Best Bengali web series of 2023

SIN Whispers of Guilt is such a fresh webseries in Bengali. In the midst of so many mediocre ones, this one stands out as unique and intense.

Unlike a run the mill thrillers, this series has dealt with the characters around a mysterious murder mystery elegantly and with care. The dramatization of the scenario, the inner conflicts of the characters portrayed in the series are seldom found in todays' series, leave along in a Bengali one.

Although this season has no apparent recollection with the previous one aired in 2020, the systemic similarities are uncanny. The two main questions from the previous season- the symbol and the crime , as well as the protagonist's inner demons are beautifully resolved in a manner that is subtle yet impactful.

I liked the story progression and the drama of the relationships- something we expect but often do not get in a thriller.

I will not characterise this as a typical whodunnit, but rather as a relationship drama in the context of a thrilling detection journey.

The makers deserve kudos for inventing a fresh and mature detective amongst the milieu of reincarnation of teenage detective series in Bengal. Feluda and Byomkesh are overused, but Samar may become our very new Poirot or Homes pretty soon.

Must watch, and best bengali series of 2023 .

Riveting Watch...Bingeworthy!
banneddebasis3 January 2024
When I started watching Sin, I was not really expecting that a cop drama would be presented with these many layers! Being a voracious consumer of cop films and series from across the world, and quite a snoot about plot holes in them, I feel smug predicting patterns, but Sin has caught me off guard!

The story is set with a unique blend of crime and nostalgia, marked with a pensive "Hemantaesque" theme song, setting the tone of the story, where each character's back stories have created a maze that has brought together two seasoned cops and an investigative journalist in the quest to reveal the truth behind the crimes, the truth within their relationships, and the truth of their own selves. The characters have been made extremely palpable by their vulnerabilities and limitations, and sometimes their personal and professional priorities got so intertwined, that it became really difficult to tell from one another, leaving me probably asking for a little more, so that I could get to know them a little further!

The performances of the cast have been captivating, not just the leads, but all the actors deserve many accolades for bringing life to those characters. The series has three very catchy songs, but the song "Jiboner Gaan" has particularly got me hooked because of the old world charm it brought onto the locations in and around Calcutta, which has also been like an important character in the series, caught immaculately through the lens of the cinematography team.

The series is paced very smartly, and with the scenes and subplots transitioning smoothly from one another, calls for a perfect binge watch experience. And finally, the way the climax has been written, would definitely make even a seasoned thriller watcher's jaw drop in surprise!

Sin has been a riveting watch for me with its crisp storytelling and intimate characters, would be happy if more are made like this in Bengali!

A good Bengali thriller after a long time
chatterjeesutanuka28 December 2023
This web series is quite a good thriller in Bengali language after a long time. These days, Bengali thrillers are nowhere near to thrill. But this one is an exception with a great story.

While watching the series, I felt the need of a little breathing space in between to process the information. Otherwise the series is very catchy and has the full capacity to hold audience's attention.

The performance of Tridha is great and I loved it. She seemed very natural with her character.

Md. Shahidur Rahaman is awesome in this series. He is a sheer treat to watch.

I think SIN is perfect for a winter Sunday afternoon binge watch.
