“Hit Man” was the most-watched streaming original of the week by far according to Luminate’s weekly viewership rankings for June 7-13. The Richard Linklater film, which had a limited run in theaters but was primarily launched as Netflix original, hit 1.5 billion minutes watched in its first seven days on the service — translating to 12.6 million estimated views when divided by the film’s runtime.
In both viewing minutes and views, “Hit Man” more than doubled the performance of the next-most-watched movie. The French Netflix film “Under Paris” landed at No. 2 with 594.8 million minutes watched and 5.7 million views, followed by Netflix’s “How to Rob a Bank” with 216.2 million minutes watched and 2.5 million views.
The rest of the chart was populated by titles that have made Luminate's rankings in previous weeks, e.g. "Atlas" (No. 4 with 113.7 million minutes watched) and "Colors of Evil: Red" (No. 5 with 106 million minutes).

Despite its title, “How to Rob a Bank” is not an instructional video on how to commit crime. Instead, as its co-director Stephen Robert Morse tells Variety, it’s a documentary about “the consequences of crime.”
The doc, which dropped on Netflix last week, focuses on a prolific ‘90s Seattle bank robber called Scott Scurlock, whom the FBI soon nicknamed Hollywood due to his penchant for elaborate disguises.
Morse (a producer on “Amanda Knox”) and his co-director Seth Porges (“Class Action Park”) began working on the film back in 2020 and quickly tracked down many of those involved in the notorious case.
As the documentary works its way into the streamer’s global top 10, Morse sat down with Variety to discuss the genesis of the project and what he learned from getting up close and personal with a notorious bank robber.

We’re not making this true story up: “Baby Reindeer” has officially booted “The Witcher” from Netflix’s Most Popular TV (English) list.
The Richard Gadd limited series has amassed 84.5 million views globally since its release on April 11. Season 1 of “The Witcher” snagged 83 million views over its first 91 days of availability, which is Netflix’s cutoff for the all-time Top 10 list. “Baby Reindeer” has about a month left, so expect it to climb higher in the ranks. “Bridgerton: Season 2,” “Stranger Things 3,” “Fool Me Once,” and “The Night Agent”: Donny and Martha are coming for you.
Yet “Baby Reindeer” is no longer making Netflix’s weekly Top 10. Just last week it spent its eighth week on the Top 10 weekly list, clocking in at No. 10, while “Bridgerton: Season 2” has spent a whopping 19 weeks in the Top 10 as the third season of “Bridgerton” has inspired a lot of rewatches.

Netflix’s How To Rob A Bank tells the real-life story of Scott Scurlock, a charismatic criminal counted among the most elusive bank robbers in U.S. history. Nicknamed the Hollywood Bandit, Scurlock and his accomplices successfully robbed 17 banks in Seattle, Washington, stealing $2.3 million between June 1992 and November 1996. While he carried a Glock, he never used it until his last robbery, which was on Thanksgiving eve of 1996. Scurlock’s likable personality and Robinhood ideology drive the fascination around his life and crimes. He avoided using violence in his robberies and gave away a good portion of the money...

Something normal happened at Netflix. “Hit Man,” a well-reviewed film from a top director (Richard Linklater) and a hot star (Glen Powell) in an audience-friendly action title, debuted as #1 on the streamer’s top 10 movie list.
Something very weird happened at the same time. “Godzilla Minus One,” which had a long-delayed appearance in home formats, made it to #1 both at Netflix and on VOD ($5.99 rental) in its first week. By week two, it fell to #6 at Netflix, while dropping from the top spot at iTunes to #7.
Netflix acquired “Hit Man” for $20 million last year when it premiered at Venice and Toronto to great interest. Reviewed (82 Metacritic) at the level or ahead of most of the streamer’s late-year awards-bait films, the action comedy about a moonlighting professor working undercover for New Orleans police has been #1 for the last three days. Unlike most Netflix originals, does it have staying power?

I’m not going into whether someone like Nelma Kodama deserves to be the focal point of a Netflix documentary or not! Crime on the screen is something that always sells, and the more glamorous it is, the more people you have in the audience. So, it’s only natural for Netflix to churn out documentaries like Nelma Kodama: The Queen of Dirty Money. Just a while ago, the streaming giant had huge success with How to Rob a Bank, and the Nelma Kodama documentary appears to be cut from the same cloth.
Who is Nelma Kodama?
If you Google the name Nelma Kodama, you will find out that the lady is a trafficker. Of course, a routine criminal wouldn’t make it onto Netflix, so it’s quite obvious that Kodama is a big fish in the world of crime. What has she done? There are all kinds of unlawful things related to money,...

How to Rob a Bank, the latest Netflix documentary, takes us back to the mid-nineties, when the United States of America was standing on the brink of an economic boom, and a man with twisted ideologies decided to wage war against the establishment. It is very important to understand the kind of person Scott Scurlock was in order to know what was going on in his mind when he decided to rob a bank. As Scott’s sister puts it, there was a huge part of Scott’s life that he kept private. Nobody knew what was going on inside his mind, though Suzanne had a fair idea that her brother was a bit of a loner. He talked to people, he socialized, and on the face of it, he looked like a pretty normal chap. But there was a part of him that he hid from others, and there...

“How to Rob a Bank” is a Netflix documentary directed by Seth Porges and Stephen Robert Morse.
In the bustling city of Seattle during the early 90s, a man with an affinity for Hollywood heist movies embarked on a daring spree of bank heists, earning him the nickname “Hollywood” among FBI agents. This gentleman astonishingly managed to rob four banks in a single afternoon. This same setting gave rise to tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon, coffee powerhouse Starbucks, and the legendary grunge band Nirvana.
Scott Scurlock, bright and educated in medicine, biology, and chemistry, had an insatiable love for money. He made a hefty fortune manufacturing methamphetamines and when that needed to stop, he turned his attention to robbing banks. Forming a group, they began with small-scale heists, with meager hauls of $2,000 or $3,000. But when Scott hit the main vault, their heists grew, attracting the attention of the FBI.

The new true-crime documentary film on Netflix, How to Rob a Bank, presents a set of unexpected events from the 1990s that gripped the attention of the law and the masses very firm. A single man had made a habit of walking into various banks all over Seattle, wearing prosthetic makeup that completely hid his identity, and robbing thousands of dollars by holding the people inside hostage. How to Rob a Bank covers both the police investigation that followed the robberies as well as an insight into the lives of the perpetrators, making the documentary film quite an interesting watch.

Talk to a police officer, anywhere in the world, and they’ll tell you the same thing: most criminals are stupid. That’s how they get caught. Generally speaking, smart people don’t go in for crime – they can think of less risky ways to get what they want. But what if they did? Directed by Seth Porges (of Class Action Park fame) and Stephen Robert Morse (who produced 2016’s Amanda Knox), How To Rob A Bank tells the true story of the man they called Hollywood, who fell on hard times, watched Point Break, and commenced a crime spree unlike anything seen before or since.
It happened in Seattle, though at times the events recounted here make it sound more like Gotham City. “When he walked into Lake City bank to rob us, he walked straight past his wanted poster,” one bank teller recalls. by then he’d abandoned the dead.

Netflix’s list of new releases for June 2024 look suspiciously like last month’s.
That’s because the biggest item on the schedule is Bridgerton season 3 once again. The final four episodes of Bridgerton‘s third season will premiere on June 13. Polin fans everywhere, rejoice! Other TV items of note this month include the third and final season of Sweet Tooth (June 6), Worst Roommate Ever season 2 (June 26), and That ’90s Show Part 2 (June 28).
Bridgerton aside, Netflix’s original movie options this month might be even more impressive than the TV slate. Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell as the titular assassin, premieres on June 7. That will be followed by documentary Black Barbie on June 19, the Jessica Alba-starring Trigger Warning on June 21, and romcom A Family Affair on June 28
Here’s everything else coming to Netflix this month. Note that Netflix marks its international offerings with that respective country’s two-letter country code.

7 years ago, the whole world was amazed by the story about a group of robbers who were implementing a multi-day assault on the Royal Mint of Spain in Madrid. Later Money Heist became the most-watched non-English-language series on Netflix, proving that people’s interest in heist flicks and exploration of criminals’ minds is never-ending.
