This weekend was projected to be a breather in between massive openings for “Despicable Me 4” (Universal) and “Twisters” (Universal)/“Deadpool and Wolverine” (Disney) the following two weeks. It sort of worked out that way, but not the way it was expected.
“Longlegs” (Neon) and “Fly Me to the Moon” (Sony) were projected to come in second and third this weekend with a combined $30 million-$35 million. That part happened. But Apple’s rom-com with Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum was expected to take second, perhaps at least $15 million (earlier projections higher), while Oz Perkins’ distinctive horror-thriller starring Nicolas Cage was felt to be $10 million or more.
Instead, “Longlegs” took second with $22.6 million, while “Fly” is initially placed at $10 million (others have it lower), and only in fifth place. Both are striking results.
With a budget including marketing under $10 million, “Longlegs” has grossed more in only one weekend than all but...

Recently, the actor, Michael Douglas appeared on The View to discuss his upcoming documentary. But the table of hosts wasn’t prepared for his revealing marriage “secret.” During the shocking comment, the hosts take a minute to collect themselves after being rendered speechless by his response.
The View Is Back

The co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin return this week after celebrating America with a little summer break. Although they were in a groove by Thursday, July 11, they weren’t ready for what Michael Douglas was dishing. While it wasn’t always smooth sailing, they have figured out some secrets to a happy marriage.

Actor Michael Douglas, a longtime supporter of Joe Biden who hosted a Hollywood fundraiser for the president in April, said on The View today that he is “deeply, deeply concerned” about Biden’s prospects in light of the recent debate.
Asked to comment on George Clooney’s New York Times op-ed calling for Biden to step aside, Douglas said, “I think it’s a valid point. I’m deeply, deeply concerned. I mean, especially it’s difficult because the Democrats have a big bench, they’ve got a lot of heavy hitters, a lot of talent. And I do worry because with the debate…I mean, it was relatively simple: First of all, they should have just told the president to stand up, put a little make up on for the debate and then where to look, and just don’t deal with all of your facts – just deal with [Trump’s] lies.

As the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival kicks off, IMDb is showcasing two new infographics that offer a unique look at the career of festival co-founder (and film legend), Robert De Niro. Created by Tableau-user Paco Llano and using IMDb movie data, the interactive visualizations display De Niro's acting credits in a "deconstructed filmography."
The charts break down De Niro’s career using design elements to represent different facets of IMDb movie data, including genre, IMDb rating, number of user votes, and more. These are just two of more than 600 infographics and interactive displays created by Tableau users who were encouraged to dive in and experiment with the data, thanks to a partnership between the business intelligence company and IMDb.
This year’s Tribeca Film Festival features the opening night world premiere of the documentary ‘Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge.” Also featured are this year are high-profile narrative films like ‘Firebrand,’ starring Alicia Vikander and Jude Law, and more buzzworthy documentaries such as ‘America's Burning,’ narrated by Michael Douglas, and ‘Avicii - I'm Tim’ about the late DJ.
Take a tour of some of our favorite visualizations of IMDb data by Tableau users, including Robert De Niro's Deconstructed Filmography, deep dives on ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘Mean Girls,’ the films of Steven Spielberg, and more.
