Uttam Kumar is a magic! Must experience!
amikripa4 May 2024
Seen the magic of Uttam Kumar in a cenema hall for the first time. Never seen people staying in the hall after the movie ended just to see some pictures and videos of an actor. This thing no actor can never have!

How wonderful it is! A person is still capturing and the screen and running the whole movie after 54 years of his death!

Story was average but watching it was awesome with some friends and elderly person with beautiful romanticism.

Awesome charm happens with every presens of Uttam Kumar with his unique looks and dialogues.

Kissing scenes was a nonsense act. Shouldn't hv added those so called cheap modernism.

Overall the movie is good.

New Concept
trombokendu25 March 2024
The entire cast displayed perfect comic timing, making this concept a completely new and refreshing experience. Even Uttam Kumar Sir's shots matched the tone seamlessly. It is evident that a lot of effort and preparation went into creating this art piece. However, due to budget constraints, the camera and cinematography quality suffered at times, resulting in laggy and low-quality shots. Additionally, the story felt a bit dragged out, especially during the first half and climax. Nevertheless, it is still a nice film that beautifully pays homage to the legendary Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. The special cameo appearance was a delightful surprise and fit in perfectly. This movie is a great choice for a family and friends gathering, particularly when watching with elders.

Old Wine in a New Bottle

Illogical Premise. Poor Direction. Actors have tried their best to do justice but failed miserably. Very poor direction. But the effort of back-calculating the Screenplay, selecting 54 shots out of Uttam Kumar's old 87 films and then rotoscoping the digitally remasteres shots are not a matter of joke. The music is nice and the Cinematography is good. But picturising intimate scenes with the heroine and Uttam Kumar was like a culture shock. However, One-time Watch 👍🏻

What a movie , what a great initiative, lovely emotions ,love for this movie , love for uttam kumar flows . A historic day for all of us. Proud moments. Again to see uttam kumar after 42 years is a big thing we are watching his movie in theaters for the fist time. If this movie was not made we our generation will never had the chance to see him on the big screen.

The story is so good , great job by the director and the production house what a job . Looking forward to watch the movie again and again.

This has changed the face of bengali cinema. Am just overwhelmed By seeing the movie, hats off.

Another TRASH from Srijit Mukherjee
sharnabpaul27 March 2024
◾Positive aspect

1) Biggest attraction is getting Uttam Kumar back on the big screen 2) Only Anindya's acting is good in the movie .

3) Srijit Mukherjee's movie songs are always good and there is no exception in this movie.

◾Negative aspect

1) There is nothing new in the story , rather there is no story .

2) No character can be felt. There is no chemistry between the main male and female lead characters in the story.

3) Dialogues are one of the main attractions of Srijit Mukherjee's movies but this movie has no good dialogues.

4) Bengali cinema doesn't have much advantage of technology . Uttam Kumar repeatedly appears in different clothes in the same scene is not good at all . Rather it spoils the flow of the story .

5) Besides, the plot, writing, screenplay and character development of the movie is very poor.

Good

Warning: Spoilers
Good.movie To all my readers,

I am a gen z teen. Perhaps, for me it's quite obvious that Uttam Kumar---or perhaps UK--- might be a legendary character of the past, idolized by many,as known; but he is to me only a "Nayak",not a "Mahanayak", or any superficial being ,who influences lives by their sheer talent, ethics and dedication;as predominantly pointed out by Mr. Ray in the movie of the same name. He is a polished actor ,who has redefined himself according to the script ,each time, for the silver screen,in its truest sense...Now,coming back to the film. Mr. Mukherjee has beautifully utilised the present technological advancements rhymtically to counter balance the theme of the movie, along with the clips of UK's movie scenes,as an additional delight. The film ,though has a childish approach to love.

End credits was better than the movie itself
priprocks30 March 2024
Srijit tried to reverse engineer a plot out of Uttam Kumar's roles. Managed to carve out the most generic and shallow story - love triangle.

The storyline would feel very abrupt. No character consistency whatsoever.

I guess the story would have had a lot more substance to it if it would just revolve around the protagonist's love for Uttam. It'd probably have the Gandhi vibe from Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The intention of this setup was so novel that it had to work for Hirani.

But credit where its due - the scenes of Uttam just walking around the city, getting mesmerized over his statue and the station was so good. The thought of him coming back as a soul and, for him to realize he's a king and the respect he commands over the masses was all I wanted this movie to be about.

Also, the end credits >> entire movie!

Innovative

Really creative in my opinion. I don't remember seeing this concept before. Hats off to Srijit Mukherjee for watching all Uttam Kumar films to make a script like this. Jokes in this movie gets the job done. As a 20s kid I haven't watched many Mahanayak films. Although I did watch some here and there. Still I am aware of his legacy. For people who experienced the Mahanayak era will get flabbergasted with nostalgia watching this. Once in a lifetime experience for them. Really good work by all the actors and Srijit Mukherjee ofcourse. I like the idea of using Gaurav Chaterjee as his own irl character in this movie as he's the gradson of Uttam Kumar himself.

Missable
DodoDroppings7 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Made an effort to watch "Oti Uttam" in the theatre for the following reasons: 1) The trailer promised a unique premise and smart placement of footage from Uttam Kumar's films to tell a contemporary story, 2) Why miss the chance of watching Uttam Kumar in a 2024 film on the big screen? Turned out to be a bad idea.

Uttam Kumar's ghost lays down some ground rules via grandson Gourab Chatterjee's body to justify the film's poor VFX, limitations in the tech and the rushed editing, then appears in black-and-white to help his conjurer and ardent fan Krishnendu (Anindya Sengupta) woo his crush Sohini (Roshni Bhattacharya). But Sohini falls hard for Uttam Kumar instead (but obvio). "UK" saves the love-stricken girl by feigning a relationship with her, only to break her heart (that too with a little help from Supriya Devi's ghost) in order to drive her to seeking some rebound love from her "friend" Krishnendu. Really? That's what they came up with? Hadn't expected greatness but was hoping for something actually worth bringing our Mahanayak back from the dead - not a poorly spun retelling of "Kal Ho Naa Ho"!

The persona we know and adore as Uttam Kumar is too mountainous and too profoundly woven into our collective consciousness to be "used" like a court jester on a whim. From "Guru" switching guises innumerable times in the same scene to him addressing the same person differently to his painfully drab "AI voice" - nothing worked for me. Everything felt forced and unnecessary, as if to merely try and elicit some form of nostalgia. The short Kolkata tour, the luncheon scene, the Subhasis Mukherjee-Laboni Sarkar comedic duo and a couple decent songs were the only saving grace.

such a waste!
doctor-mansij15 April 2024
A complete crap. Just giving 2/10 for the sake of the name "Uttam Kumar". There is absolutely no story, pretty poor cinematography and use of AI, also the sound and background score is pathetic. Acting of the current characters are also awful. At least some good storyline must have been there to respect the legacy and the nostalgia that we have. Only innovative idea can't create masterpieces. Mr Srijit should understand that he is not a Nolan or Scorsese or Tarantino. Overall, a complete wastes of time, money, resource and efforts. My mistake, I took my entire family without getting proper reviews beforehand.

Only about Mahanayak. Nothing else !!
suranjanmalik-7512115 April 2024
Yes, obviously innovative in its approach but this film does not stand to the expectations of all the audience. The first half is very good actually, presenting a film mixed with romance comedy and horror elements ( talking about the planchet. Though very little, but still). There are many good scenes and sequences in the first half. While the first half attracts the second half districts.

This film could have been something else.

What I felt Uttam Kumar is the main thing in this film. That is not a problem, but when you want to produce a film thinking that he( Uttam Kumar) will manage every flaw of this film, problem starts there.

This film is average. I felt Srijit has made a film out of a bad Bengali TV serial.
