To millions of fans around the world, Bryan Cranston is best known as Walter White, the mild-mannered high school teacher who starts manufacturing meth in order to secure his family’s future. However, long before he landed the role of Walter White in Breaking Bad, he was acting in a very different kind of TV series. For several years, Cranston had a recurring role in the iconic ’90s comedy Seinfeld — and to the distinguished actor, his time on the series is still one of his all-time best experiences at work. In a recent interview with GQ, Cranston opened up about how he never wanted to leave the set of Seinfeld.

Chris Hardwick is certainly keeping his "Talking" seat warm.
The host of "The Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead" after-show "Talking Dead," and "Better Call Saul" after-show "Talking Saul," and "Breaking Bad" after-show "Talking Bad," will soon lead another live post-show discussion, this time for AMC's new comic book adaptation, "Preacher." However, as for "Saul," it's just for two very special episodes.
"Preacher" premieres with a 90-minute episode this Sunday, May 22 at 10 p.m. Et, after the midseason finale of "Fear." The new after-show "Talking Preacher" will debut Memorial Day weekend, on Sunday, May 29 at 10:30 p.m., following an encore airing of the "Preacher" pilot episode. HBO is getting into the aftershow business.
Following in the footsteps of AMC's The Talking Dead and Talking Bad, the premium network is launching an aftershow for its own wildly successful series, Game of Thrones, called After The Thrones. This is the first show that's part of the network's collaboration with former Grantlander Bill Simmons, who will executive produce while Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan, the hosts of Grantland's Watch The Thrones podcast, take hosting duties. The first episode will debut on April 25th, a day after the season six premiere of Game of Thrones, and it sounds like all of the new episodes will follow that same pattern of airing the Monday after each new episode of Got.
I've never heard Greenwald and Ryan's previous podcast, so I'm not sure what kind of hosts they'll be, but I have to admit that I was a little relieved to hear...

Chris Hardwick, once best known as the host of MTV dating show Singled Out alongside Jenny McCarthy, has in recent years seen his profile grow significantly, starting the Nerdist podcast and growing it into a brand that now includes multiple podcasts, a website, and a movie distribution arm, among numerous other things. Hardwick himself has also become more prominent independent of the Nerdist brand, hosting both Talking Dead and the now-ended Talking Bad on AMC, as well as the @midnight show on Comedy Central.
Throughout all his endeavours, Hardwick has made no secret of his love for all aspects of geeky pop culture, one of which involves the Marvel comic series Fantastic Four, and its film adaptations, the newest of which is poised to hit theatres this Friday. AMC loves it some Chris Hardwick. The cable television network that's been home to one, eight-episode season of the Hardwick-hosted Breaking Bad after show, Talking Bad, and no less than four seasons and 45 episodes (and counting) of the Hardwick-hosted Walking Dead after show, Talking Dead, will soon become home to the TV iteration of Hardwick's All-Star Celebrity Bowling. AMC ordered eight episodes of the competitive talk show that originally got its start way back in April 2012 under YouTube's $100 million Original Channels Initiative as a brand new web series on the then shiny new Nerdist Industries YouTube channel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, longtime online video veterans and mainstream funnymen Randy and Jason Sklar (who savvy online video viewers will recognize from web series favorites like Back On Topps and ["(Layers)"]) are slated to host the program. If the show is anything like its online video predecessor, it will pit Hardwick and...

TV news and notes:
- The premiere of "Late Night with Seth Meyers" pulled in strong ratings Monday night (Feb. 24). The show drew 3.4 million viewers and a 1.4 rating in adults 18-49 -- slight improvements on Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night" debut in 2009 and substantially above the show's average for this season. As for Fallon, his first "Tonight Show" without an Olympics lead-in did well too with 6.3 million viewers and a 2.1 in the 18-49 demo; "Tonight's" season averages are 4 million viewers and a 1.0 in adults 18-49.
- "Bates Motel" is the latest TV series to get its own after hours show. A&E announced that that the same company that produced "Talking Bad" and "Talking Dead" is helping them create "Bates Motel: After Hours." The first episode of "After Hours" will air as a special following the "Bates Motel" Season 2 premiere on March 3, but it could turn into a full-blown half-hour companion series.

Capitalizing on a recent precedent set by other popular TV shows, A&E's "Bates Motel" will be followed by a live after-show when it returns March 3. Titled "Bates Motel: After Hours," the special will include the programs' two main stars, Vera Farmiga and Freddy Highmore, as well as Max Thieriot and executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin. The half-hour live show will feature the actors and producers discussing the night's episode as well as answering fan questions. Deadline Hollywood reports "After Hours" is to be aired as a stand-alone special following the premiere, but could continue in the following weeks if the ratings are strong enough. Like similar post-shows in the past, "After Hours" will try to capitalize on the ratings of its lead-in original program and extend advertising revenue for its network. "The Walking Dead" uses the same strategy with "The Talking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" did...

AMC introduced the live companion after-show to a hit serialized drama with the successful Talking Dead and Talking Bad (to be followed by Talking Mad?). Now A&E is taking a page from the playbook with Bates Motel: After Hours, which hails from the same company that has produced Talking Dead and Talking Bad, Michael Davies’ Embassy Row. A&E will try out the after-show to its flagship drama Bates Motel as a special, following the show’s second season premiere on March 3, but the intention likely is to turn this into a companion series. Then there’s films to watch, comics to read and games to play. Plus a job, a family life and other trivialities like that. But certainly, my cartoons dance card is looking pretty full. On finding out the cast and influences of Sanjay and Craig, though, I decided I should at least take a look. And now I have a problem, because it...

With "Breaking Bad" over, Chris Hardwick is down to having only one talk show on AMC. "Talking Dead" will premiere alongside "The Walking Dead" on Oct. 13, and Hardwick doesn't plan on introducing any new after shows any time soon -- not even something along the lines of a "Mad Men" spinoff called "Talking Mad."
"I've been calling it 'Mad Mentions,' and someone on Twitter today said, 'When are you going to do 'Spoken Wheels' for 'Hell on Wheels,'" Hardwick jokes to Zap2it at the red carpet premiere of "The Walking Dead" Season 4. "But then there's like 'Boardwalk Talkpire' is another one we're going to do ... People always ask me what would all the after shows be called. I did 'Talking Bad,' but I think 'Talking Dead' is probably going to be it for after shows for me. I don't need another one after this.

We are at the end of an era. The very last episode of Breaking Bad played to the heartstrings of millions of fans Sunday night and gave many of true sense of satisfaction. Often times, the best TV series don’t run long enough before being cancelled and ones that do run past three seasons start to stink like a rotting corpse on Walking Dead. Whether you were a fan of Dexter, Seinfeld, Lost or The Sopranos, disappointment gets even the best of them–but not Breaking Bad. There was no ambiguity, no room for interpretation, no loose dangling threads twisting in the wind.
Thankfully creator Vince Gilligan, cast and crew gave us a worthwhile and memorable finale, proper closure to accompany all the mental scarring along the way. Regardless if you were in Team Walt, Team Jesse, Team Hank, or Team Gus, there was no way one could refuse...

One key to the greatness of the "Breaking Bad" finale was that it was written by Walter White himself. He personally engineered all of its highly satisfying resolutions. Satisfying in the first instance for him but also to us, not least because they were founded on what seemed to be real repentance in his statement to Skyler, and not a moment too soon. So no complaints, please, that the string of thematic wraps ups was "too neat," since the neatnik is clearly Walt. In a couple of places, notably the post-finale episode of "Talking Bad," and in a comment last night to my post to this effect on Facebook by "New York" magazine film critic David Edelstein, it has been pointed out that this string of coups was classic Heisenberg in hinging in part on Walter's established flair for improvisation. Vince Gilligan testified during the TB discussion that he had "The Searchers" in mind,...

The Breaking Bad series finale went out with a bang last night, clocking 10.3 million viewers – a record for the iconic AMC series. The finale skyrocketed 300% over last year’s finale in the demo, capping a historic run for the basic cable network. After that, an expanded Talking Bad delivered 4.4 million viewers. “Breaking Bad is simply unique,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “It all starts with Vince Gilligan who really only ever asked for one thing – the opportunity to end the show on his own terms. That is exactly what Vince did last night and, as always, brilliantly so. Congratulations to Vince and to every single person involved in this remarkable journey. We’re proud that AMC will forever be known as the birthplace and home of this iconic show and, at the same time, we tip our Heisenberg hat to the fans who made this a truly shared experience.” Related:...

Now that everyone has caught their breath, let's talk more about the Breaking Bad series finale, which was the perfect ending to a perfect series, in our humble opinion. For those who still haven't watched: get off the Internet because there are spoilers everywhere, including below! Walt (Bryan Cranston) got his revenge but succumbed to his wombs. Jesse (Aaron Paul) got away. Walt's family will get the money he earned. And who will ever forget the trunk machine gun contraption that Walt built to dispose of Jack's ((Michael Bowen) group? All loose ends were tied up, except for hearing from creator Vince Gilligan about the finale. Thankfully, he appeared on Talking Bad to talk about the choices the production...

While last night’s Breaking Bad finale officially ended the speculation about what might happen, it also commenced the speculation about what might have happened—a brief grace period to ease the transition, before we all begin the lifelong struggle of learning how to make conversation without talking about Breaking Bad. And while Vince Gilligan and the cast already discussed plenty about what went into “Felina” on the finale of Talking Bad, right before they blew up Chris Hardwick, there’s even more over at Entertainment Weekly, where a wrap-up interview with Gilligan and another with Bryan Cranston and Aaron ...

Right after Breaking Bad ended, Vince Gilligan and most of the cast (notably minus Bryan Cranston and Bob Odenkirk) showed up to discuss the finale on Talking Bad. In it Vince Gilligan, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks, and Rj Mitte (and, for some reason, Jimmy Kimmel) reflected on the show and gave up details about the finale, like why Walt didn't shoot Jesse, why Jesse didn't shoot Walt, why Walt left his watch on the pay phone, and more.1. Gilligan explained that the reason Walt placed his watch (the one Jesse gave him for his 51st birthday) on top of the payphone after pretending to be the New York Times reporter was only retrofitted symbolism: The reason he had to do it was because they realized that in the flash-forward of him at Denny's that they'd shot for episode 501, Walt wasn't wearing a watch, so they had...

"Breaking Bad" has come to an end. A review of the series finale coming up just as soon as I compare pizza to Thai food... "I did it for me. I was good at it. And I was really — I was alive." -Walt Moments after "Breaking Bad" concluded, Vince Gilligan joined Aaron Paul (and, of all people, Jimmy Kimmel) for the final installment of "Talking Bad," whose host Chris Hardwick was very pleased that Gilligan hadn't gone for an oblique ending that left viewers wondering what the hell had just happened. "The Sopranos" was cited, and that's the finale that's...

On Sunday's episode of AMC's self-referential chat show "Talking Bad," actor Matt Jones observed that his character, Badger, a slacker/stoner member of Jesse Pinkman's drug crew, had been kept around on "Breaking Bad," along with his pal Skinny Pete (Charles Baker), mostly to remind us where Jessie came from. "Badger and Skinny Pete," Jones said, "represent what Jesse was. And if Jesse never met Walt and they never cooked together, he'd still be us."Several scenes in Season 5 are designed to show us precisely how far Jessie has devolved from the innocence he used to share with his buds. Chief among these is Badger's delirious rant promoting his "Star Trek" script (see below). At that point Jesse is trying to reconnect with his roots after witnessing death and suffering betrayal, and he just can't hack it. His revulsion as he listens to Badger's rant is finally what this classic scene is about.

In the days leading up the series finale, it’s going to be all Breaking Bad almost all the time on AMC. I’ve learned that the cable channel is going to show every episode of the meth-drenched drama from Season 1 onward. The “Countdown To Finale,” as AMC has dubbed it, will start at 8 Pm September 25 with the very first episode from January 20, 2008, and goes straight through to the end of Season 4 late on Friday, September 27. The marathon picks up again with the current Season 5 at 11 Pm September 28 and goes through the night and day up to the 75-minute series finale at 9 Pm September 29. AMC’s freshman Low Winter Sun will be pushed back to a 11:15 Pm start time on the Sunday because of the extended finale episode and the one-hour live Talking Bad featuring series creator Vince Gilligan, star Aaron Paul, Giancarlo Esposito, Jesse Plemmons, Rj Mitte, Jonathan Banks...

More zombies? Yes please. More shows of the caliber of The Walking Dead, about the zombie apocalypse? Yes. Please. As the president of AMC says, it’s a no-brainer. Yes it’s a great line, but it’s also an excellent point. Given the stunning success of the show, why wouldn’t they?
The Walking Dead comics creator Robert Kirkman will be an executive producer, joined by the two other primary Twd executive producers, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert.
