Inspector Falke - Murder in Langeoog
Tweekums21 September 2018
In this episode Inspector Falke, of the Hamburg Police, is staying with friends on Langeoog, a fairly small, sandy island in the North Sea. His holiday is disrupted when a local woman is murdered and the most obvious suspect is his host's sixteen year old brother-in-law... he was found with the victim, high as a kite, unsure whether or not he did it or not. It isn't his jurisdiction but he inevitably gets involved and not long afterwards he is joined by partner Katharina Lorenz, who he'd asked to investigate the victim's activities in Hamburg.

It is a bit of a cliché to have a police detective caught up in a case outside his/her jurisdiction but that doesn't make it a weak episode. The setting is interesting; I was aware that Germany had islands in the North Sea but don't think I've ever seen anything set on one of them. The mystery is intriguing; it looks like an open-and-shut case but inevitably other suspects arise; not too quickly though. As the ending approaches there are good moments of tension. The cast does a solid job although not speaking German I can't comment on the accents of people playing islanders. Overall a good episode in an interesting setting.

These comments are based on watching the episode in German with English subtitles.
