Excellent Chemistry Times Two!
3xHCCH29 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Kenji delos Reyes is one of the passengers of a plane that crashed en route to Bicol. His son Kenneth, a rebellious teenager who just wished his dad dead the night before, wants to go there to look for him. Kelay is a kooky girl who also wants to look for Mr. delos Reyes because she wants to reunite him with his first love, her aunt Athena, who is on her death bed. As typical local rom-coms go, Kenneth and Kelay start out hating each others guts. As circumstances forced to them to take a long road trip to Bicol together, Kenneth gets to know his dad more and the pivotal role Athena played in his father's life.

This film is by now a certified blockbuster and for good reason, it is very good as far as local mainstream films go. A big part of its success is the superb casting of today's most popular teen love team, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, both as Kenneth and Kelay of the present day, and Kenji and Athena of a generation ago. It was also an inspired casting coup to get the biggest love team twenty years ago, Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta to play the senior Kenji and Athena.

Both sets of actors have so much positive chemistry with each other that it radiates through the screen into the movie theater. They do not even have to speak to titillate their rapt audiences. The best scenes of the film did not have words: Daniel riding to school on his skateboard, Kathryn smiling with her new haircut, Richard carrying Dawn from the wheelchair to the bench, Dawn radiantly coming into view from the bedroom. Director Cathy Garcia-Molina knows how to use the best assets of her actors to convey the most emotion, even without words.

I honestly enjoy this
thfttbn3 August 2023
At first I watch this because I thought it looked funny and I saw a lot of people talking about it, so I decided to watch it when I saw it on Netflix ,and I was left for surprise even tho this movie had a lot of silly moments ,the ending had me bawling my eyes out. What I thought I was gonna get was far more than what they give me so I would say ,give this movie a chance and yes there is a lot of silly/ cringy parts but remember this was filmed in 2014 so like 9 years ago. But I really enjoyed it, so can't really complain on anything but Little parts like the wigs and all cause the story made all of those things look like small things.

Not what i expected

At first i thought this would just be a fun and fluffy rom-com from the description on Netflix. Boy was I wrong. This movie was heavy on the drama and the way the past and present intertwined was absolutely fantastic. Over all it was a beautiful movie and definitely worth the watch.

Heartbreaking

Warning: Spoilers
The story of Kenji Delos Reyes & Athena is utterly heartbreaking! So they ended up adding Kenneth & Kelay's story to make up for the heartbreaking ending. When I watch a film I like to think to myself...how can I describe this film in one word? What is the writer trying to tell me? Are there any hidden details in the film that show a hidden part in the story?

When I watched this film the one word I can use to describe it is SACRIFICE! Both Athena's sacrificed their love for Kenji so he can move on and be happy. It's absolutely beautiful and sad at the exact same time!

One of the big things that turns me away from a film is when you can tell that the actor's feelings aren't genuine or believable. The chemistry and love displayed between the characters is definitely there and strong, I almost thought that this actually happened to some of the actors!

I've watched this film many times and I can't even begin to describe how it makes me feel every time I watch it.

I love how they focus on mainly the plot of the story, they really dig in deeply on the Drama side of things! I wish there was a sequel of this film to see how Kenji & Kaley's relationship unfolds!

Utterly Embarrassing Warning: Spoilers
I knew even before I watched the movie that it was going to be bad, but I never expected it to be THAT BAD.

The film circled around the two main characters, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. I'd use the characters' names but it their acting was just so horrible that it seemed that those two were just playing their own personas. Daniel's dad got into an air crash and Daniel met Kathryn in his journey to find his dad. While that happened, they got time to explore the past love life of their parents.

The following events were the usual sappy, melodramatic, "romantic" clichés that I'm not going to go into much detail into. Aside from the horrible story, there are millions of plot holes that the movie didn't even attempt to explain. Why didn't Kathryn tell her parents that she was being bullied by Daniel so they could do anything to stop him? Why did she suddenly fall in love with Daniel? Where the hell did that "Sexy Love" nickname come from? Why did the other girl just suddenly become sick? I could go on forever. The fact that the older Daniel and Kathryn were played by the same actors in the flashback didn't help either.

There were also blatant product placements and there were so many inconsistencies in the setting. The costumes were also a joke. They were so exaggerated that a satiric film set in the 90s would be embarrassed to use them.

The film was just an embarrassing stunt to make money out of the cult following that Padilla and Bernardo have. If you have any respect for the art of filmmaking, stay away from this film and watch something else.

Destiny - True love meeting and departing #badtiming
Diane104810 February 2022
Aussie here - first viewing in 2022. Coz trending on #Netflix - I loved this film - Athena the new girl at school comes to the attention of the leader of the Gangsters because she stood up to him (Kenji). Kenji bullies her to be his fake girlfriend to make his previous girlfriend jealous to try and win her back. I think he secretly respected Athena because she stubbornly would not give into him until he made it impossible for her to say NO to her being his girlfriend with the whole jumping off the building thing.

The jealous girls of the school also come after her, bullying and physically hurting Athena. Kenji goes into protective mode because he realizes he has created a dangerous situation for Athena.

Kenji's main goal was to get his previous girlfriend back but he falls in love with his fake girlfriend. There is so so much more to this move than what I have said above. I love this movie!

Unexpectedly heart breaking and reality bomber
morienealex22 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Everything was perfect in this movie. Cinematography, the cast, script, phase, and like just everything is a masterpiece. For me of course. Everything I re-watch this movie, it's still like watching it for the first time as it still brings me to sleepless crying due to after thoughts I get from this movie. So much feelings, why couldn't they just let that happy ending be all bubbly romantic? Why did it have to be tragically happy? But I really loved this. Will always be my favourite. Maybe I'm over hyping this movie but, it's really worth watching. No matter how much you prepare yourself for it.
