The stunt took weeks of preparation. Building a tank. Training with freedivers and magicians. Developing the filming schedule.
The end result of the effort, a new episode of YouTube star Michelle Khare’s series Challenge Accepted in which she attempted to recreate Harry Houdini’s deadliest trick, has since garnered more than 4.5 million views on YouTube.
The final product has a production quality that would rival what’s on “traditional” TV (in fact, magician David Blaine attempted a similar stunt for a 2006 primetime ABC special), but Khare produced the episode herself, for her YouTube audience.
“For Challenge Accepted because we release very infrequently — unlike a normal season of television, it’s about 10 to 15 episodes a year — and within each of those episodes, we are representing a unique community,” Khare says in an interview. “So for example, in the video where I attempted Harry Houdini’s deadliest magic trick, we’re...

If there’s one thing Rhett & Link have learned about their Good Mythical Morning audience over the last decade, it’s that people love food.
Specifically, they love watching Rhett & Link taste food: good food, bad food, cheap food, ungodly expensive food. Their Will It? series, where they submit various food items to questionable transformations, is one of the most popular on their channel, and taste tests of all kinds have become a staple of the content that’s driven their channel to nearly 20 million subscribers.
Rhett & Link also love food. That’s why, almost exactly two years ago, their Mythical team launched Sporked, a foodie-focused site with debut articles like a definitive ranking of uncomfortably sexy cereal mascots, an (objectively correct) argument for why it should be normal to consume sauces like soup, and “why Easter candy absolutely rips.”

In a new cooking competition series, creator contestants are vying for the ultimate prize: A personal insult from Gordon Ramsay himself. The hot-blooded chef and TV host has premiered Idiot Sandwich, which he is distributing through his official YouTube channel.
Idiot Sandwich got its start as a bit on The Late Late Show With James Corden. As part of a Hell’s Kitchen parody, Ramsey personified one of his favorite barbs by holding pieces of bread on both sides of a person’s head. And thus, the “idiot sandwich” meme was born; it’s now evolving into a full-fledged series that will feature creators like Rhett & Link, Zach King, and Lexi Hensler.

As Film Independent’s Global Media Makers (Gmm) program has broadened its scope to new countries and regions, a significant part of Gmm’s initiative has been to conduct worldwide film diplomacy outreach trips and international film workshops guided by U.S. industry mentors, often Film Independent Fellows.
Recent trips have included destinations such as Algeria, India, Morocco, Nepal and Tunisia. In 2022, Gmm started supporting filmmakers throughout the continent of Africa. Our first trip was to South Africa was with producer Avril Speaks, a veteran program mentor who has previously collaborated with two filmmakers from Johannesburg.
Avril was gracious enough to share her experience with Gmm in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria, as well as some background about her long-standing relationship with Film Independent. Here’s the conversation:

Mschf, the Brooklyn-based art startup that releases unconventional product drops -- like MrBeast’s Finger On The App game and Lil Nax X’s Satan Shoes -- has unveiled its 61st product drop in collaboration with digital network Mythical.
Building on Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal’s propensity for taste-testing zany foods on their Good Mythical Morning talk show, Mschf is bringing to market Illegal Chips.
The bags are flavored like foods that are "illegal" in the U.S., including horse meat, fugu (poison blowfish), and casu marzu (maggot cheese). Consumers can buy a package of four bags -- each of the aforementioned flavors, plus one surprise bag -- for $12. All are synthetically-flavored and kosher, while the horse and fugu varieties are vegan, and casu marzu is vegetarian.

Good Mythical Evening will take place on Oct. 28 at 10 pm Et. Tickets are available here through streaming platform Looped. Members of the Mythical Society -- the guys' subscription service -- can purchase beginning Sept. 24, while general sales open on Sept. 30. Afterward, some of the world’s top social media standouts, including pop star Meghan Trainor, Good Mythical Morning duo Rhett & Link, and talented American Sofie Dossi converged on the Anaheim Convention Center to perform at the annual YouTube Onstage event.
Meanwhile, 2,800 miles away from Anaheim, in an airy studio space in Lower Manhattan, a very different kind of event offered its own brand of creator-facing advice.

Mythical Entertainment, the digital media firm owned and operated by best friends and business partners Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, reportedly paid roughly $10 million to acquire Smosh from the bank that assumed Defy Media’s assets in the wake of its bankruptcy.

YouTube hosts Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal have turned to a decidedly old-school marketing format to promote their new media smash Good Mythical Morning.
In order to spread the word about the daily YouTube talk series, which they claim is the internet's most-watched morning show, the best friends and business partners have launched a nationwide billboard campaign. The campaign is a satirical nod to local news station advertising -- with the implication that TV news is almost comedically nostalgic. Billboards are set to run through the month of September with one in all 50 states, situated in unusually-named cities -- except, due to local laws, in Maine, Vermont, Alaska, and Hawaii. In these states, ads will appear on buses, buildings, and airports.
On the billboards, McLaughlin and Neal are dressed like stereotypical news anchors with suits that have actually been painted onto their shirtless torsos. Each billboard proclaims Good Mythical Morning's...

Rhett & Link are bringing some fun and games to their morning show. The duo, known for hosting Good Mythical Morning on their YouTube channel, has partnered with Hasbro to promote the toy company's games in their videos.
As part of the deal, Rhett & Link will create "one-of-a-kind content" to support the release of new Hasbro titles. While the release didn't specify what form this content will take, we can get an idea of what we might expect to see by watching a Good Mythical Morning episode from last year, in which Rhett & Link played a round of Hasbro's Battleship.

With 2018’s New York NewFronts safely put to bed, a couple of trends are coming into focus.
For one, companies on both sides of the Pacific are bankrolling boatloads of short-form video projects as everyone positions themselves for the next stage of mobile. It’s where the audiences, and their money, are.
That should be great news for online creators who’ve honed their chops with punchy, short-form tales far from traditional Hollywood storytelling structures. In an era where mobile content just keeps getting more and more valuable, shows optimized for small screens, vertical formats, and shorter attention spans are hot again. Add in the imminent arrival of superfast 5G technologies in the U.S., Korea, and China, and catering to handheld audiences makes even more sense.
Even the biggest companies are going long on shorts.
Netflix, home of 100 feature-length shows this year, also commissioned a new shorts series from BuzzFeed News called Follow This.

YouTube stars Rhett & Link later this year will revert to their original shorter “Good Mythical Morning” daily talk-show runtime — less than a year after the comedy duo have been trying their hand at a longer-form, TV-style format.
The news came at Studio71’s Digital Content NewFronts presentation in NYC for advertisers. The company also announced it’s bringing back “This Might Get,” the daily talk show from YouTube comedians and BFFs Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart, for a second season, along with a deal with Fine Brothers Entertainment that includes three new original shows and a branded-content partnership.
Studio71 also touted upcoming content coming from its ongoing partnerships with actor-comedian Lilly Singh, aka YouTube’s “SuperWoman,” and Seven Bucks Digital Studios, the digital arm of Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions.
With the next season of “Good Mythical Morning,” the show will return to a one-segment, 12-...
