Karen's turn to shine!
hiren848415 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
How do they keep coming up with these amazing endings?! Just when you think you know what'll happen...bang! It's thrilling to watch and credit goes to the showrunners - even if you ignore the whole superhero world, it's actually great drama and great television.

This time it's Karen's turn for centre stage and she delivers! It's not an easy character to portray but Deborah Ann Woll does well not to make her role two-dimensional - this is someone who gives a damn and is doing her very best to try to do the right thing, even though everyone else is telling her not to...and boy that was a shocker of an ending!

It's also great to see the repercussions of the paths taken by Murdoch and Fisk...neither is in a great place but both are looking to seek justice respectively.

Very few shows maintain this level of quality. Only 2 episodes to go and I cannot wait to see what happens!

Stupid way to die

Warning: Spoilers
Wesley was probably my favourite character in the whole series but like come on man, seriously the guy was smart as hell and almost running the show giving Fisk ideas and anything he needed and they choose to kill him like this. Disappointing other than that the episode was brilliant but Foggy is starting to bore me to tears myself

Everyone With Enemies Has Consequences
ThomasDrufke11 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Part of what makes a great hero is how great his or her villain is. But also part of the equation is just how dire the consequences can be for how heroes or villains. The aftermath of Foggy finding out Matt's secret and then Vanessa being presumably poisoned hit our main characters very hard. It was very much an episode that showcased just how similar the lifestyle can be on both sides of the coin even with their ideologies being so far apart. I liked that approach and it's one that has been tackled with stories on Batman and the Joker. To be who they both are, they need each other.

Foggy is falling apart after, in his mind, losing his best friend. I'm sure at some point they will bro hug it out and make up, but for now we will have to do without their relationship. With Foggy taking a back burner this episode, Karen was at the forefront. In typical Karen form, she isn't backing down from going after Fisk. It's one of the things I really like about her character. She's like Laurel Lance without all of her annoying and whiny traits. Killing Wesley at the end there was pretty great too, although it still doesn't make much sense as to why he would leave a loaded gun on the table.

Rosario Dawson made an appearance once again. I say appearance because all she's doing is cameo-ing at this point. She comes and goes to give Matt advice and then leaves. And if her leaving at the end of this episode is the last we see of her this season, I wont be surprised. Back at the hospital, Vanessa is in intensive care and it became pretty clear that Owlsley is behind the poisoned glasses. I wouldn't mind someone shutting his character up very soon as well.

But back to Matt battling with his own demons, or devil as he addressed it. I really love the scenes at the church with the father. I've said it before but I think it brings such an interesting a new dynamic to a superhero. Besides the brief but important scene in Man of Steel, I don't think any film or TV show has tackled that part of the hero's life. I wouldn't be surprised if the priest actually ends up giving Matt the Daredevil name. So this episode was once again much better than I had thought it would be and gave multiple new looks at the characters. And I almost forgot to mention that it seems as though Matt will finally be getting his suit from Melvin Potter.

Finally, some real life reactions!
WalterMittee8 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Forget Foggy, forget Matt, forget about everybody else except for the seethingly angry Fisk, and of course that boffo desk scene. When Karen is at the desk and wakes up gasping then tears begin to run down her face as she starts to recover from being knocked out, tell me that is not some top-notch acting. Then, Deborah's acting skills click up another notch after she shoots Wesley. Her reactions are wonderful because it shows us something few if any other actors ever show. How many times have you seen actors confronted by incredible circumstances in movies yet their reactions are as if they're looking at a green screen? We see them suddenly confronted by a ten foot ogre wielding ten five foot axes and they look as though they've seen that before. It may be a green screen, but it's up to the actors to emote baby, emote, and not stand there as though they're on line at the Dairy Queen.

That whole desk scene is an acting tour de force for her and must have been so emotionally draining. It should be required viewing for actors who are confronted with these incredible situations in movies yet are unable to convey a sense of what it's like to be in those moments to the audience. I think in large part it's the director's fault for not recognizing this and getting more out of the actors.

It was a terrific scene I watch about five times.

The unseen threat is the deadliest
quincytheodore25 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Fisk is now plagued with a serious problem as his beloved suffers alleged collateral damage. It's still unclear who the target was as each of them has been spoken of with ill intent. Meanwhile, Murdock is slowly recovering and continuing his own investigation, although he finds himself more isolated from his friends as he progresses. Foggy and Karen go on their separate efforts, and they might find the danger is lurking closer than they think.

The fight against Fisk is not the typical superhero versus villain fight. Fisk's colleagues would not team up and engage Daredevil in a gauntlet of death matches, at least not in conventional way. As Fisk rules the criminal enterprise, many are not in agreement with his recent methods. Serendipitously for Daredevil, Fisk is not only fighting him head-on, but also has to deal with the effect of his vigilante endeavor.

Murdock himself realizes after the scuffle of the warehouse that he can't finish Fisk in one go. Ultimately, he tries to go for a lead and chips away Fisk's strength. It may not be completely detrimental to Fisk, but Murdock is steadily getting back to his feet. His companion, on the other hand, must deal with a rising threat just as the three of them are falling apart.

As Fisk's group tries to resolve the crisis, a few new problems arise. Wesley is still a suave yet occasionally aggressive if needs be, while Leland has a rather uneasy reaction to the whole thing. They try to uncover the culprit and also protect Fisk's interest, but unforeseeable things might not go in their way as a great twist awaits one of them.

While the season is closing, one of the characters must face their own demon and hope to come out of the encounter intact.

The better angels of our nature
jhudson-117046 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Matt suits back up and looks for an upgrade, Fisk deals with the attack on Vanessa and himself, and Karen gets a surprise meeting.

Matt recuperates from his fight from Nobu and breakup with Foggy. He first meets with Karen who brings him up to speed onto what she found out about Fisk and his father. Matt also has Claire over who helps him with his wounds. This really shows how Matt has better chemistry with Claire, not Karen and yet it's Matt and Karen that we're given more of.

The fight between Matt and Melvin was really good too, with many parts of the shop being used to help both of them. I'm really excited that Matt is going to be getting his red suit and that it is going to have practicality with armor, better than the 2003 Daredevil that looked like a biker suit.

D'Onofrio's Fisk was very well done and well acted in this episode as he had to deal with the possible loss of Vanessa and the real loss of a close friend.

Karen this episode was kidnapped by Wesley this episode, who threatened her and told her to back off. For some reason, Wesley puts a loaded gun on the table in between him and Karen. Karen gets a hold of it and kills Wesley. It makes no sense and it is a terrible end for a very good villain.

+ Fisk deals with loss + Matt v Melvin and placing an order for a new suit + Matt and Claire - Not as good chemistry with Matt and Karen - Poor end for Wesley

Final Score: 8.4/10

This Episode Has Everything I Need [8.8/10]
panagiotis199316 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Live Reaction / Review for Daredevil Season 1 Episode 11: Episode 10 was delicious but I hope this one is even better. I wonder who poisoned the people at the event. Nice to see Claire again. So Karen knew from the start that they were going to meet Fisk's mom? Thats so unfair for Ben and so messed up. I love the conversations of Matt and the father so much. Matt wants a suit? Oh yeah! Matt hasnt recovered from his injuries, he shouldn't be out there. I kinda feel bad for the guy who makes Fisk's suit, it seems like he has some kind of disability. Didn't Ben already know about Fisk's father? He seems surprised. Fisk tries to look like he doesn't have feelings but it's not true. This woman helped him show his human side. I appreciate Wesley's character more with each episode. Karen killed Wesley? Oh no, I really hope he wont die, I like the character. Amazing episode, my rating is 8.8/10.

Awesome episode with a big surprise.
Q-Man16 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Of all the ways that Wesley could be eliminated, I would never have thought that he'd be shot to death by Karen. That was an awesome ending to the episode.

It also seems that Fisk's world is crashing down around him, with Vanessa in a coma and now Wesley dead.

The big mystery is who poisoned Vanessa. I suspect that it was Leland.

Awesome

Warning: Spoilers
One more episode and you know: what a stupendous episode. I don't remember if it was in this episode or the previous one that showed Murdock's first heroic act, but if it was in the previous one, I think I forgot to mention, well, how disgusting the guy raped his own daughter (it would be disgusting to rape any kind of person ), deserved a few more beatings. I didn't remember that Mr Potter fought against Daredevil, I swore it was based on the conversation: "Hi, Mr Harry oops Melvin Potter, could you make a special outfit so I can defeat you-know-who". I swear that line was stored in my mind. I remembered this scene with Wesley turning Karen into a sieve. Episode eleven watched on March 8, 2024.

Who are we supposed to be rooting for here?
liamconnors87 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
While Matt and Fisk battle their own internal clashes between good and evil, I found myself in a similar situation. We're supposed to be rooting for the good guy, right? But through so many parts of this season I found myself rooting against Karen, Foggy and even Matt, and never more so than in this episode. In a way, I think this could be a good thing, in that a heroes best feature is a great enemy. I mean, we all hate to love the bad guy, but it's the intrigue that keeps us hooked (see: The Joker in The Dark Knight, Voldemort, etc.). Wesley has always been intriguing in his suave characteristics and consigliere nature, but he actually showed admirable features in this episode, and of course my realization of him being my favorite character came on the same episode of his death. So, yes, the show does well in conflicting the viewers with whether they love or hate the bad guy; however,, the method is flawed when you start to just really hate your good guys. Between this episode and the last I've pretty much lost the entire Foggy aspect of the show, so much so that I've considered skipping through Foggy scenes. Not only is the character completely drawn out and over-exaggerative, the acting is almost cringe-worthy. Sorry Fog, but when you're repeatedly in tears over an old woman you just met, I can't take your character seriously. And Karen is basically the same situation, just with better acting; your two friends are fighting, so you call up Ben Urich and basically sob about how appreciative you are of him? Doesn't really make sense to me. So, yeah, I'm gonna say that when the bullets went through Wesley in the end, I probably would've been happier with them going through Karen. Sorry! That being said, I surprisingly have no complaints about Matt. Our lead man has done no wrong.

Lazy Writing
brokenspear19 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers.

Of course Wesley leaves without telling anybody where he's going or what he's doing. Of course he would set a loaded weapon on the table while talking to Karen. Of course he would offer her a job instead of just killing her. Of course he would jump when his phone rings and Karen would be cheetah-fast in grabbing the gun then shoot him dead with multiple shots to the heart.

Of course.

It's just boring as hell. (Karen's character is, ultimately, boring as hell.) Bad, lazy writing. The whole do it for the Mexican woman we just met, do it because it's right, do it because we can't let Fisk get away with this, do it because we're all scared and afraid, but we deserve better, and finally, do it because we all need to fight, fight, fight...but don't cross that line! Don't turn into the Devil! Oh no, fight and hurt people, but be nice about it. Break bones, knock out teeth, dislocate and cripple, but go to church and let things weigh down your soul (while admitting you aren't going to change) and it's all good.

So stupid. Hinting at those themes is understandable, hammering away at them episode after episode is so tiring for a show that revolves around violence.

Fairly watchable
Leofwine_draca28 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Fairly watchable as an episode, a few scenes are pure padding and quite irritating and some of the dialogue seems worthlessly long winded. Otherwise it works and the ending is a nice surprise.
