Festive fun and frustration.
Sleepin_Dragon25 December 2023
A kind hearted Lucy agrees to invite an elderly man named Wilfred from a local care home for dinner. Lee picks up Wilfred, and offers him a glass of sherry......

Notable for being the show's 100th episode, this really was a celebration of the show, it's a very funny Christmas special.

The usual mix of bizarre humour, great delivery and sharp one liners, arguably it's Toby that gets the best if the one liners, and that joke about Santa's grotto was side splitting.

I only hope that the show doesn't come to an end here, it's about the last sitcom The BBC has in its armoury, please let it continue.

There's nothing like a death at Christmas, very funny.

8/10.

Not Going Out @ 100

So here we go - the 100th episode of 'Not Going Out'.

This is a major achievement. The BBC should be shouting about this more than they have been.

This show is one of the last studio based sitcoms being made (not again until 2025 according to Lee Mack, who is busy with other things) and to get to 100 episodes is massive, especially when you consider the cast and premise changes over the years.

I thought that this was great. Very funny. Yes, it was a bit dark in terms of its humour, but it played out brilliantly like farce.

Everyone got their moment, and it proved to be very entertaining.

It's a hit and miss show sometimes 'Not Going Out', but it delivered here.

45 mins of great Christmas fun!
zomballfish24 December 2023
After a couple series with some rather forgettable episodes, this is a perfect Christmas special for the show's 100th proper episode: easily laughable and clever story writing. Not to slate the last few series since I did enjoy them, but they weren't up to par in comparison to the show's series with Tim and Daisy and the early seasons where Lucy and Lee are married (series 8-10). But this episode was definitely a good one, with some great twists and turns in the script to throw the readers off course. The story felt fairly original and had lots of jokes and one liners that maker you laugh out loud. The ending could have ended in a big laughing stock as many of the previous episodes have, but I think overall the episode was comical and enjoyable!

I'd give this a solid 8.5/10, but IMDb only allows integers, so I'd probably round it to an 8 as a 9 is quite high!

Well done Lee and the whole cast and crew!

Amazing to be able to be so good after 100 episodes!

After a few of the episodes from the last series were merely okay, this Christmas special was a return to form, great fun, with lots of funny lines and situations.

Lee, as so often before, just digs himself in deeper and deeper as he tries to cover up his first mistake. Toby (the doctor) is drafted in and arrives with Anna to add to the mix. Toby delivers some great one-liners.

One of the nice things about Not Going Out is that it started out in such a different guise, as Lee tried repeatedly to get his flatmate (first Kate and then Lucy) to return his interest, and the characters have developed nicely over the years, something you won't always see in a sitcom.

Very cleverly written, watch and enjoy!

Don't Give Him A Drink

Some funny lines, nice twists and another awkward scenario. Lucy always puts Lee in awkward situations and Lee always finds a way to make it worse. It often happens and here is no exception!

Seeing Lee dig himself into a deeper hole with his lies was a joy. One of the gags reminded me of a joke Lee Mack does in an episode of WILTY which was great. I would have to say that Toby in particular was funny here and made me laugh several times.

Outside of that it did get a little tiresome and just like turkey flavoured quavers, very strange. The kids as per usual are given very little to do and Bobby Ball's Frank is a huge miss.

I truly hope this isn't the last episode of the show and there is a more satisfying conclusion to the show like there initially was with the wedding!

Wilfred

Almost Fawlty Towers. Lee ends up in a jam while he thought he was doing a good dead.

Wilfred is the lonely elderly man that Lucy decides invite for Christmas dinner from the care home.

He is an alcoholic but Lee does not know this when he picks him up.

When Wilfred arrives, he wants a sherry and watch Naked Attraction on television before dropping dead.

A shocked Lee tries to hide the body as he does not want to ruin another family Christmas. So he puts Wilfred in the shed before Lucy and her parents arrive.

This is the 100th episode of Not Going Out. I did think the previous series was flagging. Lee Mack managed to find a few more zingers for this special.

Frustrating episode
joewilson7025 December 2023
Another frustrating episode, which was more like an episode of his other sitcom 'Semi-Detached', basically Lee ruuning about trying to fix a problem he could have solved by just TELLING THE TRUTH. You'll shout at the screen many times, 'Just tell her the truth'. It had a few twists, the main one, you'll guess as soon as it happens.

The dad is stiil rude and obnoxious to Lee, Toby's wife is the same to Toby and the only likeable character is Lucy....... By the end of the show I was as exhausted as Lee and am starting to ask myself, do we need another series? It's now just angry people shouting at each other.

Disappointing.
kenbo-8736027 December 2023
Not Going Out is one of my favourite sitcoms. I've watched them all numerous times. Unfortunately the standard is getting worse and worse, it's almost agonising watching it decline so much.

This was their hundredth episode (IMDB actually has it 102 episodes made?) and they decided to invite an old chap from a local nursing home round for Christmas dinner. He was pretty rude from the outset so it looked promising early on. Three or four minutes later and there was a calamity. Obviously Lee didn't take the obvious option to get out of this situation, so we end up watching thirty minutes of farce. There was a few good gags, but not enough for me to find the episode anywhere near good.

I'm pretty sure I laughed more watching the Christmas edition of The 1% Club.

All avid fans will watch it regardless. There's no chance I'd miss a new episode, but I'm fairly sure before I watch it that it won't live up to its past high standards.
