Violence & Gore
-
- Cartoonish and whimsical fantasy violence. No blood or gore. Hitting certain non-enemy characters results in a rubber squeaking sound. Battles consist of hitting characters just flash red. No death or dismemberment, except for one scene, see spoiler section for details.
Profanity
-
- Some mild insults: fool, loser
- Upon meeting Hat Kid in Subcon Forest, the Snatcher says to her, "You blew it! You totally screwed yourself!"
- The Conductor often says "peck" and "peck neck" as an insult. "Peck" could be thought of as the A Hat in Time equivalent of the F word.
- Uses of "heck"
- In mafia town there's a sight that says booming idiots.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- A casino that Hat Kid can enter is featured in Mafia Town. Gambling machines are present, although they cannot be used.
- In the Seal the Deal DLC chapter The Arctic Cruise, the Conductor from Battle of the Birds can be found at the bar on the cruise ship, and it is strongly implied that he is drinking alcoholic beverages.
- The captain of the cruise ship in the Seal the Deal DLC Arctic Cruise smokes a cigar.

Spoilers
Violence & Gore
- Murder on the Owl Express has you solve a murder mystery where it looks like an owl has been brutally murdered and lays in a pool of blood. If you choose yourself as the killer the conductor makes some rather gruesome accusations. The owl is later revealed to have faked his death as you were just making a movie, while the "blood" is revealed to be just ketchup.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- The Subcon Forest world is a gloomy dark and haunted place. A large pumpkin ghost taunts you and forces you to sign your soul away. Queen Vanessa's manor has a dark ghostly figure stalk you with loud intense sounds when she's present. Reading diary entries shows a disturbed and jealous princess with violent tendencies.
- The second and third parts of the final boss fight against Mustache Girl, in which reality seems to have been altered and some characters sacrifice themselves for Hat Kid, could be pretty intense for some children.
