below average watch it for screenpresenxe of anu choudhry
sidharthnpm21 October 2023
I give one star for the idea of the movie which is not direct copy from any movie. 2 stars for anu choudhury and 1 star for the movie.

The basic storyline of the movie is intresting but the scriptwriters spolied it with lazy and slow scripts. Sudhansu sahoo's direction is very average and outdated when audience in odisha are now enjoing movies like daman, mindgame and pushkara its very old kind of diretion, techically also film is very average. Music is good the item song and sidhant - anu song both are good and picturised well but the way the songs come in between it looks like a 90s movie. As far as acting sidhant mohapatra is good in his role but he has done this role atleast 20 times so no novelty in this but he gave a sincere performance. Anu choudhury didnt get a good role but whatever little part she got she is magical in each scene she appears. In the song she looks super stunning and her performance and chemistry with sidhant is amazing. She is one of the best female actor of odisha but its sad to see she is not getting the meaty parts , there are other brilliant actors like prasanjeet mohapatra, jagannath seth and many more also couldnt get scope to showcase their true celiber like sidhant and anu. Choudhury bikas das is such a brilliant actor but why the director made him act so loudly infact his personality doesnt match the character. Another miscast is devasis he is the main hero but i think someone younger should fit tht role 'and he cant act his casting and acting is big let down then the heroine poonam she is queen of cringe performance cant act in a scene also so bad. I dont know why they are in the cast may be due to closeness of the producer and itony is that the producer pritam sahu also came in an important cemeo in last., he may be the main hero in part 2. With some actors, music and bgm technical depatments worked really hard but majority of people like writers directors producers and some major actors had a casual apporach in making of this movie . Thats why the movie is not upto the mark.

A Formulaic Gangster Movie
manas1978200219 November 2023
Katak is famous for many reasons but infamous for a single one. VIOLENCE. Violence related to gang wars being the most common. The Director Sudhanshu Mohan Sahoo in my POV haven't lived in Katak or hasn't done research about the gangsters or the communal violence which happens frequently in Katak.

In this movie it is shown that already a gangster named Tiger Bagderia has established his empire in Katak and Guru (Siddhanta Mahapatra) was a simple guy who accidentally enters into this web of crime. So far it was an average affair. But there is a time leap of at least 12-15 years, and now we are shown that Guru has made himself equally capable to be the new Don of Katak. How he achieved that only the Director and storywriter knows. And by a sudden snap he is now the King of Katak. In between this drama there is the formulaic romance (and of course songs), gangsters being held back (of what they do best) by their spouses or lovers, the cat-mouse game of cop and gangsters, the jealousness of who will be the right hand of the Don and finally the political scenario. It has all been done before, but to recreate the same story with one's own vision is what the Director and storywriter lacks.

Anyone who knows the culture of Katak is aware of the communal violence which always happens there. But in the movie a character shoots another gang member of the minority community and roam freely in the streets of Katak, which is really absurd. The character Abhi looks much older to the actress opposite him. Of all the characters, apart from Siddhant & Anu Choudhury (who, though are matured and experienced actors, didn't get much scope here to show their talent) it's the character 'Chhotu' played by Prasanjeet Mohapatra who really shines. Sadly the scriptwriter showed little interest in developing this character and focused mainly on Abhi & Lagna.

It seems a second part is inevitable. I was there in the cinema hall with this movie's lead characters. After the movie many congratulated them. I just wanted to say "If they are thinking to make a sequel, make it from their own research, what happens in Katak and if possible for God sake NO ROMANCE IN THE SEQUEL and more realistic violence."

My Rating 3/10.
