Rushed but good
robson-0252310 September 2023
Season 3 was a strange case of completely rushed less episodes and dropped storylines/wrapped up in one scene. But still somehow doing it well?

It was as if they said right, we want to do a much shorter season and wrap it all up. And the directors, cast and production team ran with it and did an absolutely fantastic job.

I'd have loved more. But what we did get, I thought was poignant, brilliantly acted as usual, (the actress who plays jaq is going places for sure) and very well shot. Well done to everyone who worked on top boy from summerhouse to the Netflix continuation.

And message to Netflix if this was your doing stop RUSHING, there are still plenty of people out there who brains aren't mushed from TikTok that only enjoy quick digestible shows!!

Predictable conclusion
danielcereto23 September 2023
I really love Top Boy series. I think performances are great, the first 4 seasons are pretty good and the conclusion even predictable is acceptable and watchable.

Let's focus on the last season, the weakest, by far.

First, performances are not as strong as usual and the only one who still reach a great level is Sully. Dushane and Jaq are just Ok because of the script here. Looks like the writers gave more importance to Sully to become The Top Boy.

Second, the script is the worst by far. It does not add anything new to the story and it is feel rushed as others said. I guessed the ending easily and the impact was not as great as it should be.

Anyway, even the fifth season and last 6 episodes are mostly so, so, the overall conclusion is that Top Boys is one of the best British series of all time. I recommend to anyone who love to watch a crime-drama-drugs-human story, full of soul and great characters. Enjoy!

Solid but not great

Warning: Spoilers
Top boy seems to give us the unexpected, like when Sully killed Jaime the shock factor was there. I kind of knew that Stef wouldn't do it. But I was expecting maybe Erin or maybe even Aaron as a shock killer. Pretty sure it was Jaq as the drugs didn't get taken. If it was the Irish, Isaac or fields then they would have robbed him.

I still really enjoyed the last episode it was tense throughout. I just really don't get why they didn't show us the killer, like what does that achieve? It's like a murder mystery off a soap opera. Dushane went out as I expected he was never escaping or going to prison.

Overall great season, it was rushed yes, but I still really enjoyed it. Solid last episode, but why not show us the killer?

Warning: Spoilers
Was really hyped for this last season, but quite disappointed with it. 6 episodes is no way near enough. So many plot holes and missed explanation.

Aaron suddenly leave Stefan alone in a home for other kids.

Lizzie is just gone with the money, but no further explanation.

Stefan had a great character arc, but I feel like there's a lot missing. Could easily have spent a few more episodes devolving him.

Dushane feels less kinda in important and the investigation from last season is not mentioned at all. The whole cased dropped because of Ruben?

Also Dushane kills Jeffery, but just leaves the place instead of calling any friends for help to clean it up or anything.

His panic attacks is also just kind of irrelevant.

Then there is the Irish guys. I imagined they were tied up to Lizzie or something, but they were gone faster than they came around..

We never actually see Kieron die. Of course he is dead, but show it god dammit. Same goes for Sullys death. Why is it not shown who did it? Centainly were Jaq, but show it?

Solid conclusion
searchanddestroy-121 September 2023
I did not expect better conclusion than this one. Hollywood crap industry would have given us a cheesy ending destined to sissies seeking after violence, action but certainly not darkness and downbeat plot. This tremendous crime drama from UK is also a social picture of today's world, in the Ken Loach mode from time to time. It is not flawless, far from that, but excellent for me, though not at the scale of GOMORRA. I made the mistake to watch it season after season, with several years in between. So I will wait seven years and will watch it again in A ROW this time, over two or three weeks and I am sure I will appreciate it even more. An abrupt ending which also leaves a simple question, who did it? I love that.

Bit of a weak ending and a rushed season

Warning: Spoilers
The summerhouse riot was the perfect way to keep the Dushane and Sully story feeling tense and claustrophobic and the heart to heart they had was emotional.

I have no problem with the cycle repeating itself and there being loose ends that aren't tied up, given the subject matter of the series, but what I do have a problem with are endings for characters feeling either unsatisfactory or unnatural.

Jamie and Jaq are good examples of that. Jamie's death was a shock for sure and the payoff was something that created huge intrigue for this season. Very little came from this story apart from his youngest brothers anger. Aaron's feelings completely ignored.

Shoutout to Jasmine Jobson whose acting throughout the series has been nothing short of sensational. Deserves so much credit. The actions of her character Jaq this season though were beyond ridiculous. I know it's put down to grief and I can understand acting out of character and making mistakes, but I cannot make sense of the lack of thought her character put into handling it or how she got out of the situation unscathed.

Sully got what was coming to him and leaving the death as ambiguous is fair enough given that multiple people had logical reasons to contribute to that ending. As an ending to the entire show though, it's a bit of a whimper, especially given how the previous season had ended and how much the characters went through over the course of 3-5 seasons.

I think one of the biggest issues has to be how short the season was and how they had to breeze through stories, taking away their impact, tension and level of intimidation. It feels like a show that deserved more than it got by the end. A huge shame.

Disappointing Conclusion
john-alexander-8211 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show but there is definitely a drop off in quality this season, not necessarily from the cast but why only 6 episodes in it's final season???

Dushane doesn't really have much to do this season and just takes orders from Sully??? Doesn't make sense.

The irish plot was a complete waste of time, they disposed of them far too easily.

Jaq goes completely against her character who is based on loyalty and respect yet gets away scot free aswell not suffering any consequences???

The season should have at least had 8-10 episodes to cap it all off but really felt rushed to me.

A disappointing ending to a great show.

Rush rush rush

Don't worry about Ruben, or the police's long running case against Dushane

We haven't got time for all that

Lizzie? Whatever... run off init

Aaron - got a job don't worry about it

Irish mafia, 3 eps in and it's gone, barely even gotten to know them as characters and they're dead - keep it moving

No time to faff about

Lauryns just dead

Jaq is just insane now, she's stealing drugs and giving them back

Gotta move really fast yet somehow really slow and somehow not getting anywhere

Let's just get on with it, they're beefing they're dead it's over.

And that's it - and... it's over.

So there is no Top Boy?
RickyB0bby1213 September 2023
A London Game of Thrones type season finale has turned up here. Seems lazy writing although some good performances remain throughout the cast. Barry Keoghan (Johnny) the new Irish contact is a good additional casting but the back story and depth of insight of the relevance of an Irish family removing the Moroccan connect lacked all kinds of creative storytelling. What was their value add there? Just chucked in a new opp for villains sake. A lot of the comparable Narco type seasons we watch now are much more detailed in the backstory of how operations work and the oppositions which crop up.

Kano's acting has been admirable throughout and Dushane's finale is commendable especially the closing relationship which entails by the garages.

Jaq's and Kano's character deserved a better close it would have been more interesting to show her taking the top spot than just stealing the food. At least show her locking off Sully now that she has grew a conscious for the first time.

Two brothers down

Warning: Spoilers
Im pretty shocked . A nice episode where everyone try to survive .

Kieron's fate was pretty predictable to be honest and i wasnt really surprised to see him get trapped by Sully .

Jaq is safe but lost her trust to Sully ( but it dont matter now because he is dead )

The big surprise was Dushane's death and i didnt expected that to be honest. We have that sad talk between him and Sully and it was sad really .

Also Sully's death ! But who killed him ? Steph let it go so who ? Is that the guy who he puts the gun in his mouth when looking for Jaq ? We dont really know .It happened so fast

Im glad Steph didnt do it and move on.

For me it was a nice season despite some illogical choices and some rushed writing sometimes (Jaq's steal food, Dushane and the murder of the guy he killed ) . But overall i liked the season despite some of this things . It was a nice season and it was great to see all these characters evolve and know their final destination .

We Are Not Serious About Our Fans
jamdub-6193410 September 2023
We are the food! We waited one and a half years for them to deliver roughly 5.5 hours of a Top Boy catastrophe. The characters were out of character for the entire 6 episodes. They really should explain this to the fans. Nothing was right here. Dushane was always the barometer, Sully the thermometer, yet they decided to mix everything up. They even let Jaq go mad, a character that only ever demonstrated loyalty. I give it and the season 5 stars just for episode one. They really setup the confrontation between the Irish and Sully so well, that storyline could have worked for an entire season by itself.

Acting, incredible. Story, shameful.

Warning: Spoilers
I was really excited to watch the final season of Top Boy, albeit I had slightly forgotten the story but ultimately knew S2 ended with Jamie being shot and killed by Sully - a fantastic cliffhanger to set up what should've been an epic last season, however it felt short in so many places.

At times when I was watching it I was wondering who some of the people were and what they're involvement in the story was, take The McGees for example, I assumed it was my poor memory to blame when I didn't know who they were, but they were new to the season and for no real reason, they end up being killed in a care home while seeing their dad for his birthday... pointless and poor.

Suddenly Dushane loses £16m - never really find out why or where the money went, the dodgy accountant just up and left... stupid.

The other thing that wound me up was the storyline in the last episode, we get introduced to a new character, a clearly clever and important man responsible for dealing with Dushanes exit to Summerhouse and his new life in Turkey - just as his two bodyguards arrive to take Dushane, it ends up with both of them being killed by Sully and his boy... how!? Why did they start a shootout, why did one of them run across the street to continue the shootout, why did the bodyguard not take cover when Sully was shooting at him? It's all so rushed and a bit pathetic.

Acting however - incredible. Actress who plays Jaq is 10/10, Kane and Ashley also on top form.

Just a shame it was a rushed mess overall - I would've preferred 2 more seasons, with season 3 focusing on the McGees, and then season 4 focusing on Sullys relationship to Dushane, and Steph's character development and his battle with grieving Jamie.

Warning: Spoilers
So many potential plot lines wasted this season. Jamie's death and Stef's progressing involvement with Ri and the others felt like it could be a really strong story. As well as Lithe and Lizzie missing, the death of the Moroccans and the introduction of the Irish. What was the point in the Irish if they are going to have minimal screen time/effect and all die within a few episodes? What happened to Ruben? The Lithe/Lizzie story results in nothing other than Jeremy dying out of a fit of rage and criminal mastermind Dushane being too stupid to properly clean up a murder scene full of his own prints after lashing out. Dushane and Shelley's break up is sort of understandable given the history of Dushane getting aggressive etc, but it comes across like her not being able to get the money is the final straw and her character retreats to the shadows and becomes somewhat irrelevant quickly. The summerhouse riot is a great way to set up a tense final episode, but this season needed at least 4 more before that to allow stories to develop and make sense. The Jaq story line is one of the most bizarre u-turns I've ever seen in a show and completely eradicates all the work done to build up the strength of the character over the last few seasons. Each season of the show ends up spending a lot of time focussing on the tension between Sully and Dushane, and it's easy to guess that one of them is inevitably going to kill the other at some point in the series. But after 5 seasons of building that tension, you would have hoped for a more fulfilling conclusion to that enormous plot point. The sentiment is there in that it happens in Summerhouse and there is a legitimate personal conversation between the two, but the fact that Dris' death scene is significantly more emotional and well produced just doesn't make sense. It's like they set themselves up for failure by smashing that scene out the park. I have no problem with Sully's killer being unknown given his long list of enemies, but it feels it would have more of an impact if the season was a few episodes longer. Overall it's a fantastic show, but season 5 felt like they ran out of time and money and ultimately led to a very disappointing and rushed conclusion that takes away from the credibility of the entire series.
