Familiar plot but African
codyerb10 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie itself is pretty decent, but the fact that it has been told 100 different ways before but didn't do anything different is disappointing. It wasn't as shocking as Machine Gun Preacher to the violence, and atrocities in some African villages. Instead it shows almost in a repetitive manner domestic abuse. The movie almost could be considered deep or emotional but it just plays on too slowly, and loses a lot of dramatic effect. Ultimately decent movie- the story architecture is basically American History X but instead of being a racist he's a wife beater. Instead of going to jail he joins the army. He comes back reformed to find his son following in his footsteps Instead of his little brother. Then when said significant other repents and wants to go back to being good - they're killed for their earlier actions. Leaving OG abuser finding he changed too little too late.

Best depiction of Cameroon village life with a psychological theme
binujamesmathew11 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie captures the full essence of a village life in Cameroon. The theme shows the psychological impact of childhood experience that affect's the protagonist's life. The movie's depiction of extreme domestic violence is seen partly through the eyes and facial expressions of the child who witnesses how his mother was tortured by his abusive father, who is addicted to drugs, in the first part. The intensity of action and the transformation of the protagonist after his military training is commendable. The dark scenes undoubtled haunts the minds of audience for a long time. A film worth watching for its realistic situation, effect of experiences and how ultimately the protagonist and his son undergoes the natural punishment of their deeds. A sure recommendation for awards.
