show is jumping the shark when it starts actively antagonizing its fan-base. Oh well, at least SOME of the episodes have been good this year. Won't hold my breath.

This used to be a show I looked forward to each Sunday. Something to lift my spirits before facing Monday and the beginning of yet another tough week. Now it's just another tv show I stream on Hulu when there's nothing else better to stream anywhere else.
