''Great'' Non Superman Episode: Where are you Superman?
panagiotis199310 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Live Reaction / Review for Superman and Lois Season 3 Episode 11 ''Complications'' (S3. E11): I hope this episode is good. Episode Ten was good and I gave it a rating of 7.5/10 so let's see. I hope this one has more Superman and less the side characters (...nope). 15 minutes in and not much is happening. We have Lois getting ready for a life-saving operation. But the interesting part has to be Peia's powers that she seems not able to control. Also I like that now Jordan has a new power: x-ray vision.

It's sad there this season doesn't really have any huge fight scenes with Clark. Are they saving it for the last episode or something? Sounds like a very limited budget to me. I love it when it's John against Mannheim, these scenes are always good and intense. I kind of feel bad for Mannheim and Matteo. What happened, did Peia exploded or something? Oh boy she is dead, that hit me right in the feels. And the episode ends with Lois recovering and Bizarro Superman screaming with rage. Overall a great episode but not much Superman in it...again! My rating is 7.5/10.

Bizzaro's cure is set up
sophiejensen-1306313 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A pun I guess. Because it is set up very well and thoughtfully, but it is also set up to fail. And if you're paying attention you can actually see why. Superman's blood is restorative. In season 3 of Smallville, Clark learns that his blood can cure severe liver disease and even cancer. Bruno stole a little bit of Superman's blood to start his cure and it seemed to work. But Bizzaro's world isn't just a world with a red sun. It is an inverted world. Even the physical laws are opposite. He grows weak from XK, uses Green K like a drug. He's weakened by the Earth's yellow sun because he was raised under square Earth's red sun. Most of the characters other than Superman himself who learned about this are either dead like Anderson or living on Square Earth like Tal-Rho. But you can actually see, and more importantly there actually is an established reason that makes sense in context for why the miracle cure doesn't work. And I don' think that happens too often.

Fantastic emotional episode in an incredibly emotional season

Warning: Spoilers
Yes there's been less action this year but it's been a top notch season with superb acting and some suspenseful heartfelt drama. The effects are as always stellar. Music has been outstanding too. It helps yo have an immensely likable cast. I'm really pulling for this to be renewed and considering that the CW has cancelled a plethora of shows the chances are good. That scene where Superman soars into the atmosphere with Peia was well done. As was the one where he slowly brings her back to her family. Stellar episode and I'm guessing the final two will set things up for next season if it does get renewed. Easily the best superhero show after The Boys.

So many misses in areas that could easily be better

LIVE REVIEW:

This episode seems like another teenager dominated episode. And the adult interaction are at the level of teen relationships.

I applaud the shows attempt to cover cancer. Tv should offer unique views and offer possible salves to life's tribulations. The prop bowl is that while they didn't do anything wrong, they displayed it in such a way that nothing was offered as a help aid other than covering the topic. And covering it with such lengthy approach that the show itself felt boring. But this is the risk you make when writers play doctors. I can't count how many shows I have seen that their info in type 1 diabetes is so wrong that if viewers memorized the content and acted "to save" someone...they would in fact kill the person.

The firefighter dad gets teenage jealous over his gf reporter hiding Superman's secret. Seems like a wasted moment for all characters involved. Too often the theme in Thai show is negative emotional responses to every situation to everyone the person is supposed to love.

The Kent boy and lang girl have their every episode love swooning spat. This feels like it has lasted so long...at feels like it's played in real time.

Then we get the teenager drama of "my boyfriend is just a misunderstood criminal and I still love him"

A lot more cancer coverage in the episode that feels played out in real time. While some of the acting may be very accurate to the situation, it is painful to watch. Unsure why they don't edit like most shows where powerful emotion, perspectives and some best case ways to deal with it are offered.

A very very very long meltdown of the evil lady with cancer doing sonic earpiercing. Just had to mute the show for the 10-15 min because no meaningful script was offered. Just ear wrenching evil superpowers at full volume.

Then like normal fashion for this show:

1. Characters act like complete idiots and child tantrums in the first act 2. Characters don't really have a second act 3. Characters in the 3rd act suddenly are sage wisdom gurus to wrap up and solve issues. Only to follow the same exact recipe next episode. Which is why this show fails. It's flimsy written character growth if you could even call it that.

Mannheim suddenly is a repentant criminal to save his son from jail time.

Post surgery wrap up with Lois and Clark. Again, could have been meaningful scripting, but fairly placid and trite conversations.

Then we get season 2 alternate universe Superman start a banshee yell for way too long. I guess this shows that this show has run out of ideas.
