Great storyline
georgebanister6 May 2020
As a gambler myself, I really get into this series. The story is good. Animation is good, overall layout is good. I hope there will be 5 seasons.

I just wish they would hurry up and settle the legal problem very very soon, although I never get tjred of rewatching series 1.

8 episodes in, but I am thoroughly impressed.
MarkyMarkus24 May 2014
I was really surprised by this anime. I wasn't expecting much from it, but its funny and surprisingly smart. With five episodes left, unless they just completely drop the ball, this is easily is one of my favorites of this season.

So, whats it about? The anime is about a brother and sister, Sora and Shiro, who are NEETs and experts at games. I mean they are literally the best in the world. The get transported to another world where games are how everything gets done. No war, murder, crimes, just games. Naturally they fit right in.

What makes this show great is the characters. The main duo is great. They are awkward but also extremely cocky. The princess Steph is also great and its funny how the brother and sister treat her. The show has a great sense of humor and I find myself laughing pretty hard quite often.

I said it was smart. Yeah, when they play games, you can really see the gears in their heads turning, trying to figure out how to beat opponents that should be superior to them. It never feels like a dues ex machina is what finishes the game. You really feel like the are extremely smart and cunning.

At first, I wasn't digging the designs, but really quickly I warmed up to it. The style feels like fantasy meets Las Vegas, which makes sense, considering the world is based on gambling. So yeah, I really like it. The girls are also very cute and the reaction faces are great. The OP and ED are very good as well. The presentation is great.

I guess its worth mentioning that it has a decent amount of fanservice. If you don't like fanservice, I personally don't think it will be too distracting... but I'm not the best judge of that. Just try to look past it if you think it might bother you.

All in all, I really like this anime and its one of the better ones this season. Check it out!

EDIT: Follow up after seeing episode twelve. While I will still leave the score the same because my enjoyment for it never waiver, I will admit that at times it falls victim to the Gambitroulette trope. That is, it almost a bit too incredible what they can pull off. Doesn't change much though, I still really liked it.

That's it?
vampiresrule3475 December 2021
It didn't really end. The show ended as if there was another season. From what I know there's only the movie no game no life zero. The short as a whole was OK it was very interesting to watch them play games. The match between Imanity and the Warbeasts were especially entertaining. I heard about this anime series through Tiktok, they hyped it up so much on there, but honestly I am underwhelmed. That's so isn't very serious it's very comical and full of ecchi and that's ok if you are into that. This just wasn't what I was expecting, the way this series was hyped I thought it would be more than just harem and ecchi. This genre paired with the fact that they didn't fight "god" leaves the eating at a "7". I may not have loved it, but it's likable and maybe this anime is for you.

Colorful Show
abraradityap2 January 2021
Actually, i REALLY enjoyed this show. It's really colorful, makes it fun to watch anytime. Don't forget about the 'characters', well, they're also great and stuff, but sometimes i just got bored (maybe it's just me). But, overall, it is AMAZING. I still can't be able to imagine how the games are made- it's so well-made! Smart and tricky, makes me fell like i'm actually inside the game. :D I'd love to watch the movie.

It's really fun, amazing animation and funny characters. There's a lot of strategy. If you like concept of games, adventure and isekai, then you would love the anime. The main characters are really smart and strategic. The artwork is very amazing and colorful.I am a bit sad about the ending because It's a open ending so I really want to see season 2 but I think that's not gonna happen .There is a slim possibilty they will decide to make a second season, beacuse the fanbase pretty big and I don't watch the film yet but I heard the film is good too.I enjoy the show very much. This anime must watch because of the thrilling story and comedy.

Nogemu Noraifu - Different and Fun
Cafelar11 December 2019
Initially a simple plot, based on simple games and sibling genius, but over the course of the episodes becomes a bit more complex, involving salvation of the human race and competition between races for power. It's a great anime, it gets a little lost putting a bigger goal in script, but it's still a fun adventure to watch.

Perfect in it's genre
ahmedjoni28 July 2019
Small summary: The story is about Sora and his sister Shiro who are two of the best videogamers in the world. They suddenly get invited to play a game of chess and they accept. As Shiro never lost a game of chess in her life she defeats the player. It turned out to be the god of games, who gives them an option to leave their current world to live it out in a fantasy world where everything runs on games. Even political problems get solved by playing games instead of using violence.

My opinion: I really enjoyed watching this show. The story isn't that spectactular, but it's so funny to watch. Each episode made me laugh which made me want to watch more. Sadly they have canceled season 2. There is a slim possibility they will decide to make a second season, because the fanbase is pretty big and the movie did really good as well.

A very good concept and development but does not have time to exploit
yoigomovistar4 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first chapters are very interesting and the ideas of the games already known but modifying them to make it more interesting at a visual level, such as the example of chess with the pawns that do not want to die, trying to make it more realistic and visual. As well as the rest of the games they present and their resolutions. Unfortunately, at the moment in which it seems that it is going to explode and the good things are going to come, the series is canceled.

Yeah just not for me bro...
Irishchatter16 February 2019
Thought this animes art was too blinding, the brother irritates me by acting like such a controlling freak of his little sister and the little sisters voice was just urgh so deafening!

Some of ya might think these are just pathetic excuses from me to not like the anime. However this is my personal opinion and if any of you like it, thats totally fine. I honestly did want to like it but it just didn't match up my own personal tastes!

A thing of beauty
cheetos009910 August 2014
I was the type of anime viewer who mostly watched shonen-series like Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, etc. Recently I've branched out and have begun trying out other genres. Boy did No Game No Life impress me.

The story revolves around a sibling pair, Sora and Shiro, who call themselves "Blank." Working together, they've never lost at any game thrown at them. One day, they're taken to a world that suits them perfectly: a world centered around the concept of games.

Whereas shonen animes define "epicness" as intense action sequences involving fantastic displays of power, this show gives the word another meaning entirely. Many of the games that the characters engage in are a battle of wits, requiring complete knowledge of the rules and demanding clever manipulation of their opponents. Often we find ourselves wondering HOW, rather than IF the protagonists will win, seeing as they are this fearsome pair.

I do wish that more attention was given to the younger sister, Shiro. She's supposed to complement her older brother, yet he often outshines her. Many times Sora is shown as the mastermind behind everything when we know that Shiro is every bit as talented as he is. Another point that needs to be addressed is the explanation component of games. The pace needs to be slowed at these points, or else audiences will feel enthralled merely because of the exciting soundtrack and a general epic sensation. We can only truly admire these prodigies by understanding exactly what feat it was they just pulled off, which is hard to do when explanations are whizzing by lightning-fast.

Other than that, the voice acting, art style, premise, soundtrack, humor, and much more all coalesce to form one gripping anime you can't get enough of. If you're looking for a lighthearted yet awe-inspiring anime, look no further.

Amazing Anime! Very Unqiue
mercfma10 July 2015
What a great show!! I can't wait for them to make the next season! No Game No Life is such a fun and extremely well thought out show, the concept is so basic and straight forward that you don't think it could be portrayed so well. If your looking for something amazing to just take you out of this world on a fun, funny, amazing journey then your going to love this show. The main characters are great, they're both shut-in genius's with great memorable personalities. The artwork & character design is amazing, this show gave me a real "Alice in Wonderland" feel. I felt completely immersed in this fantasy, colorful, amazing world from the first 5 minutes! and that feeling followed through all the way until the very last second of the show! The sound tracks for this show were awesome! Definitely some of the most epic soundtracks I've heard from any show.

5/5 Why Perfect? Cause i couldn't think of anything to lessen the value, It made me laugh, feel for the characters in such a short period of time, it was intelligent and caused me to think on a multitude of occasions. I really have high hopes for the continuation of this series, i'm sure anyone reading this will love it too!!

Amazing - close to a masterpiece
hardmanx16 April 2019
The story is absolutely amazing and unique because conflict is resolved through games. There is some action which is presented greatly. If you like the concept of games and adventure and isekai ,then you would love the anime. The Mc is really smart and strategic. This is not a masterpiece because the character development is quite minor because Mc is overpowered from the start and first episode is hard to digest. This anime is a must watch because of the thrilling story and comedy.

Major !! potential but to soon to tell.
Miloschouten29 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
No game, No life has a rather weird description but It's really worth watching and has a huge potential! The story is about two siblings who are hardcore gamers and are known as the Blank players. Legend says that they have never been beaten in ANY game, Chess, Online football, online MMO, shooters nothing. One day they receive a mysterious email about If they ever felt that the world they lived in wasn't where they belonged. The siblings agreed and suddenly teleported into a new world where the God stated that their be no War no Violence and no theft and that everything had to be solved with a game, their are a total of 16 races and Humans are known to be the least powerful up till now perhaps? No game no Life is a comedy/action/adventure/intellectual anime. The drawing style is very modern and looks rather well, similar to SAO or perhaps strike blood. The storyline is to early to say but I have to admit that I have never loved characters of an anime so quickly and that I was laughing on the floor most of the episodes I watched I truly recommend trying it out yourself!

🍬Shiro & Sora Find Their Candyland🍭 VG 7.5
50fiftillidideeBrain16 June 2022
NGNL is about a nerd paradise where gamers RULE. That's because everything in World Disboard is won through games.

Back on earth, gamers are atwitter over a player they've dubbed "Blank". Blank has taken over the top few spots in all the hot games, they complain in wonder. This gamer has never filled in any user name, thus the title.

First, lets meet our protags: Sora - 18, & younger sis, Shiro - 11. As the show opens, these urban troglodytes are in their cave. Multiple monitors, set to night-time dim, provide weak resistance against the enveloping shadows. Viewers can almost smell stale Calbee Chips & Doritos: These kids don't get out enough.

We'll learn that this duo is Blank, and they act as 1 person. Together they are unbeatable. While they are both strong, each has strengths that compliment the other perfectly. If Sora doesn't have the record, Shiro does. They've just wrapped up another impressive record when we first gaze on these masters. Sora wants to play again, but Shiro says she has to get some rest and eat something - or she'll never grow. As if he didn't hear her, Sora just complains: 'It's difficult it is to play 4 accounts at once; he'll have to use his foot'. Shiro, who always speaks with emotionless economy, replies uninterestedly: "You can do it." That encapsulates their life: Always together, they game. Period.

This is when they receive an odd challenge to an online chess match. Soon it becomes obvious that their competition knows h/h way around a gameboard. It was, perhaps, their toughest match. They do pull out a victory, though. You see, Sora never loses, we're told, & Shiro never loses at chess. Never. The moment the match is decided in their favor, they are offered the chance to visit their opponent's world. Thinking it's all in fun, they agree. No time to celebrate, to their disoriented amazement, the surroundings change around them. They've really been transported to another world! They had defeated Tet, the god of play. He says his world, Disboard, is the place for them! It looks like Tet may want a rematch, too.

Everything in Disboard is decided by games, Tet hurriedly explains. Any contender can take the crown via a successful game challenge. A country can lay down a contest for lands or holdings. Disboard is bound by Tet's spell of the 10 pledges. Invasions, violence, or merely harming others is prohibited in Disboard. Disputes are settled by games as naturally and immutably as rain falls from the sky: It's absolutely foundational in dis world.

Games!? YOWZA! Geeks in Paradise! "I'm game!" They each exclaim. When their feet meet the ground, they walk toward civilization and find a bustling inn. Before entering, they take a seat at the 1st table on the porch and briskly make a withdrawal from the ATM (poker player) they find, via a successful round. Quick cash in hand, they enter the inn to start scope & assess recon. One interaction leads to another, and soon they've met the princess.

The princess is in the throes of shock and horror. She was challenged for the crown and lost. A new leader is about to be coronated. Sora looks at Shiro, and muses out loud that he thinks, perhaps, he wants to be king: If Princess Stephanie can't beat the challenger, he'll do it for her.

We learn, before long, that Sora's endgame is to defeat Tet and become THE GOD of Disboard. He will have to conquer Disboard first, including every country and faction, of which there are many. Each culture has its skills and gaming secrets painstakingly hidden away. Each presents its distinct challenges. We'll have to read the Manga to find out about that, though, because NGNL is only 1 season of 12 Eps that comprise a full story loop that could be considered "Part 1" of their journey.

That's how the pieces are set on dis board for the balance of the show to play out.

NGNL is silly at times in typical anime fashion, such as the pervy junior highish jokes for the Panty Peepin Boobie Brothers. I know, some of you are thinking: "Aight! Count me in!" It's menz-a-menz for me - not my poison. NGNL, doesn't overdo it. It mostly centerpieces snappy logic and lofty stratagems as it's main dish. Everything comes together for 12 fun episodes.

They do pick on Princess Stephanie alot. She's written as a bimbo, and she's mostly condescended to by the hi IQ sibs. From what can be gleaned about the rest of the story, her character has a steady growth arc in the subsequent chapters. She'll never rise to S+S's level, but she develops solid skills. They may belittle her in these 12 episodes, but they aren't using her, and they won't abandon her. Sure, slapping Sora seems like it would be gratifying at times, but, hey! It's just a running joke in a 'cartoon' - a pretty good 'toon' at that. Anyone who blows their top b/c an anime features a bimbo: 1. Will appear more cartoonish then Sora, and 2. Probably shouldn't bother watching anime at all. It's critical to keep a sense or humor, or the joke's on you.

Sora and Shiro's relationship is unique. They are step-sibs. We get who Sora is rather quickly, but Shiro's character is rolled out gradually. She actually has the higher IQ of the duo. The two bonded almost immediately, upon becoming step-sibs when she was 3. By the start of the show they operate as two halves of a whole. Their trust is absolute. They barely need to communicate; One already knows what the other's thinking. They cannot stand to be separated. They even share a bed. While that might seem odd to Westerners, it's traditionally not uncommon for Asian families to sleep in one room, often due to space constraints. Their relationship is innocent, and quite cute. Their refusal to separate is clearly due to the fact that they've spent their lives holed up together in a bedroom full of monitors. The dynamic between the duo is one of the best things about the show. Shiro is an awesome character. This miniature old soul is stoic and she seems more mature than Sora. Maybe that's because he's crackin the jokes.

The animation is a refreshingly bright palette, much the colors of candy. Shiro and a librarian, both who've lived an indoor life, are colored as ghostlike in pale lavender, like fish in the waters of deep caves. It's the details that show the 💘.

Cognitive intimacy is what propels them safely through some tense situations. Their coordination is more refined then a team of high-end grifters. Their interlocking logical acuity makes the show. The last contest, against the Kingdom of the Warbeasts, is a bonifide thrill. ("I have to get to all those hot animal women!" says Sora. "Hopefully your won't always be a virgin," agrees Shiro).

QUOTE People who are content are just an urban legend anyway.

one of the best animes i've seen in a while
nickom-5130820 December 2015
Its refreshingly brilliant this anime is addicting ones you watch it you are hooked, not only is it funny ecci and brilliantly done but its also the plot is interesting the concept of a real fantasy world where almost everything is led by the 10 rules which one must follow at all times. how can we not want to watch this over and over. One disappointment is that there's no manga tho the manga is very outdated and they just release those novels That's definitely a bummer so lets all work together to get it back on the map who can contact the creator of this anime to get it back on the map it would help us get it alive Basically a sequel is a must!

Amazing characters!!!
littleriver-6525218 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The plot of the series in my opinion was very simple, but the characters were extremely unique for me. The two main characters come off as a couple of shut-in gamers, but they are in fact both geniuses which makes it all the more interesting. This anime could be considered an isekai anime considering that they end up going to another world where games are the main determining factor in what happens. It's interesting to learn about each character and their unique personalities, and watch them as they work against what you would consider all odds to come out on top and dominate the world of games.

Awesome!
aubreyyh8 May 2020
I loved how many games are shown in this series, such as blackjack, poker face, etc. A world resolved by games! And tone it down with the dislike of fan-service and disservice. I understand about Shiro despite her being 11 years of age, but come on, I've seen WORSE fan-service than this. The Akiba's trip show being a huge example of THAT. So... screw Akiba and props to this!

I think no game no life is inappropriate, it promotes pëdophilës + it has a nice line.

The series is suitable for an elderly virgin age audience who has never touched a girl and gets turned on by an 11-year-old girl loli.
