Took me days to get this movie out of my head (not that I necessarily wanted to).

Nope this wasn't a million dollar blockbuster, there were no Hollywood stars, there were some awkward moments, and the flow was sometimes sketchy. But a third of the way into the movie I was IN the movie. I found myself caring for the characters, I was absolutely unable to guess where things were heading, and I didn't care how long it took to find out! Later I found myself wanting to share moments from the movie with others and in doing so I noticed I was beginning to understand why a character acted a certain way or said what they did--like they were real people! Over the next few days I was still thinking and talking about the movie. How often does that happen?

A good first movie with an unusual and touching subject.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a first feature, made with a limited budget. And it shows, here and there. It's not perfect. It is, however, a good story; well told and well acted, and well worth your time.

I don't know that what I write after this constitutes a spoiler or spoilers, but just in case... while not giving detailed plot or scene information, I am going to discuss the story. A bit.

The movie concerns Rob, a still young man with a still young wife and children. At the start of the movie. Rob and his best friend Neal are living what might best be called an unexamined life. They exist. They do what is expected of them. They're not drones, they're not unplugged so much as settled into their routines. Then- and I'm not going to spoil this at all- something happens that causes a massive identity crisis for Rob, Neal and those who love them.

Good acting throughout, and a surprising maturity to both the writing and directing- particularly for a first effort. It's challenging, here and there- but I think it amply rewards the viewer, in the end. Recommended.

"I don't think they have a label for that."

Let me put my cards on the table. This is not my kind of movie. I'm an old man. I am a literary guy. I don't think I'm prudish (though I may be :-) ) but I always prefer a good extended metaphor to a sexy scene and when I think of "adult" humor I think more of Mark Twain than Adam Sandler. Yet, even saying that, this movie ultimately won me over. There truly here is value for everyone. Mr. McGreevy has taken a short play in which I might have cast Sandler and then without losing any comic edge and without seams turned it into a serious psychological work that has something meaningful to say to a new (and even an old) generation. It deals with topics and transcends them that often in lesser work risks becoming agenda or mere hipness. The acting, the soundtrack, the editing here are totally professional. McGreevy himself, Darrick Silkman, Chelsea Wagoner, and Andrea Erickson are all top-notch. By the way, you will love the soundtrack too and will start searching out the groups (such as Blood Cow) for downloads. Who needs more than $5000 to produce a winning movie? Not Aaron Gum (Bent Over Neal's director) or Andrew McGreevy.

More than worth it

It's not perfection, but nothing incredible ever is. Nor should it be. That's what allows its quirk. I fell in love, became annoyed, squirmed with awkward anticipation. I gagged a little, laughed hysterically and sobbed (unconfirmed). I even experienced a moment of jealousy... Anything with the influence to provoke that many emotions in me in such a short period of time, goes down in MY history as .... really really rad!!! :-) <3

So apparently I have to write 10 lines of review for this to qualify. So here is more. I adore this movie. I over-analyzed because I sincerely love so many of the people who contributed. I didn't want to be biased. It is good!! Truly really good. I didn't see the first cut but this version kept my attention. I even held the urge to use the bathroom until almost the end. If you have the chance to check it out, jump at it. It will make you think and contemplate...
