I think it is fair to say that Lisa Immordino Vreeland has a preoccupation with the upper class. Beginning with her feature debut in 2011—Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel about the famed French-American fashion editor (also her own grandmother-in-law)—and on through other titles about more mid-century well-to-dos, Vreeland has carved a niche out of documentary portraits that tend to coast on the infamy of the rich and famous. I have enjoyed some more than others (2015’s Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict).
Her latest is Truman & Tennessee: An Intimate Conversation, which finds Vreeland more or less still pre-occupied with high society. A slick twist to the structural formula casts Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto as unseen mouthpieces for the words of Truman Capote and Tennessee Williams...

Amazon Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has cast director, actor, and author John Waters in a guest-starring role, for the fourth season of the hit show. The pencil-thin mustachioed man is a legend in his own right, having written and directed films like Cry-Baby, Hairspray, Cecil B. Demented, Pink Flamingos, Serial Mom, Pecker, and more. The 78th annual Golden Globe Awards has concluded and is finally in the history books. The ceremony, which had all of the honorees accepting via video conferencing, got off to a rocky start with the audio issues that Daniel Kaluuya experienced when he won Best Film Supporting Actor. But as the evening went on, we managed to get some great speeches. Some served as a galvanizing call to action like this year’s recipient of the DeMille Award, Jane Fonda. Others were incredibly moving such as Simone Ledward Boseman accepting Best Film Drama Actor on behalf of her late husband, Chadwick Boseman. Then there were those that were just sweet and nice to watch like Best TV Drama Actor winner, Josh O’Connor.
Below, we’ve listed our picks for the night’s best speeches. But, we also want to know which one you liked the best? Vote in our Golden...

At 98 years young, director and showrunner Norman Lear took home the Carol Burnett Award at Sunday night’s Golden Globes.
A group of friends, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Marisa Tomei, and Wanda Sykes introduced the tribute by celebrating Lear’s talent. Tomei called him “our north star.” Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler discussed how Lear wasn’t afraid of discussing controversial topics and showing life as it is. A clip package rolled, showing clips from “All in the Family,” “Good Times,” “Maude,” and “Sanford and Son.” Lear, filmed in a separate location, thanked everyone and was “blessed” to accept an award in honor of Carol Burnett. He went on to thank his various collaborators and his wife of 30 years.

After a shocking Emmy snub a few months ago, Bob Odenkirk is back at the Golden Globes. The “Better Call Saul” actor just picked up his fourth nomination in the Best TV Drama Actor category. After last year’s shocking Emmy omission, it seemed like the writing was on the wall for an exclusion at the Globes too. But viewers of the show know to never count out wily Jimmy McGill, who slipped back into the race. And no one was happier with the inclusion than his co-star Rhea Seehorn who tweeted, “Am I yelling? I’m just so proud of my pal!!!!” Despite success with nominations, though, Odenkirk has never won the award. Could this year be the time he finally prevails?

Well over a decade and a half into Ghost Adventures, you’d think Zak Bagans and crew would be running out of terrifying places to keep us up at night with, but they’ve served up one of their best specials just a couple of days into the new year with Ghost Adventures: Cecil Hotel. The two-hour special, one of the exclusive launch day offerings from Discovery+, sees the team putting themselves in the literal hellmouth of the infamous Los Angeles Cecil Hotel.
With almost 100 years of devilish history to the Cecil’s name, it’s no wonder there’s an entire season of American Horror Story based on it. Sarah Paulson’s AHS: Hotel character Bille Dean Howard has a line where she says that the show’s Cecil-inspired Hotel Cortez “is like being in a rock concert of the dead.” Based on how this special unfolds, it...

Sorry, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. While you all tried your best to inhabit Hollywood’s most iconic secret agent, none of you could upstage the masculine allure and suave cool of the first man to take on the role of James Bond.
While Sean Connery, who is dead at age 90 on Saturday, went on to do a wide range of notable films after headlining seven 007 adventures starting with 1962’s “Dr. No” and and ending with 1983’s “Never Say Never Again.” From the first time he said, “The name’s Bond … James Bond,” the charismatic Scotsman would own the role.

Craig, who is about to leave the franchise once the pandemic-delayed “No Time to Die” is eventually released, shared his thoughts in a statement about his predecessor, saying “Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and much more.

Well, Ricky Gervais didn't disappoint, did he? Parts of his 2020 Golden Globes monologue were unintelligible due to the sound removal required for the pops of profanity, but the comedian, returning as host for the fifth time, left no taboo stone unturned, from #MeToo and Jeffrey Epstein to race relations and Judi Dench's enjoyment of lifting her leg and licking her own... um... It was a Cats joke. Anyway... almost everything that came out of Gervais' mouth had jaws dropping all over the room (poor Cecil B. DeMille Award honoree Tom Hanks didn't know what to do with his face!), so we'll write his zero-f--ks humor off as a given and move on to the...

From poorly timed bathroom breaks to offensive jokes, TheWrap rounds up the most memorable moments from Hollywood’s booziest awards show
In 1980, Bette Midler tickled the audience with a “Golden Globes” pun while accepting the award for “The Rose.”
Cher was at a literal loss for words while accepting a Golden Globe for her role in “Silkwood” in 1984. “Just look at my dress until I can think of something,” the actress said.
When Christine Lahti won for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 1998, the “Chicago Hope” star was late to accept her award because she was in the ladies’ room, forcing Robin Williams to vamp on stage.
Ving Rhames won Best Actor in a TV Miniseries for his role in HBO’s “Don King: Only in America” in 1998, but when it came time to accept the award on stage, the actor decided it to pass it on to fellow nominee Jack Lemmon instead.

Lots of questions this week as Christmas Day has come and gone and we are just six days away from Oscar ballots going live. Are there upsets looming in a year that has become wildly unpredictable as to which way the Oscar winds may be blowing? We will have a much better idea by the point that the two-week holiday break is officially over. In that time the Palm Springs International Film Festival will have handed out its ginormous trophies, AFI will have had its awards luncheon, and the Golden Globes will be history. Just one day after everyone is officially back at their desks (if they take the whole New Years weekend) those Oscar ballots will be due on January 7th, and it is still a mystery just how many members will actually have caught up on all the...

Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress -- at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite. In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments. Cecil Tweetable Logline: A family comedy set in 1996 about a boy who can't pronounce his name due to a lisp. He needs a new one. The choice... Michael Jordan! Elevator Pitch: The comedy is set in the 90s and is about a boy who has a speech impediment that bars him from being able to correctly pronounce his own name. After being bullied, he decides the only way to save himself from social travesty is to change his name to Michael Jordan. With a strong anti-bully theme, children should walk away from this film with the idea that it is not only okay to be different, but being unique is better!
