Easily the best of the season!

Warning: Spoilers
There is no doubt in saying: the third season has been unimpressive. "Death of a Detective" and "Political Suicide" were good, but not great. "Ye of Little Faith", "The Man with the Golden Gun", "The Early Bird" enjoyable enough. "An Artistic Murder" was okay and "The Wrong Man" almost awful. It was nice to see: the third season ends on a high note with "Rue Morgue".

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are wonderful as usual. The episode looks and sounds great. The acting's very good all around. I liked Joanna David and Phil Davis the most.

. The story is hugely compelling with red herrings, clever twists and turns, welcome humor and a solution (Look out for Judith, she is the killer!), which was very satisfying. The subplot about DI Goodman's wife felt relevant to the plot as well.

But....

. I would have liked if Michele Dotrice and Philip Jackson would have had a bigger role in this episode. They felt more like vessels to get the plot moving at times.

. Also, the humor about Goodman's clumsiness does not work all the time.

Overall, a very good episode.

What a cast.

Warning: Spoilers
Humphrey has to investigate the death of Emma Redding, a retired Surgeon, now a resident of a retirement home. Humphrey has the added complication of the arrival of his ex wife Sally. Humphrey suspects one of Emma's fellow residents.

Death in Paradise is always entertaining, it's light and fun, without forcing massive concentration, this particular episode however goes a little deeper, and that I put down to the array of talent. The likes of Phil Davies, Joanna David, Michelle District etc showcase the wealth of mature talent the UK is fortunate to have. The quality cast combine to make for what I'd class as an excellent episode, also arguably Kris Marshall's best episode to date, strong in the role, I wasn't altogether a fan initially, but I've grown to really like him.

The mystery itself is good, but the cast are excellent. 9/10

Humphrey, Camille and Sally too

Warning: Spoilers
Sally Goodman, played by Morven "Grantchester" Christie appears in the flesh to patch things up with Humphrey. Humphrey obviously has mixed feelings about this, given Sally dumped him by voicemail in the first episode of season 3 of this fine series.

However, Humphrey has feelings for Camille. Actually more than feelings, telling Fidel that he loves her. This is huge and says something about inter-office romance and so on.

The murder plot surrounds Dr Emma Redding, a retired surgeon living in a Saint Marie retirement home in Saint Marie. The retirement home resembles a hotel resort (it may have been filmed in a hotel resort). Phil Davies makes an appearance as one of the retirees, and he was impressive in the British legal drama North Square, where he played clerk to chambers. Phil has an eerie resemblance to Gary Busey, and if there's ever a Busey biopic, Phil would have first dibs on the role.
