A very enjoyable mystery, with a familiar face.
Sleepin_Dragon21 March 2024
Neville and team investigate the death of British barrister Cora Blyth, who was killed travelling down a single from in a lift at her hotel. The paperwork piles up, Selwyn brings in a familiar face to help out.

I thought quite highly of this one, we've had countless locked room mysteries, I can't think of many travelling lift whodunnits. Let's be honest, we all knew what was coming, but it was thoroughly entertaining.

Once again, it's a fairly small pool of suspects, not particularly hard to work out who the guilty party is, all about 'that' alibi.

It's turning into Doctor Who, calling on its back catalogue of familiar faces to help out when needed, Dwayne's reappearance was a poorly kept secret, and he stepped straight back in, comedy falls an' all.

It's funny how we all see different things, I was going to comment, saying how good John Gordon Sinclair was looking, not looking his 62 years.

One of the best from this series, a fine episode.

8/10.

Awaiting the next white man savior as Inspector
rhagelberg26 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In this ongoing series, while I've found much to enjoy, a lingering discomfort persists over its portrayal of a white protagonist assuming intellectual superiority over predominantly non-white characters on a tropical island. The colonialist undertones remain glaringly evident, with the British colonial narrative of superiority over indigenous populations persisting as a central theme.

While Neville has proven competent as an inspector, he pales in comparison to the charisma, intelligence, and sheer presence of his predecessor, Mooney. Now, as Neville departs, rumors swirl of yet another white actor, Martin Clunes, poised to assume the role of the next "savior" figure. While Clunes undoubtedly possesses acting prowess and screen experience, the prospect of another white elite character stepping into the role leaves a bitter taste. Why not explore the potential of an Indian, Jamaican, or even a local resident of color ascending to the position of inspector? Sadly, it seems such a progressive shift would undermine the core message the series seeks to convey.

Two surprise returns
safenoe20 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, Dwayne returns! After the departure of Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) we see the surprise and welcome return of Officer Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) to replace him in the Scooby Gang, and it's a lot of fun and tension with his former flame Officer Darlene Curtis (Ginny Holder). Anyway, the main murder mystery was quite elaborate. I'm being quite serious here, but Ali Ariaie, who played Sam Portlake, could easily play the current Indian-English prime minister of England in a biopic, such is the resemblance.

Ronni Ancona also guest stars.

And guess who also returns DS Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert) who's no longer under witness protection, so what will happen. DI Parker's heart is broken and he plans to leave the island and find love init.

Episode 6
Prismark1013 March 2024
The trailer in the previous episode let the car out of the bag. Officer Dwayne returns from London as Commissioner Patterson calls in a favour.

Not before time. There is a murder and it proves to be an up and down case. Cora Blythe (Gabrielle Glaister) is holidaying on the island with her family at the Arawak resort. She is seriously ill.

Her husband Joe (John Gordon Sinclair) helped her to get into the life but then had to return to the room to retrieve some club cards. As she goes down the hotel lift for dinner, someone murdered her.

When the lift door opens the concierge finds that Cora was stabbed.

DI Neville Parker finds that although the trip to St Marie was on Cora's bucket list. It was not written down anywhere on her list.

He also thinks that the family hidden had secrets such as infidelity.

I did wonder who could had gone in the lift in the short time Joe closed the door. So I did like how DI Parker worked out the mystery.

It was disconcerting to see how old the two guest actors had got. It seems only a few years ago that John Gordon Sinclair used to play gawky lovestruck teenagers. Gabrielle Glaister was Bob in Blackadder 2.
