Guardians of the Galaxy has arrived but the review scores and box office projections are dropping. Did James Gunn go too far in depicting harmful scenes against Rocket's cute little animal friends? Meanwhile, even a hobbled Marvel MCU is still outshining Star Wars on May the Fourth. It's an odd situation for two down-and-out studios trying to get back on the right track but seeming to have no idea how to do so. Nielsen numbers are on our radar and Chris Gore stops by to talk about his new documentary.

The Walt Disney Company suffered a bruising second quarter update with bad news projected again for the next quarter. The company is taking its lumps on all fronts, but especially in Florida where the issue could rise to a trillion dollar problem. Hot off the presses. The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is closing and a major Imagineering expansion is over. It's a massive insult to Kathleen Kennedy -- we'll explain why. A number of converging issues managed to bring The Walt Disney Company down off its multi-generational position as the undisputed leader in family entertainment. Today, we'll explain those converging issues, many of which you have probably never realized were major parts of the process. We'll likewise explain why relief is not in sight... even if ESPN spins off into becoming a streaming service first, channel second. While Disney is dropping, Johnny Depp is rising. He hates Hollywood and he has no problem saying so in Cannes. He's even putting new films like Indiana Jones 5 in his shadow.

Comcast has unleashed a gauntlet on The Walt Disney Company as the two companies look to go into arbitration in 2024. Disney, in its most recent earnings call, seemed to be quite positive on their ability to seal a deal on Hulu. Now, we're finding out from sources such as The Wall Street Journal that things are far different behind the scenes. Instead, Comcast is wanting $70 billion for Hulu -- and we've been reporting that Disney had a payment of around $10 billion. With the current situation that we see in terms of Disney stock price, lower quarter projections, and other drops among key segments, can the company actually come up with even half that amount in a safe way?

The media is turning against The Little Mermaid as even stories about how the film retcons Caribbean history are now trending online. That's no good for the prior narrative which is in shambles with Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse hitting theaters. Pro and Steven have seen the film -- now they're ready to let you know what to expect. Plus, we take a look at Activision Blizzard. The company has been lying to customers for many months, and now that they're caught, they're using social activism as a shield. Finally, wouldn't you know it, just in time for June, Disney is recategorizing Lightyear in a way that confirms what the most ardent critics claimed all along.

The world is filled with rumors and one, in particular, has taken off like a rocket. Is Disney actually selling Star Wars? We dive into the rumor as well as talk about things that aren't rumors or in question. Namely, just prior to the show, we received information that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's box office projections have cratered to levels that seem impossible. They're impossibly bad. And we're also tracking information that the Zelda movie and Nintendo Cinematic Universe efforts have come to a halt due to the Writer's Strike. Plus, Nielsen numbers actually matter this week. We'll talk about it all.

It almost always seems to go down that way after all... Featuring a Fantastic Panel of Experts.

The Walt Disney Company finds itself in a new space. Major stumbles at the box office and downward park attendance has pushed the company into levels of scrutiny it has not seen in far more than a decade. The entire industry seems on edge at Mouse House that leads in both box office revenues and box office failures. As it falters, we all must ask ourselves, is the Kathleen Kennedy era of deconstructed heroes coming to an end?

Oh... and we've got a big scoop on Bob Iger coming your way as well.
Wed, Aug 2, 2023
The Walt Disney Company has a real fire on its hands inside the Haunted Mansion. Director Justin Simien is in full attack mode as the company releases him from his duties with the likely-doomed Disney+ series, Lando. Now that goes directly into the hands of Donald Glover. Meanwhile, all of us are beginning to wonder just how much the internet and our entertainment choices are being manipulated... a dystopian report says The White House has pushed Facebook / Meta to comply with picking winners and losers for website visibility. But... wasn't he always supposed to be in hiding on Tatooine?

Ahsoka is struggling to find reasons for viewers. It's not terrible, it's not awful, but it certainly is "meh". And that means the Disney woes for the day are not likely to end any time soon. Without Disney Plus subscriptions increasing in North America, the company will have a harder time ending their spiral than some of the other entertainment companies out there.
Wed, Sep 6, 2023
An article out of CNBC has decimated the reputation of The Walt Disney Company, its leadership, and its CEO, Bob Iger. The stories paint everyone involved in a very negative light. It's hard to see how this will not create a revolt amongst those who have influence with TWDC. Meanwhile, as Disney circles the shower drain, movies like Sound of Freedom continue to explode in success around the world. Perhaps we're witnessing a cultural revolution?
