After last weekends box office opening of $122 million, ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ had a strong second weekend earning an estimated $56 million. Ragnarok’s domestic total now sits at $211 million, its foreign total at $438 million, bringing its total box office intake $650 million after just two weeks after its release. Not too bad. Not too bad at all.
Ragnarok’s main competition this weekend were the releases of ‘Daddy’s Home 2‘ and ‘Murder on the Orient Express‘. It was widely expected Thor: Ragnarok would once again top the box office, but second place was the spot up for grabs.
In a tight race for second, The Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg comedy ‘Daddy’s Home 2’ was able to top ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ earning an estimated $30 million. 2015’s ‘Daddy’s Home ‘was a box office smash, opening with $38 million and finishing with a worldwide total $242 million.
‘Murder on the Orient Express’ finished closely behind with an estimated $28 million.

With A Bad Moms Christmas now in cinemas. it seems there are plans for Bad Moms 3 and beyond...
Arriving in UK cinemas today is A Bad Moms Christmas, the fast-turnaround sequel to last year’s sleeper hit, Bad Moms. The film brings back the core cast, led by Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn. Also back for the sequel are directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
Press screenings have been thin on the ground for this one, as they were for last week’s Jigsaw. But Lucas and Moore seem confident in their film, and are hinting at many more adventures to come. As Lucas said on the red carpet for the movie, “there have been eight Fast & Furious movies. You can only make a movie this quickly if everyone is on the same page. The cast and crew were so good. Steven Soderbergh’s “Logan Lucky” opened to $7.6 million this weekend, well short of its tracking and good for only #3 on the worst summer weekend in two years. This, despite a cast full of draws like Daniel Craig and Channing Tatum, strong reviews, a distribution team of A players, and (overhyped) coverage of its would-be groundbreaking marketing and release plan.
As it turned out, those elements contributed to a complex set of factors that resulted in this meh of a weekend.
Here’s some key ones:
“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” Got in the Way
Studios largely abandoned August, a month that in recent years saw “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Suicide Squad” thrive. Enter Lionsgate, which knows how to find opportunistic dates for its genre films. In this case, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” overlapped some of what “Logan Lucky” had to offer, and offered greater appeal.

The first photo of Beyoncé and Jay-Z‘s twins dropped in the early hours of Friday morning. And as expected, the Bey Hive swarmed the Internet with glee.
“Sir Carter and Rumi 1 month today,” the songstress, 35, captioned an image on Instagram – holding the tiny tots while wearing a Palomo Spain ensemble in a shot that evoked the same themes as the stunning maternity photo she and her rapper husband used for their double baby announcement in February.
Besides it being their first public photo, Beyoncé’s post was also the first time the names of her twins were officially confirmed.

A lot of great TV horror movies rely on a final image, a real shocker, to hammer home the fear. But not all of them. When Michael Calls (1972) is a telefilm that measures out its chills, leading to a logical conclusion (for a small screen sinner) instead of an iconic screen shot for nostalgic viewers. Regardless, this one provides a platform for a solid thriller with a pedigree behind and in front of the camera.
Originally broadcast on Saturday, February 5th, as the ABC Movie of the Weekend, When Michael Calls had the normal competition from CBS’ New Dick Van Dyke Show/Mary Tyler Moore Show and NBC’s Saturday Night at the Movies. But ABC’s Movies of the Week (on Tuesday’s, and here) almost always won out with viewers, providing exciting, original fare. This one is no exception.

It should have come as no surprise that a dramatisation of England under Nazi rule would be a massive bummer—as premises go, it’s hardly puppies at the circus—but lord, that was a slog.
After four interminable weeks of watching Douglas Archer do little more than set his jaw against the wretched state of things, the finale failed to significantly raise SS-gb’s game. It was by far the most gripping episode of the lot, but still felt as inessential and unsatisfying as everything it preceded. There was no victory for Archer, no...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
As expected, Labor Day weekend wasn’t good for the two new wide releases at all, although the romantic drama The Light Between Oceans (DreamWorks), starring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, ended up doing far better of the two. Also as expected, Fede Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe (Screen Gems) won the weekend with a four-day total of $19.7 million, a little less than I predicted. The Light Between Oceans ended up with slightly over $6 million, roughly the same as my original prediction but 20th Century Fox’s thriller Morgan, starring Kate Mara, bomb-bomb-bombed with a ridiculously bad four-day opening of just $2.5 million in its first four days. The Mexican comedy No Manches Frida (Lionsgate/Pantelion) ended up faring better in just 362 theaters,...
