This episode is perfection. The animation, the backgrounds, the voice acting, the music and most importantly the writing in this episode is magnificent. It feels like the whole season has been building up to this moment. The clash of ideals is one of vinland sagas most common ways of storytelling but i think this is the perfect example. Theres not much to say honestly if youve seen this episode you know exactly what im talking about, which is why i dont think its necessary to explain why i like this episode so much. Usually extremely high rated episodes have some insane action sequence or twist or both but this episode manages to have its highlight simply be people talking about the way they think and the way their ideals clash with each other. The episode sounds rather simple but it manages to be extremely interesting and entertaining, that is writing. I dont think ive ever been as invested in a fictional conversation in my life.

One of Anime's best Speeches
wenimohamed5 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"who negotiates for peace by beating a man? I've only just met you today.. we dont know each other, or bear each other any grudge. Why should we have to beat one another? It's foolishness. Theres absolute no reason for so many grown men to get together and shed blood. We just met today, you are not my enemies.

I HAVE NO ENEMIES"

What a speech giving by a man who spent most his life on anger and hatred.

Thorfinn has been trying to remember what his father told him all season and it finally came back when he'd lived up to them and got acknowledged as a True Warrior.

Absolute chills.

Thorfinn story is just about to begin. 10/10 episode!

A True Warrior Has No Enemies
rxckne6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Thorfinn has officially entered the category as one of the best MC's ever in my opinion. The character development he's endured throughout season 2 has been incredible and this episode showed it to a whole other level.

"No One Is My Enemy." Probably one of the most powerful moments of the show, if not the most. The day Thors went to Thorfinn as he was grabbing the blade and intervened telling him that he has no enemy's was a moment that Thorfinn always remembered, even when he was in battle all those years with Askeladd. Those moments were engraved in his brain but he didn't have the mental strength to bring them to fruition because of his hatred towards Askeladd. Last episode Thorfinn admitted he was glad he ended up on the farm as a slave because he slowly was able to realize how valuable life is, and Einar was the cherry on top to that. Einar not only was someone Thorfinn could learn to have a relationship with, but someone he could hold back in moments of rage and see the other side of what he was like all those years. Being on the farm, sitting with those thoughts and meeting Einar helped Thorfinn get to where he is today, and this season showed it was truly best for him.

But now he has a true challenge ahead of him as Canute is pressing him to take his life. Who would've thought at the end of the prologue that this is where the characters would be just 1 season later. Thorfinn gave it his all enduring those punches and gave strong reasons to why Canute should turn away, even acknowledging Canute's dreams from the prologue. But just like Thorfinn, Canute is a changed man since then, and not for the better. You could tell there was a bit of ego in Canute's words as he was preaching to how strong he is as he's been reigning for four years, taking England and Denmark simultaneously after poisoning his own brother and many others along the way.

So how Thorfinn will get out of this situation without violence and jeopardizing the farm seems nearly impossible, so I'm excited yet nervous to see what's to come. Only 2 episodes remaining to this calm turned chaotic 2nd season of Vinland Saga, and judging from how the prologue ended I think we're in for something special in the coming weeks.

I HAVE NO ENEMIES
This is to an extent the biggest part of the story yet. This episode is what the foundations of the rest of the show build upon.

This episode was a vital part of the plot - the interactions between the characters, and the duality of Thorfinn and Canute and their development from the first season was amazing. And while Thorfinn became a slave, we see how free he truly is in this episode.

Adaptation from the manga can be very difficult to achieve. The panel I'm covering is of course the 'I have no enemies panel' - I don't really think the anime stayed perfect to this to be honest, but the music and timing of it were still amazing. It was a bit lacklustre for such an iconic panel. But when that's the only fault I can point out, it just testifies to the general standard of the anime, and the message the panel conveyed still stands.

I do feel there is also a slight case to be made about pacing here - I feel like the 100 punches could've happened last episode, but I'd much rather see it steady than let the episodes snap too short and feel rushed, so it's not a criticism.

As usual, music, art, and in particular the voice acting stood out as brilliant. Einar's actor this season as a whole really deserves credit as one of the performances of the show, and Thorfinn and Canute also really shine in their roles.

Overall the episode was great; I've mentioned the streak of good episodes and this has continued it very well - all that remains now is the end of the arc, and hopefully the start of another.

9.4/10. Not perfect but damn close.

A masterpiece unleashed
aboalhyjaa6 June 2023
What an amazing episode. Easily one of the best in this season and maybe the second best in the whole show. It has a really intense and powerful confrontation between Thorfinn and Canute.

The characters are so well-written, especially Thorfinn, who is fighting his own inner battles and taking responsibility for his past mistakes. The relationship between Thorfinn and Canute is really interesting because they have different ways of thinking and living.

The visuals in this episode are really great, with beautiful drawing and attention to detail in the characters designs. The voice acting and music are also on point and add a lot to the scenes. Its not just Thorfinn who is amazing in this episode, but also Canute and Einar. They all have fantastic moments. And the background music is just peak!

Peakland saga
wenbruining5 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When non manga readers started watching Vinland Saga season 2 they probably thought it was going to be Farmland Saga. But this quickly changed. The biggest turning point was in episode 9. It suprised me that it was adapted to perfection. Now we are at episode 22 and the adaption doesn't disappoint. In the whole season there have been four 10/10 episodes including this one. The source material for this episode is probably the most known part of Vinland Saga. Taking the 100 punches was not only for the purpose of speaking to Canute. It is also a significant step for Thorfinn in becoming a true warrior. I think the point the author is trying to make is very clear. I look forward to what Thorfinn is going to achieve without using violence. But since I am reading the manga I know the next episode is going to be another 10/10.

Thorfinn, the rebel of this world and one of the greatest characters EVER!!
and_mikkelsen6 June 2023
My god.. this episode left me in a state of complrte awe! The power and determination of the characters was mesmerizing!

The development of Thorfinns character in this seasom has been an absolute treat! Some of the best character work i have seen in any media! This episode felt like the culmination of everything he has been through and his ideals! Thorfinn is the rebel of this world, as he despises violence, war, slavery and the endless cycle of murder and revenge! All that culminates here as he propels himself into legendary status!

I also enjoyed Canute's development! He is a symbol of what power does to you and how it corrupts your soul, doing the wrong things for the reasons you think is right!

Amazing direction and animation as well! Some truely iconic shots!

This was the episode when Thorfinn just become one of the best protagonist!
TomiMaster145 June 2023
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 22: "The King of Rebellion" - I just witnessed Cinema..., and witnessed Peak! Can't ask for anything more than this.

What an incredible episode, and maybe this was also one of the best episodes in the entire series, no question, maybe the best in this season and at this point there was so many fantastic episodes, so just wow...

The confrontation between Thorfinn and Canute is finally here, and oh man.., it was one of the best moments in the series by far! Canute has changed a lot as well just like Thorfinn. Loved seeing Einar speaking his mind in front of Canute and not being scared a bit.

A lot of really nice shots of Thorfinn and Canute this episode, they went all in the character design details. And once again the voice acting, the music was on point!

What a freaking GOAT Thorfinn..., ,,I have no enemies'' Goosebumps at max level!! What a powerful moment man. I am still shaking after what I witnessed!

And the most unbelievable thing is that no just Thorfinn was amazing in this episode, Canute and Einar was also so fantastic!

For me, this was the highlight of the season, but the finale is still to come, but this season, this story, this anime is something else...

Best episode of the show 10/10

Warning: Spoilers
Thorfinns Father would be proud to see his son taking on his ideals. He really has had some of the best character development ever. Anyone can change. Thorfinn is a perfect example that your past doesn't define you.

Thorfinn could have fought his way to see king Canute. He wouldn't have gotten far. By taking the 100 punches he was able to gain the respect of Canutes army and his right hand man. Proving that violence is not the quickest answer ever time. I haven't read the manga so i'm curious to see how this plays out and if thorfinn can save the farm. Hearing him say the iconic I have no enemy's was amazing the animation was beautiful as well. Overall an amazing episode of anime.

This episode broke me...
adhambarakat-846295 June 2023
I've been waiting for this episode to be published since reading it, and that was 4 years ago. Mappa did a great job adapting this MASTERPIECE of a chapter. Thorfinn is indeed one of the best written characters of all time, if not the best.

He is just a beautifully written character. A man fighting against his demons, taking responsibility of all the mistakes that he has done in the past. An EMPTY man. Let's not forget the amazing dynamic that the anime holds between Thorfinn and Canute making them great rivals with different mindsets and way of living. At the end, ladies and gentlemen, THIS is Thorfinn Karlsefni, the best character of all fiction!

I Have No Enemies!
ianmcclure-518826 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Another fantastic episode of Vinland Saga which included one of the most iconic lines of dialogue in not only Vinland Saga as a whole, but also in anime/manga in general. I can't tell you how long I have waited for this amazingly powerful and impactful moment to get adapted. This moment and pretty much the entire episode of Oath (S2, Ep 9) were easily my most anticipated moments of this entire arc and I must say... Mappa absolutely delivered on all fronts. Voice acting, animation, music, and sound design. They absolutely knocked it out of the park. Just like they have for this entire season. Literally every big episode they nailed and went above and beyond and I really couldn't have asked for a better adaptation of one of my favorite Manga series.

Now brushing aside the "I have no enemies" Scene. This episode was absolutely incredible from beginning to end. From the amazing opening scene of Thorfinn finishing off his 100 punch bet. To the incredibly powerful "I have no enemies" Speech. To the much anticipated reunion between Thorfinn and Canute which was 4 years in the making (literally). This episode just an absolute treat to watch and another flawless adaptation of an amazing moment/moments.

I don't have much else to say.. other than this... "I just met all of you today. We don't know anything about each other. We have no reason to hate each other. So why do we have to hit each other? It's stupid. It's just Canute and Ketil who are feuding with each other. The two leaders could settle this over a game of hnefatafl. There's no need to gather all these men and shed all this blood.. We just met today. You are not my enemies... I don't have any enemies."

  • Thorfinn Karlsefni

Score: 10/10.

SPOLIERS !!

This episode just put out what EVERYONE has been waiting for and it was definitely worth it. The art work and animation on this it's probably the best in the show so far other then episode 9 of s2 , this episodes shows how powerful canute really is and what he is capable of doing and his development as a character is one of the best i've ever seen.

Can't wait for the new episode to come out sense it left on a pretty big cliffhanger , i haven't read the manga and i really wanna read it but idk how manga works so if anyone can help me with that i'll really appreciate it

I also forgot to mention but the storytelling of this story is incredibly interesting, new topics every now and then and it really puts you on the edge of your seat.

Perfection
DJ2_Freeman6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Amazing episode honestly. Compared to the last couple episodes where it focuses on multiple people and what they are doing this whole episode was focused on one thing so I won't have to explain much. This is easily one of the best episodes of the series in my opinion. A lot of storytelling comes full circle and there was a lot of great dialogue here.

It starts off with Thorfinn taking his punches and around twenty to thirty in snake and olmar find the fight circle and investigate leading to them trying to stop it causing thorfinn to get distracted from softening the blows and gets knocked down. Einar explains to them that he's doing this for the farm and Shake says it's useless to try and talk them out of this war, but thorfinn doesn't budge and calls both sides out for resorting to violence instead of negotiating or talking first and goes back to taking his punches. Before all the Vikings were laughing at thorfinn and after time passes they all watch on in silence and olmar cries over thorfinns will to fight for the farm. This was honestly a powerful scene. It was all respect at that point, after surviving the hundred punches he and Einar finally get permission to go and meet Canute

But before thengen asks why he didn't fight back and thorfinn states that there isn't any reason to fight since they all just met that day and they have no reason to hate each other and kill each other because this is ketil and Canutes war. He looks back on his fathers morals (I'm guessing because it was shown for only a second) and says the famous line

I have no enimes

Thengen brings thorfinn and Einar to Canute.

Canute thinks thorfinn must hate him after making him a slave and killing askeladd, But thorfinn forgives him and even apologizes for giving him his scar.

Thorfinn asks canute to end the war and leave ketils farm, but Canute says no and tries to justify the war because of the planned death of his men by the hands of olmar and thorgils to start the war. Thorfinn tries to argue that he's proven his point but Canute doesn't budge on this. Einar calls out his morals and reasoning and canute explains his reason for killing innocent people, it's to save the Vikings too and defy god by creating a paradise. After this there is lots of fantastic dialogue between Canute thorfinn and einar.

Canute is similar to how thorfinn was back then and it's almost like looking into reflection of his past self for thorfinn. I'll stop here because what are you still doing here reading this? Go watch it!

Overall this episode was emotional and the storytelling is at its best! A lot has come around full circle and I really like everyone's character growth over this last season. I truly think this might be the best anime this year in terms of storytelling and emotion so far.

This season does not dissapoint
pain_cloud25 September 2023
The best episode of this amazing season! They've done a great job with the direction and combination of visuals and soundtrack. That famous scene "I have no enemies" gave me goosebumps - it's noticeable that the entire team, including the voice actor, artists and composer, put all their effort into delivering just this one line in a way that you'll never forget. Ever since the second episode of the first season, when Thors first said these words to little Thorfinn, we understood that the whole story would lead precisely to the moment when the protagonist would remember his father's most valuable lesson, and this scene did not disappoint at all in terms of conveying the importance of these words.

The confrontation between Thorfinn and Canute was also very atmospheric and tense. The colorists managed to properly convey the ominous atmosphere that surrounds Canute and his army, while they stand almost motionless under the setting sun.

P. S. Did you know that the scene with Canute and the sea is based on the old legend about King Canute the Great, the real-history prototype of this character? According to legend, the king was tired of the flattery and fawning of his courtiers, and when one of them said that the king could demand obedience from the sea, Canute demonstrated the impossibility of this act, showing that not everything is in the power of kings. There are many illustrations of this legend, some of them are several centuries old.

The true warrior.
DoctorDragon4 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Thorfinn's character development in this season has been extraordinay. I hated him in season 1, he was full of rage, anger, and I couldn't stand his violent behaviour.

But in last 22 episodes everything changed! There really was a long prologue leading to this incredible season up to this episode.

He is a true warrior now. Fighting violence and war itself.

His father would be so proud.

Canute on the other hand became the worst picture of himself. Relentless on his choice to get more power in order to beat even the most sacred force in the universe.

Between the two sides stands a choice, violence to stop violence, or let violence unfold to avoid persecuting evil.

Wow, that was something! This episode has done an amazing job with the animation, direction and soundtrack. The famous scene "I have no enemies" gave me goosebumps - it is obvious that the whole team, including the voice actor, artists and composer, have put their best into the proper strong delivery of this crucial line. Ever since the second series, when Thors first said these words to little Thorfinn, we understood that the whole story would lead exactly to the moment, when the protagonist remembers the main lesson of his father, and this scene did not let us down at all in terms of conveying the importance of these words.

The confrontation between Thorfinn and Canute also turned out to be very atmospheric and tense. The colorists did a great job with conveying the ominous atmosphere that surrounds Canute and his army, while they stand almost motionless under the setting sun.
