The Real Story is an interesting series that takes a look at popular Hollywood movies and then discusses the real events that led to them.
THE EXORCIST became one of the best selling novels of all-time and a massive hit at the box office once the film was released to a public that wasn't aware of the terror that they were walking into. This episode of The Real Story talks about the 1949 case, which became famous after the movie was released as it was the main influence on the author and the eventual film. We hear from people who knew the priest and the child involved in the case and we learn about specific details that we would later see in the film. The documentary also goes into details about the Roman Catholic belief in exorcisms and how scientists believe it's more mental than religious. Overall this is a pretty good episode that does a nice job at telling the true story behind the film. Fans of the movie should enjoy this.
