Dramatic and funny.
Sleepin_Dragon17 March 2023
Jackson Brodie is asked by a tee age boy to learn what happened to his mother, who was seemingly killed by a notorious killer, and he's also asked to look for Samira, who's parents want her brought home.

I loved the contrast of the two cases that Brodie is investigating, both are intriguing, both are pretty sad, but definitely engaging. Brodie's life is quite literally turned upside down by the women in his life.

I really did like the touches of humour, that scene where Brodie is surrounded by all of the women in his life, that was really funny. I loved Natasha Little's scenes, she was so funny.

The acting is first rate, it's a killer performance from Jason Isaacs, equally brilliant from Amanda Abbington, that dinner scene was remarkable, if truly sad, the ultimate sacrifice?

Solid end to the show, it's just such a pity that it had to end here, there was definitely a whole lot more they could have done.

8/10.

Deserved a Better Ending

Warning: Spoilers
There was a lot to like about the series. The finale did not live up to what came before. I have not read the two books upon which the show is based, so faithfulness to the source material may have played a role. Either way, multiple developments were out of character at best.

The pregnant actress arc stole a lot of time and energy better spent elsewhere. The character was strong in the opening two episodes, but here she was a unwanted distraction. The development of Brodie's relationship with his daughter was stellar, yet she is ignored in favor of the pregnancy arc. What a shame. The daughter in trouble and son needing answers were solid arcs that put Brodie in some tight spots as he worked to find facts and discover the truth. The unhappy daughter and disillusioned wife were in situations that rang true.

The con-woman, Charlotte, was a good twist. Brodie's reaction was inexplicable. Charlotte cons Brodie into believing they had a close relationship, only to empty his bank account and vanish. Brodie shrugs. Really? "She's good at covering her tracks." Really? She cons a PI with a strong connection to the police. Hardly a prime target for the con. Instead of compelling sleuthing and pursuit, the character is never again seen. Instead, we get more of the pregnant actress.

And what to say about Louise and the confounding dinner date? Her marriage has quickly unraveled off screen, for reasons we are left to guess. What seems to be a ham-fisted set up for Louise and Jackson to finally connect, turns out to be a scene in which Jackson acts like cruelly and decidedly out of character. I did not need or expect "happily ever after," but the sour close rang false. Lone wolf. Troubled childhood. Understood. Still, a sour ending to a show that was very good until it wasn't.

Lousy way to end a solid series
lotekguy-110 April 2022
The long-overdue dinner with Louise ended with a BS explanation for why things must go a certain way. The Julia pregnancy arc (or bulge) was soap opera crap at its cheesiest. Plus, the way he dealt with - or didn't deal with - secretary Deborah all added up to a bad final taste in the mouth for a guy who was easy to root for throughout the first eight episodes,. I gave all of those at 6 or 7, with one climbing up to 8. Huge disappointment .

Loved the music in this episode
jkelley-6270621 November 2015
I loved the music but don't know who was singing the songs, there is a at the end of the show, a woman's voice-can anyone tell me who she is? Or how to find out the song tracks from this episode? This is the first time I have watched this show.

I like it a lot and am going to start watching the entire show I would be curious to know others take on this show Does it take place in London not quite sure Any comments about the music is most helpful What else has this actor been in as well?

Also out of curiosity-what kind of car does he drive in the show

Is he married in real life?

Thanks
