Lifetime’s upcoming movie Girl In Room 13, starring Anne Heche, is still scheduled to premiere in September, the network said during the film’s panel Thursday at the Television Critics Association virtual press tour. Heche, who was originally scheduled to appear on the panel, remains hospitalized in critical condition following a car crash last week.
Amy Winter, executive VP and head of programming, addressed the issue at the top of the panel, and asked reporters to refrain from asking questions about the actor’s health status.
“As many of you know, Anne remains in critical condition and all of us here at Lifetime are deeply concerned for her and everyone affected,” Winter said. “We hope that her friends and family stay strong during this difficult time. You know, just as much as we do, that we ask that you kindly refrain from inquiring about her health status. This project is important to Anne,...

Today marks the 35th anniversary of Lifetime. It is being celebrated with a marathon of signature original movies from the past two decades, like Flirting with Forty, Homeless to Harvard, Steel Magnolias and The Gabby Douglas Story.
Besides a tribute to the network’s past, the marathon is a nod to its future. Last summer, under new A+E Networks CEO Paul Buccieri, Lifetime made a change in its programming strategy, putting emphasis back on original movies and using them as backdoor pilots over traditional series development.
The network signaled its renewed push in original movies last August when it announced a 2019 slate of 75 films.
“It’s gotten so much higher than that,” said Lifetime veteran Tanya Lopez, Evp, Movies, Limited Series & Original Movie Acquisitions. “I wouldn’t say that we’re doubling that but we’re definitely increasing them.” (The count includes both originals and acquisitions.)

Chicago – In the history of America, there are moments when champions rose above their societal status and circumstance. And so it came to pass that African American Jesse Owens – during one of most difficult times in America for blacks – won medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, representing America and striking a blow against Adolf Hitler, four years before WWII. Owen’s story is told in the new film, “Race,” and he is portrayed by actor Stephan James.
Life in Depression-era America was difficult for all citizens at the time, but never more so than the black population. Emerging from those times was James Cleveland “Jesse” Owens (Stephan James), a track athlete of extraordinary talent. He was called first to represent Ohio University, under the tutelage of Coach Larry Snyder (Jason Sudeikis). The coach molded Owen’s raw talent and soon he broke several world records. Lifetime’s Gabby Douglas biopic scored 3.8 million viewers Saturday – a strong showing for the cable net but falling short of the network’s previous two weeks’ worth of Saturday movies starring an ax murderess and siblings locked in an attic. That said, The Gabby Douglas Story, about the Olympic gold medalist who become the first African American to be named individual all-around champion in artistic gymnastics at the Olympic Games, was the most tweeted program of the night across all of television, excluding sports, according to Nielsen SocialGuide. Two weeks earlier, Lifetime’s unveiling of Flowers In The Attic, based on the V.C. Andrews novel of same name and about siblings locked in an attic by their mother and even worse grandparents, logged 6.1 million viewers, which was ad-supported cable’s most watched original movie since November 2012. Lifetime already has ordered the sequel, Petals On The Wind. The following week, Lizzie...

With the 2014 Winter Olympics just a week away, and Feb. 1 marking the official start of Black History Month, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect for the premiere of The Gabby Douglas Story, Lifetime’s biopic of the first African-American to win the title of Individual All-Around Champion in artistic gymnastics.
Gabby Douglas’ Lifetime Movie: Our Review
Gabby Douglas has handled her time in the spotlight with as much grace and poise as she shows on the gymnastics floor, and Lifetime’s look at her personal journey revealed why that is.

Lifetime debuted "The Gabby Douglas Story" Saturday (Feb. 1), which chronicled gymnast Gabrielle Douglas' childhood and rise in the world of gymnastics. Her journey may have culminated in winning the women's all-around gold medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, but the movie focused on Douglas and her family overcoming hardships so that she could work to be the best.
"The movie is about the struggles and challenges I went through. I've already written a book about it, but reading it isn't the same as seeing it," Douglas tells Teen Vogue. "I want people to watch this and say, 'Wow. She went through that, so whatever I'm going through, I can overcome it too.'"
"What I went through -- what my whole family went through -- it made us stronger people. I learned to 'walk in love' and believe the situation would turn out Ok," adds Douglas.

Gabby Douglas' fans will get an inside look at her road to the 2012 Olympics tonight. The 19-year-old Olympic gymnast's biopic, The Gabby Douglas Story, which airs on Lifetime, follows Gabby (played by Imani Hakim and Sydney Mikayla) as she overcomes life struggles and later becomes part of the "Fierce Five" at the 2012 Olympics. The TV movie also reveals Douglas' mother's own financial issues, as she tried to keep up with the cost of Gabby's gymnastics career and caring for her three other children. Regina King also stars in the biopic as Douglas' mother, saying she spent hours on the phone with Douglas' mother to prepare for production, when she appeared on Today with...

Nothing goes better with a cheesy Lifetime biopic than, 1) actual cheese, and 2) wine — preferably, lots of it. But somehow, guzzling empty calories while watching tiny teenagers perform astonishing feats of athleticism just seems wrong… especially when one of those tiny teens is the real Gabby Douglas, who does stunt work for her celluloid doppelganger Imani Hakim in The Gabby Douglas Story. (The film’s competition scenes also feature actual footage of Douglas’s professional triumphs.)
The solution? Instead of watching Gabby in awe and envy while you stuff your face, take the film’s debut as an opportunity to get your sweat on.

Tomorrow, Lifetime will air The Gabby Douglas Story, a heart-tugging film about the 16-year-old gymnast who moved far away from her family and trained her whole life to become the 2012 All-Around Olympic champion. This is wonderful for Gabby Douglas, who was endearing and triumphed and certainly deserves her own very cheesy biopic. But you know who else deserves a cheesy biopic? The many Olympians listed below. Make them all, Hollywood! We deserve inspiring human-interest stories every year — not just during the Olympics. Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov (figure skaters, 1998, 1994) should get a … biopic. But like a really weepy, Nicholas Sparks–style biopic, because this story (spoiler alert) is devastating. Short version: Gordeeva and Grinkov met as teenagers; they skated for the Ussr; they fell in love, got married, had a baby, won the gold medal in Lillehammer in 1994, and then … Sergei collapsed on the ice...

Hoping to capitalize on Sochi Winter Olympics hype, Lifetime's The Gabby Douglas Story takes us back two years to the Summer Olympics in London. There, a 17-year-old Gabby Douglas won the gold medal for the individual all-around, and then another gold with her "Fierce Five" American teammates for the team all-around. The movie chronicles the young athlete's meteoric rise thanks to her natural talent, good coaching and the sacrifices of her family. It's a heartwarming story, but the movie's rote, linear take on what is such an incredible accomplishment doesn't quite stick its landing. The most
