Since it was initially announced back in April, we haven't heard much about Fox's reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. That silence was broken today, though, when Fox announced that Laverne Cox (Orange Is the New Black, The Mindy Project) will play Dr. Frank-n-Furter in the reimagining of the midnight movie, stepping into the heels of the role immortalized by Tim Curry over 40 years ago.
Set to debut next fall on Fox, the two-hour reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be directed, executive produced, and choreographed by Kenny Ortega (Hocus Pocus, High School Musical). Laverne Cox is the first casting announcement made for the project, which is also executive produced by Lou Adler, who backed the original film. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for further updates. We have the official press release with full details, below:

Laverne Cox is a proud, strong (and beautiful) face of the transgender movement today, but she's the first to admit that "courageous" hasn't always been the go-to word she'd use to describe herself.
"As a black transgender woman, I've always felt unsafe," Cox told People at Orange Is the New Black's OrangeCon event in New York City on Thursday.
"I grew up in lots of violence. I call it bullying, but it's really violence. I've been kicked on the street before," the actress and transgender advocate said.
Cox, 31, continued, "I took the subway for the first time in a while the other day,...

The first season of Netflix's acclaimed prison dramedy Orange Is the New Black was marked by its breakout ensemble cast, but few of its overnight stars have done as much with their newfound fame as Laverne Cox, a trans actress who has become one of the faces of the transgender movement. Speaking to People at the Opportunity Agenda's Creative Change Awards, Cox discussed her activism and gave a hint of what fans can expect from her character in the show's upcoming second season, which premieres June 6. "We see different sides of Sophia that we didn't see in season one," she explained.

I think it’s safe to say that actress and trans advocate Laverne Cox is having a moment. Last year millions of bingewatchers came to know and love Cox through her role as prison hairdresser Sophia Burset on the acclaimed (and addictive) Orange is the New Black, which returns soon with a highly-anticipated second season.
But her moving and brave performance on Oitnb (in which Cox’s real-life twin brother plays her in flashbacks) is but one of Cox’s many accomplishments. There was her role in a sweet little romcom called Musical Chairs, where she played a trans woman in a wheelchair who joins a wheelchair ballroom dancing team (check out the clip below for more). She has also become a figurehead in the trans awareness movement, speaking with clarity and passion at countless conferences and events on the topic, and memorably giving Katie Couric some measured guidance on...
