Mumbai, Feb 19 (Ians) Actor Navneet Mallik, who is currently portraying the lead character of Sumedh in the show ‘Aankh Micholi’, has enacted a scene that is similar to Ayushmann Khurrana’s sequence in his 2015 movie ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’.
The scene was an integral plot point in the show, wherein Navneet’s character Sumedh picks up his onscreen mother played by actress Bhakti Rathod and run a race.
Navneet picking up Rathod will certainly remind the audience of Ayushman picking up Bhumi Pednekar in ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’.
In the movie, Ayushmann, who plays the role of Prem shoulders the weight of his wife Sandhya (Bhumi) and wins the race.
Talking about the same, Navneet said: “I am certain there will be comparisons. Ayushmann was iconic in that scene and we have tried our best to make it different. Such race sequences are widely appreciated, so we aimed to maintain the authenticity of our setting.

There is a visible dearth of chick flicks, and more so, films that celebrate woman and womanhood happen few and far between. ‘Thank You For Coming’ is one such film with a gang of girls who smash the patriarchy and share such a bond that they talk about everything – life, life-partners, individual problems and so much more. For the uninitiated, the pun in the title might be a hint for the audience, especially the extrovert females, about a sense of what they can expect – female friendships, relationships, marriage, dating, sex, orgasms, et al.
Tyfc (Thank You For Coming) opens up about men getting wrong or rather misunderstood thinking women don’t have needs at all. It seldom occurs to them that women too, crave for sexual pleasures.

Toronto Film Festival gala presentation “Thank You for Coming” is that rarity – a Bollywood sex comedy that also serves as a patriarch-bashing women empowerment tale.
Bhumi Pednekar stars as Kanika Kapoor, a Delhi food blogger and serial monogamist, who has spent her adult life seeking a satisfying love match, both emotionally and physically, but has never had an orgasm. The morning after her engagement to a dull suitor, she wakes up satisfied, but can’t remember who’s responsible.
The film is written by two women, Radhika Anand (“Broken But Beautiful”) and stand up comic Prashasti Singh and directed by a man, Karan Boolani, making his feature directing debut. Boolani previously directed series “24: India” for Viacom18’s Colors channel and Netflix’s “Selection Day.”

Romantic comedies never go out of style. Especially in the Hindi cinema space, we have been exposed to countless films in this genre, so much so that this whole genre has cultivated another subgenre, romantic comedies based in small towns in our country. Only a handful of them clicked with the audience. Bareilly ki Barfi, Badhaai Ho, Sui Dhaga, and Dum Laga ke Haisha are some examples of well-executed romantic comedies set in rural India where the essence was never lost. Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal a Prime Video Original, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, brings to the table the tale of two people with two different opinions about life who cross paths through their marriage.
Bawaal, loosely translated to chaos, is about Lucknow-based Ajay Dixit, fondly known as ‘Ajju bhaiyya.’ He is a young, dashing history teacher at a local school who is so caught up in building his...

April 20, 2022 marks exactly a decade since Ayushmann Khurrana, Bollywood’s most successful thematic risk taking actor, debuted in the film industry.
Ten years ago today is when Khurrana debuted with “Vicky Donor,” in which he played a sperm donor. Starting from then, he has made a point of playing diverse characters, and each of them have been box-office successes.
These include playing a man who suffers from erectile dysfunction in “Shubh Mangal Savdhan” (2017); an alopecia sufferer in “Bala” (2019); an out and proud gay man in “Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan” (2020) and a macho gym instructor who finds out that his fiancée used to be a man and has undergone gender reassignment surgery in “Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui” (2021).
While these roles obviously fly in the face of traditional Bollywood macho stereotypes, Khurrana’s other role choices have also been unusual by the industry’s mainstream standards. These include playing a piano player who...

Mumbai, March 23 (Ians) From playing an overweight girl in "Dum Laga Ke Haisha" to a character battling patriarchy in "Sonchiriya", actress Bhumi Pednekar says she refuses to abide by the image of the quintessential Bollywood actress.
Bhumi adds that she wants to change the way people think about women through these roles.
"For many, it has always been about the outer physical beauty. But gone are those days when people were concerned (about only that). My thing was that it doesn't matter. I am going to change your definition of what a quintessential Hindi film female actor is all about," she says.
She adds: "We are all in this profession -- the idea is to perform all these different parts and be part of these amazing stories that move people, bring about a change. That is exactly what I am going to do."

Mumbai, Feb 28 (Ians) Actor Ayushmann Khurrana credits his films Vicky Donor and Dum Laga Ke Haisha for triggering his journey to stardom.
"The success of Vicky Donor and then Dum Laga Ke Haisha told me that the audience wanted to have a different experience in the theatre and that their taste was changing. They wanted to have a different form of engagement at the movies. They wanted to have a conversation, have a debate and take back an uplifting message home," said Ayushmann.
He says such films have been the voice of his beliefs and sensibilities, and have enabled him to "write my own destiny in this industry".
"I never looked back after Dum Laga Ke Haisha and so, it will always be a super special one for my career, for my life. It bolstered my belief that I was on the right path of selecting films that spark a conversation.

Mumbai, Feb 27 (Ians) Bhumi Pednekar is currently shooting for Badhaai Do in Rishikesh, where she shot for her first film, the 2015 release Dum Laga Ke Haisha, six years ago. She says her debut film will always be a milestone in her life and she cannot imagine how her career would have shaped up without it.
"Dum Laga Ke Haisha is truly a milestone moment of my life and I can't imagine how my career would have shaped up without it," she said.
She said it is a coincidence that she was shooting at the very same location for her upcoming film.

Mumbai, Nov 19 (Ians) Actress Bhumi Pednekar prefers to be part of entertaining projects that leave a message for the audience.
"My film should entertain, but at the same time it does seek to leave the audience with a thought that will hopefully change their thinking for the better. Most of my films have had heavy social messaging but even if you think of a film like 'Pati Patni Aur Woh', which was an out-and-out entertainer, you know the film clearly tells you that you don't have to succumb to societal pressures of marriage. Staying in a marriage is as much a woman's choice too," Bhumi explained.
