It will take on the events of Emergency Day with fan-favorite characters returning. Players were pleased to see a younger Marcus Fenix on screen, but also Dom Santiago. Even though fans know of Dom’s tragic story, he’s still one of the best characters in the franchise.

Developer The Coalition are returning to the Gears of War franchise after 2019’s Gears 5, this time with a prequel in Gears of War: E-Day. Announced during the Xbox Games Showcase, E-Day will take place fourteen years before Gears of War, and sees the return of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. Accompanying the announcement is a new trailer.
Currently in development for the Xbox Series and PC, Gears of War: E-Day is set during Emergence Day, and will have Fenix and Santiago facing off against the Locust Horde. In an interview with Xbox Wire, The Coalition aims to recreate and improve the series’ trademark third-person action, set within an explosive campaign that combines satisfying gameplay and “emotive, character-led storytelling.”
“It’s going to feel like a new Gears game, because that’s what it is,” says Creative Director Matt Searcy. “It’s us revisiting the tone and the feeling of what makes Gears great,...

Anita Gou is no stranger to the festival circuit. Her L.A.-based Kindred Spirit banner saw a raft of its first projects debut at Sundance but, more recently, her co-production Silent Twins was selected in Un Certain Regard in 2022, while Dominic Savage’s Close To You premiered in Toronto last year. The company’s Mubi-acquired doc The Last Year of Darkness, which explores the lives of alternative Chinese youth, was awarded a Special Mention prize in the Next:Wave section at the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival last year.

In his deut feature “Locust”, a gangster drama set up in one of Taipei's precarious districts, Taiwanese director Keff puts his troubled youth with speech impairment into lots of trouble. It is a film that doesn't used the flashy camera work or special effects to manipulate the story, but focuses on the youngest members of the gangs who, empowered by the sense of being “somebody” cause a lot of mayhem in their town.
The film has celebrated its world premiere in Cannes prestigious Semaine de la Critique program, and we took he opportunity to speak to the helmer about his interestingly plotted film, which lets the news about the demonstrations in Hong Kong constantly running in the background. “Locust” is in no sense a political film, but it raises awareness of what was happening during the time when the world was mainly occupied with news surrounding the pandemic.
