Picks up
eoinageary3 September 2023
So this episode is good, a little slow to kind of get going but it seriously picks up in the last 10 minutes of what's happening, the finale I'm guessing will go all out so I understand the slow start to this one.

The entire gang get an invitation to go to a fancy house by a famous old vampire lady ( I forget the name ) and they ignore the guides art show to go and see it, they seem to come across different challenges or objectives and go missing one by one.

Some funny scene's definitely, maybe an unpopular opinion but I'm not a fan of the guide being around so much I prefer the main 5, still a good one and looking forward to the finale !!!!

other than Guillermo's plotline, this show is losing it

Warning: Spoilers
Man what's happened with this show, this season started out so strong. The idea of meeting some ancient vampire at her spooky mansion was a fun idea, as was the Ten Little Indians Agatha Christie setup, but then they proceeded to do nothing interesting with either idea.

The attempts at humor fell flat and there was a lot of padding. What was that stuff with Lazlo fencing anyway (and by the way, how did The Guide arrange that? Oh right I'm not supposed to think about stuff like that.)

Finally Nandor finds out the truth about Guillermo and the plotline gets moving. That bumps it up from a 5 to a 7 right there. If it weren't for Guillermo, this show would be a series of failed comic vignettes.

Finally!

Warning: Spoilers
After a couple of seasons with the Guide being ignored by the gang, and a whole season of secrecy from Guillermo being a vampire, they simultaneously burst out and we finally get a start to the conclusion. We finally get to the point.

I gotta say, although this episode didn't really have many laughs for maybe the first half, Matt Berry made it up again with his legendary deliveries. Other than his deliveries, the only funny part was the college kids scenes because it was so out of nowhere and wild. Matt Berry is really carrying this show on his back. They could dedicate a whole season only to him as the protagonist with the most screen time and I would give every episode a 10/10. I wish they gave him more cuss words to utter because his delivery of those, and even the most normal and ordinary words is the funniest thing ever. I wish they gave him more lines in each episode.

Anyway, while I don't think this episode is the funniest or the most well-structured plot-wise, the ending made up for it and it gets pretty funny as it goes. I have some problems with it, but I really liked this episode, so I'm giving it an 8/10 which it deserves in my opinion, and also for finally addressing the Goëjlrm in the room and dealing with the whole Guide situation.

After a couple of seasons, and especially this season of feeling like The Guide is just there just to be there and they don't know what to do with her and being repetitive with the gang keep ignoring her, they finally wrap up her "storyline?", kinda.

First of all, I thought it was really creative that they went to a haunted mansion and did an episode in this style. But at the same time, I feel like they didn't do much with it?

Like the fencing scene is pretty funny and impressive and cool, and the naked humans running away is also funny and probably the funniest outside of Laszlo scenes. But the other parts with Nadja and Colin? Not much. I don't think I need to say why I think Nadja's segment of getting haunted and trapped is just meh. And obviously, Colin growing a Poirot mustache and soul patch, and acting like a French aristocrat is pretty. But him getting "haunted" is not much. I guess you could argue that the intention wasn't to have every member get haunted necessarily, but I was kinda of expecting that and I'm a little disappointed that they didn't do more with the concept.

Like with Laszlo and Nandor's part, they were being really creative and the fencing choreography was pretty good and the scene was well-shot. But Nadja's scene is just the least creative thing they could've done and they could've done way more with Colin's.

Now what I like about the storytelling here, is that they actually found a really good way to finally make Guillermo admit to Nandor about having turned to a vampire by Derek. It's a neat way to have Nandor want to kill him, but because he's trapped in The Guide's cage, he can't do anything about it, yet. So I think it's a pretty good way of blending these two plots together and having somewhat of a conclusion to both of them.

They also wrap up the whole hex situation and why Guillermo is half-vampire. I also think they didn't do much about the hex thing and I already forgot about it before this episode. They didn't do much interesting things with it and didn't really focus on it this season.

I also feel like they could've done more with the conclusion to The Guide storyline, but I'm glad that they actually addressed it and did something with it finally.

Overall, I thought it was funny at times and finally addressed something that felt like an afterthought (oh, how ironic and meta) and gave closure to it. It also did a good job of blending it with Guillermo's storyline of this season and the inevitable reveal was done in a really nice way.

Not the funniest episode and not the most well-structured plot. But definitely, a worthwhile episode where major plotlines are finally addressed and it wasn't just another one of those episodes of this season that really didn't connect to the big picture.

Episode 509

Warning: Spoilers
It was a decent parody of And Then There Were None for awhile, but it would have been better if they did not make it so clear that The Guide was behind it and left a little bit of mystery in things.

This was probably funnier than most of the episodes the season, but something about the show just continues to miss the mark. I don't quite know what it is, but it just is not the same kind of show.

Maybe Guillermo feuding with Nandor could be something, but I get the feeling they will resolve that in the season finale and by the time next season rolls around there will be nothing to that dynamic.
