Not great, but still one of the more fun editions

Warning: Spoilers
Here we got the "AVN Awards 2014" and this means of course that these were basically the Oscars adult film industry. Again they took place at the Hard C/Rock Hotel in Vegas. What I watched ran for 82 minutes only and that also includes over ten minutes red-carepet footage (including an interviewer that reminded me a bit of Kaley Cuoco) before it actually started. I mean they took this show and cut it a bit afterwards, so could be that the actual ceremony was considerably longer. There were AVN Awards in the past that ran for 2.5 hours (without commercials), so yeah this one here from six to seven years ago is certainly among the shortest out there. Like almost always with recent editions, there also seems to be a massive gap between when this took place and when it was on television. It was held in mid-January and almost took until June for it to be on national television. Pretty unacceptable like come on. Best is if award shows are live, but if not, then it really should not be more than several days in-between. I mean people do not care too much here, at least not as much as with the Oscars, Golden Globes etc. (the girls on the photo also have some golden globes, that much is safe), but it is pretty disrespectful to the people feature on the show here I would say. Anyway, as for the basics, the director, executive producer and one of many writers here is Gary Miller and with or without the D. (no pun intended!) he is quite an institution when it comes to making these shows. He started way back in the 90s already and has still been on board for the most recent editions. I have seen some editions of this event now because it is sometimes kinda interesting how different it is, so as I see more and more, there also are some familiar faces. Like Dani Daniels was all over the show this time. Or, while we are mentioned people with the name Daniels already, Stormy Daniels, the one who lost to Trump and whose accusations proved unfounded and made-up, was also part of this show. Certainly not among the most likable, let alone desirable, parts. Then again, I have always been more into dark-haired girls. This also includes Riley Reid who seemed in her acceptance speech ready to do it once more with Mandingo. And looking at how his eyes went down on her when they left the stage, he did not seem to object one bit. But mostly I am referring to Remy LaCroix (cool name, cool chick!), who took home one of the biggest awards of the night, and I think she is pretty stunning. At least was back then. Exactly my type. Also interesting to see her together with Machine Gun Kelly during the pre-show I think, but also when the man performed on stage in the end. It almost felt as if she was his +1. Anyway, these shows always have some big names in terms of the music. Usually the recording artist they get to perform is the biggest name the show comes up with. And this is definitely true here. I mean I cannot say one bit that I am a fan of Machine Gun Kelly and he also did not win me over this time at all, but there is no denying he is quite a star. Or at least was when this took place almost seven years ago now. Allso I felt a bit uncomfortable with how he held LaCroix at the neck during the performance and I felt like she looked not exactly as if she was enjoying that either, but maybe it was also just the occasion. I mean adult film stars are not used to standing on big stages the way "real" actors are.

What else can I contribute here? Well, it was a tolerable show, but not as golden and memorable as you could think from the photo here on imdb. The endless list of people who were a part of this show you can see here on imdb and it probably includes literally everybody, even those who were only seen for a second in the audience or so. Props to whoever has/has the dedication to collect all these names, especially as sometimes here on imdb it is not too easy to find adult films and their stars. That person should get an award too, right? I mean that's also promoting the industry. Each in their very own ways. Okay, I cannot say too much about the winners here or anything, so I just share some more general stars. I still think it is not a great solution how many nominees they have in some categories. Makes it feel more like quantity over quality. One thing I found okay here is that here and there they also featured slightly older people, especially women, which is not particularly common otherwise for the AVN Awards. But this came to my mind especially when we had two ladies announce the winner of a category near the end. Then there was also the eternal Ron Jeremy. Well, sadly he had that creepy old man thingey going for him back then already, long before these accusations were broad to light that will probably have him behind bars for the rest of his life. But also for him it is true that one is innocent before proven guilty. But when he as one of three announcing the big category in the end, you could already see that he does not belong in a way you could imagine he would after all the years, no decades he has been part of this industry. Oh yes, the host: actress Rebekah Kochan, actually as always one of three hosts with the other two being porn starlets, but they were fairly forgettable with the exception of the moment when they were discussing having sex on the stage now right in front of everybody. Cannot say I am familiar with her at all, but this is no surprise at all. She is not a big name or anything. Especially in terms of women, they are still having a hard time to get really established comedians, actresses etc. But I applaud Kochan. She may not be my type at all (I am probably not hers either) and nobody I would wannt to hang out with, but she did a decent job here. Her jokes were appropriately inappropriate for the occasion and I at least smiled at some of them. Her delivery wasn't bad either. In other words, she did fine and I applaud her and hope she will maybe return as host one day. I would not oppose the idea. One scene I want to mention specifically, namely when we have a winner, again from the later stages of the ceremony, and she heads out with the trophy and is interviewed briefly (nothing you see elsewhere really, but yes this is done here too as they had almost hald a year to edit stuff) and what she said there about really sacrificing and giving it all for her career felt honest and humble. So either it is really true or she is a much better actress than the ones you usually see on this occasions. Big thumbs-up for her though. To me, her tears seemed heartfelt and real. Alright, this is pretty much it then. I would say that quality-wise this show is somewhere in the top group, bur rather at the end of it, if we are comparing this to other editions. There were also certainly enough attractive girls in here (mentioned some of them), which is not always the case ith the AVN Awards and I also liked that the sequences from the winning films shown were not endlessly long this time the way they did it in much older shows I think. But this is of course also not possible at all if you want to keep the running time at way under 1.5 hours here. Finally, a few more words on the guys: A big trophy here went to Manuel Ferrara and he is one who succeeded so many times at this show and is just one of really also many non-Americans who triumphed considerably ith the AVN Awards. This trend has gone on until very recently that you rarely get American guys as winners in the big categories. Frequently, it's internationals. So many examples to name. Siffredi of course, but there have also been Austrians lately and people from Eastern Europe. So mostly Europeans for sure. Ferrara is French by the way, even if his name sounds Hispanic. As for the more fun parts of the evening, we get a comedic look into an all-porn-girls slumber party and of course these are more sleazy than your regular slumber party. And finally, there's also parody films included here. They even have thheir own category. What is spoofed? "The Walking Dead", "Grease", "Karate Kid", "The Wizard of Oz", "Man of Steel" and a lot more really. Okay, that is all now. If you are into both adult films and awards shows, then go check this out. Otherwise, you can skip and won't be missing much. I give this one a thumbs-down, even if admittedly it is not on failure territory as these shows have been many times as well. And the one positive thing I really must say here is that this is still an awards show at its core and especially music awards shows can learn a lot from that. Kinda sad I must even say that. Then again, it's not possible for this show here to lose itself in one stage performance (they cannot have sex all night long here) the way music shows keep getting lost again and again in stage performances by recording artists. The two inclusions for MGK seemed absolutely fine quantity-wise. A little distraction, but not too much. With a better artist, it would have been even more fun. That's all, folks.
