I never read the books, so i cannot give any judgement as to the adherence to the source material.
For the rest, there is to say that TWoT is a great show. Improving greatly from the first season, which was not to be considered a masterpiece, but still a great show, this gets closer. I have full respect for the deeper sides of cinema, so i'm not willing to throw the label of masterpiece freely, and i'm not sure this one deserves it, especially because it would depend on the source material, which i do not completely know. But, judging simply the aspects of the film until now, it deserve a lot. Surely more than any other recent fantasy i have met. And those with some taste in good cinema and respect for literary themes will agree that this is miles above stuff like The Witcher series.
The photography is great, the actors are too, surprisingly. The themes i am unsure of. But honestly, even if this was just a evil vs. Good kind of thing, it wouldn't deny it a potential value. And i think it does have value. In the seriousness with which it commits to the topics it presents, the real-wordly brutality that is expected by any good fantasy work, and that made Game of Thrones great, and that for me, also means respect for the viewer, that not necessarily is a 14 year old child intending to watch something stupid. It's not polluted by stereotypical interactions, cringy jokes, it just honestly tries to portrait the story as if it was real, really taking place in our world. And I love ir for it.
Maybe it's not a masterpiece, but it's a great work and does what it's supposed to do way better than most other fantasy shows have done lately.
