We're only five episodes in, but "The Vow" is certainly a standout. I am totally here for the goofy side of The Rookie, but this episode leaned harder into some serious drama, and it was the better for it. (But we got a fun little Smitty cameo to keep things light.)

I have to say, Aaron keeps growing on me as a character. It seemed obvious there was some sort of spark with his therapist, and this is a fun conflict to watch after the two of them wind up sorta going on a date.

I thought Nolan and Bailey fostering a kid would seem cloying, but my heart broke for them in the end when a family member surfaced to take care of the little girl. Well done, Rookie writers.

And then we have Tim. Tim's darker past is one of the better parts of The Rookie, and watching him decide what to do with an old foe (we're hitting peak David Dastmalchian!) was authentic and compelling. This was drama with Lucy that felt earned, not contrived like earlier in the season.

Solid stuff overall. More episodes like this, please. Less episodes like that horrible honeymoon in hell from earlier in the season.

This episode felt so much better then what they've been doing lately, the show is at its best when they're going for the serious and drama vibe and are keeping things simple rather than trying to be overly funny with good awful music they put with every punchline and punchlininsh moment.

So, if anyone from the rookie reads this which i doubt they would but please focus more on good stories don't try to be too funny and the music its gotta be better its so annoying I'd fine with no music too. And you don't put every character you ever had on every episodes tell good stories for core characters and use the other when it feels really necessary. And the two detectives have too many weird show offs like fist bumping on taking the most obivious steps in case.

In conclusion keep it simple, tell good stories. And please please change the music its so so annoying.

I was so worried about the fostering. I thought they would keep the little girl and that would completely change the show for me. So I've felt so relieved when that did not happen.

I am so tired of Lucy and her drama. But the rest of the episode was good. And Nolan was cleared of his Oscar case! Great, because I was so annoyed with the show suddenly showing Nolan, who was always portrayed as somebody very responsible and worried for his job, as someone who could forget his deposition. Especially when he knows how dangerous is the lawyer.

So, it was a good episode, but nothing to write home for.
