Missing old friends

It took me a while to realize that this series is set prior to the Sister Boniface series (1950s vs. 1960s). That explains why she has only a masters degree in Father Brown (so she tells the inspector) but a PhD in forensic science in her own series. And apparently this series predates her working with the police as evidenced by the dialogue.

I really miss all the previous characters: Mrs. McCarthy, Bunty, Lady Felicia. They were all larger than life with huge, fun, vibrant personalities. These new characters of Brenda and Mrs. Divine are so bland and boring. They don't have the same pizzazz. I really wanted to like them and at least give them a chance but they're just such a snooze fest. It's not necessarily their acting (but who knows... maybe it is). Their characters are just so boring!

Please inject some life into the show again!! Bring on characters who jump off the screen and bring the excitement again!

An instant classic.

A renowned artist arrives in Kembleford, just as a life drawing competition is about to begin. Having upset half the village, the artist is killed, number one suspect is Sister Boniface, having supplied the wine that poisoned him.

After a somewhat average series opener, this second installment was pretty awesome, I think this has instantly become one of my favourites, it's a great mystery, with some terrific characters, and the return of a much loved old friend.

It's a shame that Sister Boniface hasn't appeared more over the years, I'm loving her spin off series, but there's nothing better than seeing her and Father Brown teamed up once again.

Great to see Lorna Watson teamed up with her comedy partner Ingrid Oliver, who was great here. I kept thinking of their comedy sketch with the eyebrows, if you've not seen it, jump on Youtube, it's funny.

An angry Father Brown, I think that's the first time we've seen that emotion so far, Mark Williams continues to deliver, I'm not sure he gets enough credit.

Terrific.

10/10.

The Forensic Nun

Sister Boniface arrived at Kembleford to deliver a crate of wine and was later arrested for murder.

Loathful supercilious artist Marmaduke Snell turned up at the village's Life Drawing Competition. He soon ppset the artistic locals and then dropped dead.

The cause of death was poisoned wine. Inspector Sullivan had no option but arrest Sister Boniface.

It is left to Father Brown to help her. Although Sister Boniface's forensic scientific help is required.

The story is not only the meeting of two franchises. It also unites the comedy duo of Lorna Watson and Ingrid Oliver.

An enjoyable enough story but not vintage Father Brown. It reminded me too much of when Father Brown got arrested and others rallied around.
