The 10 survivalists participating in History Channel’s ‘Alone’ season 10
We’ve arrived at History’s Alone season 10’s finale with episode 11, “By Any Means.” Episode 11 begins on day 53, with three survivalists – Wyatt, Mikey, and Alan – remaining in the competition. Winter has arrived in earnest, and food is much more difficult to find. Plus, the temperature has plummeted and it’s impossible to get warm.
One competitor succumbs to the cold and voluntarily taps out on day 55. On day 64, the second-place finisher realizes he’s done everything that he needed to do, including healing old wounds. Alone season 10 ends with the crowning of the winner on day 66. (I’m withholding the name of the winner until the end of this recap just in case anyone accidentally reads this prior to watching the episode.)

From the time Jorja Smith had just one song on SoundCloud to her current status as an R&b darling, the singer has weaved social commentary into her tales of youth, self, and love. At 17, she wrote her first single, 2016’s “Blue Lights,” to recognize the fear of police and proximity to crime that black people experience. On the debut album that followed, “Blue Lights” precedes “Lifeboats (Freestyle),” a rapped-sung hybrid about economic inequality. Last summer, she released “By Any Means” as a contribution to the Black Lives Matter movement,...

Jorja Smith announced a new project, Be Right Back, out May 14th. The singer previewed the eight-track set with “Gone,” an electro-soul single built on a watery piano loop and glitchy drums. In the video edited by Smith and Ivor Alice and shot by Erin Corrian-Alexis, the singer takes a nighttime stroll as she reflects on loss.
“My God, I lost you at the corner / On God, I lost you in the moment,” Smith sings on the track, a soothing and somewhat ambiguous expression of regret. “Why now and not a little later?...

Jorja Smith dolls up while yearning for the full attention of a special someone in the video for her new single “Addicted.” It’s the English singer’s first new music of 2021.
In the video, which Smith co-directed with Savana Leaf and shot via webcam, Smith appears in different outfits in a number of settings — from various rooms to outdoor nighttime shots — as she reflects on an unbalanced relationship.

The 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards took place on Sunday, and this year the event truly had a global feel. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the show was filmed in various locations across the world, including London and Budapest, Hungary, with performances by Sam Smith, Doja Cat, Zara Larsson, and Little Mix, who also hosted the event.
And while there were some seriously epic performances to keep us entertained whilst in lockdown, of course, the entire reason for the concert is the actual award ceremony. Leading the charge with seven nominations was Lady Gaga, followed closely by Dua Lipa with four and Cardi B with three.

North Carolina rapper Rapsody has shared a scathing new song, “12 Problems,” which will appear on the upcoming Roc Nation social justice charity compilation, Reprise, out October 9th.

Jorja Smith reflects on her experiences within the Black Lives Matter movement and her dedication to social justice on her new song “By Any Means,” which is available now. The track is the singer’s first release of 2020 and also the lead single from Roc Nation’s upcoming Reprise project that will benefit social justice organizations.
Cowritten and produced by Ezrah Roberts-Grey, on the empowering “By Any Means,” Smith addresses the history of lies, pain and death that have led to this moment, while embracing the strength found within the movement.

Billy continues to find the pace of The Strain season two tryingly slow. With just two episodes left in the season, when will it speed up?
This review contains spoilers.
2.11 Dead End
Those, like me, who thought that Eichorst got a sufficient back story in season one, were probably largely mystified by Dead End. But even if you find him fascinating, the lack of any pace or plot-relevant events in season two became even more striking this week.
How many seasons is this show intending to last? About a dozen or more, given the snail-like progression at which things unfolded, especially in the first two thirds of the running time.
Flashbacks weren't the only thing to blame however, because the Gus sub-plot went almost nowhere via the scenic route, and significant numbers of main characters weren’t given even given a cameo. There was no Palmer, Quinlan, Zach, Master, Kelly or Justine Faraldo this week.

2.10 The Assassin
With a title like this, you’d think this episode would be exciting, but it manages to evade that branding by getting all the main characters to act like complete idiots.
The lesson of the previous episode was that Ephraim is totally useless with a sniper rifle. If you can’t shoot a stationary target when he’s unaware of you less than 100ft away with a precision weapon, then why would you use it?
Building on that concept, in this story we discover that the same person the same weapon, with a scope this time, positioned further away is still an abysmal shot. Perhaps next week it will be revealed that Ephraim never actually intended to shave his head, but just to trim some errant nose hair and he missed.

Billy continues to find little to praise about The Strain. Here's his review of the show's latest frustrating episode...

2.9 The Battle For Red Hook
And…The Strain grinds on. After the last episode, where Zach learned some valuable life lessons about relatives who have turned, the story trundles down a furrow now so deep that it's rapidly becoming a tunnel.
Yet, for all the very obvious faults, this was probably one of The Strain's better season 2 stories because it resisted the usual annoyance of flitting about between people having mostly irrelevant conversations.
Therefore we got no Palmer, no Quinlan, no flashbacks and no Gus. What we did get was a funky new credit sequence quite possibly designed to remind people that there is a book to buy, if they can’t bother watching all of this interminable show. The new credits are actually so much better...

2.8 Intruders
Some shows can pack lots into their allotted 42 minutes or so, and when I first watched Intruders I got the impression was that plenty of things happened. And then, as I have a tendency to do for a review, I worked through a second time, and realised that confusingly, almost nothing happens at all.
The impression first presented is generally because it keeps scenes short and flips between the various threads rapidly. That makes the presentation seem to have pace, but frankly, most of what went on in each segment was either of no great consequence or very minor plot developments. However, in a few small places there was actually some attempts at story telling. Which given the track record of this show was rather pleasing, and I...

Yet here we are again, and without much debate I feel confident in saying that The Born was the lowest point in what hasn’t been so far a transformational season.
There is so much wrong here I’m almost at a loss as to where to start, so instead I’ll begin with the small nuggets of entertainment shining amongst the motherlode of dross regular watchers of the show were forced to shovel through.

2.6 Identity
Having wandered a narrow path for a few episodes between the extremes being of mildly interesting and utterly mundane, The Strain jumped with both feet in Identity into a mire of awfulness that this season has only previously hinted towards.
There was so much wrong with what went on in these 42 minutes, it’s a real challenge to know where to begin, but let us start with Ephraim, and his mercy mission to Washington.
As I watched these parts, I was almost convinced that I’d accidentally flipped channels, and was watching a totally different show in which Corey Stoll was an even bigger twit than the one he plays in this show. I know that those in Washington are meant to be entirely vacuous and self-serving, but even by those standards,...

Even this far into its second season, The Strain is still struggling to find an identity. Here's Billy's review of Quick And Painless...
This review contains spoilers.
2.5 Quick And Painless
Despite the implied promise, The Strain this week was neither quick nor painless. I put this down mostly to how much of a big thing was made of Ephraim taking his hair off, which was somehow elevated to a major plot point for no plausible good reason. It’s been obvious from the outset that the hair was false, so perversely, it seemed to be more about the personal comfort of the actor than a disguise that any idiot could see through.
By the time they’d removed Ephraim's hair, and he’d put on a suit and a sharp tie that we'd never seen before, I was half expecting him to end up with a barcode tattoo on his neck!

2.4 The Silver Angel
I was shocked to discover that there was something genuinely interesting in The Strain this week, an episode that wasn’t as predictable as I’ve come to expect.
The first five minutes are dedicated to a wonderfully bizarre black and white B-movie homage where a Mexican masked wrestler takes on vampires, and gets a dodgy knee for his troubles.
He’s played by the marvellously gruff Joaquín Cosio, who was in Quantum of Solace and El Narco among many other better things.
Unfortunately, this opening was 200% more compelling that the rest of the show. I can't be alone in wanting to know more about el Angel de Plata (the Silver Angel). By the end, all we’d managed to extract was that he now...

2.3 Fort Defiance
There wasn’t a very high water mark to breach, but Fort Defiance was probably the best episode this season, and better than most of the last. Why? Because it didn’t get bogged down in any flashback subplot with minimal reference to the present, and it kept things moving along rather nicely for a portion of the running time.
However it starts with the staple of B-Movie horror, gross stupidity, when two of the dumbest cops in NY bump into Bolivar dragging his bag of consecrated earth.
Everyone else in the tri-state area seemed clued into the threat, but these two bozos must have spent the last week in a donut shop to get so easily dispatched.

2.2 By Any Means
After a somewhat clumsy start last week, By Any Means delivered a more compelling watch as it avoided trying to tell any sort of connected narrative.
The meat in this sandwich was undoubtedly the subplot that was triggered last week when Ephraim and Nora acquired two infected people to experiment on.
I’m not sure if we’re meant to draw a strange parallel between what they’re doing scientifically and the abhorrent medical work done in Nazi Germany by a character in other sub-story compartment? Perhaps. Whatever the subtext, they’re doing these wrong things for the right reasons, curiously.

As an actor, you never know when you’ll get that call back for one more reprisal. Unless Adina Verson, who played Abraham’s wife, Miriam, via flashback in one episode last season, knew ahead of time she’d be in the script for “By Any Means.” The rest of us probably didn’t see it coming. Nor did we imagine that Abe first met a polio-stricken, wheelchair-bound Eldritch Palmer while teaching college kids in Vienna circa 1965. (Unless, perhaps, you read the books, but who reads books?) Yep, turns out Palmer’s greedy designs on immortality intersected with Setrakian’s (or Professor Setrakian to you) quest to abolish the Master half a century ago. Only Abe made an error in judgment back then that may yet cost him dearly. Though Miriam was suspicious of the younger Palmer’s intentions, her husband nevertheless accepted his money if it meant he could accelerate the hunt for strigoi.

We have new photos from episode 202 that don't give much away, but show progress being made on both fronts. With that being said, I have a hunch that it's not going to be as easy as it looks...

Andrew-Lee Potts has said that the Primeval movie might still happen.
The science fiction drama ran for five series from 2007 to 2011, having been axed and recommissioned after its third run. A spin-off movie was first announced by ITV and Warner Bros in May 2009 but never came to pass.

Gary Oldman is my TV hero. The incredible thing about Gary Oldman is his versatility.
Versatility is the key with acting and that's something I took away from Gary.
It's really hard to not get put in a box when you're acting and get typecast. Even if I play a similar role to one I've played before, I will never play it the same, I'll always try to do something different with it. I've been lucky enough to play many different roles from darker characters to family orientated shows to comedy.
Gary Oldman is the master of that art of transformation.
My favourite Gary Oldman performance? It would probably have to be Drexl Spivey in True Romance. Incredible. He's just cracking in that.
Watch Gary Oldman in True Romance (Warning: Contains strong language)
He can play good guys and bad guys and it looks effortless. He's the number one for me.

Luther star Warren Brown has described his new show as "like The A-Team meets The Equalizer".
Brown will play the lead in BBC One's new drama By Any Means, from writer Tony Jordan (Life On Mars, Hustle).
"I play a character called Jack Quinn, who's in charge of a team and their brief is to catch criminals by any means," Brown told Digital Spy. "It's of the crime genre, but they're not actually police. They go after criminals that the police can't catch, for whatever reason.
"It's a bit of a dysfunctional family - different members of the team have different skills and they're called upon when required.
"I tried to describe it and I said, 'It's like The A-Team meets The Equalizer', and then I thought, 'I would absolutely bloody watch that!''
Brown also explained that By Any Means is lighter fare than his recent work on the BBC's Luther and Good Cop.
