I've honestly never found a regular show I disliked, there are plenty of episodes that either fell between being boring and annoying. Because regular show has always had enough likability for me to look past things like Inconsistencies or this seasons obsession with action lines. But Cool Cubed had a job and it didn't deliver.
So this Ep starts off in the front of convenience store where Mordecai, Rigby, Pops, and the new temp worker Thomas are playing a game to see who can get he worse brainfreeze, taking a picture of there reactions. Which sounds like a terrible way to spend your day, but whatever. While everyone else seems to be getting brainfreeze's, thomas is the only who can't seem to get one, so in usual fashion, he asks the store for the coldest slushie they have, the big swig, the clerk warning him that its dangerous.But thomas buys it none the less and gets his brain. Except that it puts him into a near catatonic state.
Having no idea what to do, the group asks skips for help but he's at a loss. The only person they can think of too help is doctor henry, voiced by Armin Shimerman, who tells them the only way to unfreeze thomas is for mordecai and rigby to shink down and go inside his head to stop the slushie before it reaches the core of thomas's brain.
I hope you enjoy armin's appearance in the episode because he doesn't show up for the rest of the episode.
After shrinking down, mordecai and Rigby meet thomas's conscious, which looks like an actual goat but with his regular head. They discover that the big chill slushie is almost near the core of the brain and they suit up.
Now right here is where the problems start to set into the episode, the big chill is just different themed version of the giant coffee bean from "Caffeinated coffee tickets" episode, it even has a translator with it like the coffee bean. Then there was scene where they were gearing up to deal with big chill, there was shot where Rigby is shown grabbing a flamethrower, but you never see him use it. Not only could they not think of an original example of brain freeze creature, they tease the audience with a flame thrower and don't deliver.
So Mordecai and Rigby make in time, Mordecai says an action movie catchphrase,stop the big chill, and they make it out in time before exploding out of Thomas's head.
The real shame of this episode is that this one first Thomas centered episodes after his initial episode after the season 4 premier. We could have actually learned about this new character and what he's like. But they do nothing with it, its the same regular day, then problem, then solved it formula. It also one of the shortest episodes, clocking in at only 10 minutes, where they usually have at least 15 minutes for an episode.
I don't know what happened in the making of this, but this episode was nothing special and a real waste.
