spy story that's true
jtellis-7281919 May 2015
All three documentaries of the Shadow Ops series were well done but I especially enjoyed Codename: TRIGON, based on news accounts (mostly Russian-sourced) and Martha Peterson's autobiographical book Widowspy. It had all the expectations of a great spy novel but in this case it's true: Beautiful young American girl outwits the KGB and handles a Russian agent who helps us win the Cold War and was caught only because of betrayal by a CIA double agent. Interviewees include the KGB colonel who was in charge of catching her, who admits she put one of his officers in the hospital with a groin injury and "couldn't have sex for two years. A big plus was they let Martha Peterson narrate part of the documentary, but a criticism is the choice of the actress who played Peterson. Rather than an attractive, outgoing young lady with an infectious personality the lady chosen to play her came through was a boring middle-aged spinster.
