It’s easy to take “Modern Family” for granted now.
That’s actually a tribute to how much the comedy has become engrained in the fabric of television comedy. Don’t forget, “Modern Family” broke new ground in 2009 with its depiction of a diverse, multi-generational family and its relatable stories of what it’s like to interact with your relatives in the 21st century.
And the show continues to experiment with special episodes. For the upcoming Season 9 opener, the entire episode will take place in Lake Tahoe, on a houseboat. The “Modern Family” cast is set to shoot the episode (inspired by family trips co-creator Steve Levitan took as a kid) later this month in Tahoe.
Among other recent memorable episodes, two years ago, “Connection Lost” was shot entirely via social networking platforms like FaceTime, and this past season, the episode “Five Minutes” focused on several story vignettes, shot in real time.

Despite having played type-a former Adderall addict Annie Edison for six seasons (and perhaps, someday, a movie) on Community, for which she earned a Critics' Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series; despite going joke-for-joke with comedy heavyweights like Will Ferrell (Get Hard), Rebel Wilson (How to Be Single) and Jason Segel and Chris Pratt (The Five-Year Engagement); despite the cosign she's received from comedy maestros ranging from Adam McKay to Judd Apatow; and despite having once worked as a birthday clown named Sunny, Alison Brie has a hard time thinking of herself as a comedian.
"I've never done standup and I've never done improv," Brie says almost timidly, referring to the way in which many people in comedy now work their way through Upright Citizens Brigade or Second City. "I went to theater school" -- she graduated from California Institute of the Arts in 2005 -- "and we did a lot of, like...

What. A. Disappointment.
The traitor was finally revealed on Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 18 and it wasn't anyone I was expecting.
In fact, it was a character that was introduced earlier in the hour and unless you were paying close attention, you would have been left scratching your head when the big reveal was made.
For Designated Survivor to have made such a big flipping deal all week about who the traitor was and then giving us pretty much a nobody is quite aggravating.
What I was expecting was a true traitor. Like Jason.(I really thought it was going to be Jason.) Or Aaron. Even Chuck or General Cochrane would have been better than what's his name?
Oh, yeah. Jay Whitaker, Director of Homeland Security who was on screen for Less Than Five Minutes when he was showing Hannah the flash drive information.

Jim Carrey is letting it all grow out. Thanks to a newly shared selfie, the comedian revealed a relaxed new look to fans in honor of Easter and Passover. While the actor snapped a photo of himself holding an adorable bunny rabbit, it was his long locks and gray beard that got the Internet talking. "I Had To Look At This Picture For Five Minutes Before My Brain Understood That This Was Jim Carrey," one stunned fan tweeted, caps lock and all. "This mans beard is so glorious it makes me feel warm and fuzzy," another follower wrote. The 55-year-old's new 'do also inspired comparison's to Tom Hanks' character in Castaway. Short of the DayIt’s like ‘Black Mirror’ the comedy.
Technology is awesome, and technology sucks, it both connects us and disconnects us, it makes us feel a part of the global society while simultaneously increasing our individualism, and as a result of all this, technology is the sharpest double-edged sword maybe of all-time.
Under that technological umbrella, social media is its own separate black hole, a virtual construct that has almost entirely replaced old forms of socialization. The people with whom I interact most in a week — my Fsr/Ops colleagues — are people I have never been in the same room with, and until we started the One Perfect Podcast a few weeks ago, I had never even heard most of their voices.
Point is, modern technology is a conundrum, a force for good and a divisive force at the same time, a field whose every advance comes with at least one trap door. This...

Video games are a truly special part of our day-to-day lives. They allow players to explore and immerse themselves within varying worlds of increasingly unique designs. Thanks to a growing wealth of options with their games, there’s always an experience ready for every kind of gamer. While recent years have introduced controversial elements like Dlc, micro-transactions, and Day One patches, gaming continues to thrive. However, there’s another fast-developing issue that plagues today’s fans, and it’s self-inflicted.
This issue can be described as a growing toxicity within many gaming circles. Although it may initially appear to be typical internet culture with the constant pessimism and trash-talking, this trend has gotten progressively worse. It’s difficult to say what started it, but its presence in current gaming culture is undeniable. France’s arthouse star has received her first Oscar nomination for the rape revenge thriller Elle. She explains why her character is a ‘post-feminist heroine’ – and why she wanted the controversial role that Hollywood actors wouldn’t touch
Isabelle Huppert is displeased. In a soulless hotel conference room, she is due to give a TV interview about her new film, Elle. The lighting, however, is unacceptable. Huppert peers through the camera, shakes her head. There are terse exchanges, rearranged chairs. Five minutes becomes 10. The lighting is tweaked. Her frown is now a scowl. Everything is running late. Fifteen. The crew look suicidal. Twenty. And then, apparently at random, she says Ok.
You feel like applauding. TV lighting is often terrible, working on camera is what she does, the problem has been resolved without her hiding behind a publicist. The crew still look traumatised, but they’ll live. I’m next.

“Paterson” actress Golshifteh Farahani was exiled from Iran after she appeared in Ridley’s Scott’s 2008 film “Body of Lies” and appeared on screen and on the red carpet without a veil. The actress then moved to Paris, and while she doesn’t carry an Iranian passport, Donald Trump’s new travel ban could affect her career and next role.
“I’m supposed to go to the Us this Saturday for a movie, but I might not be able to go,” Farahani told The Hollywood Reporter. “The embassy is so busy. I’ve been trying to get an Esta, but I can’t even get onto the website. I think some crazy things are happening.”
The actress didn’t reveal the project she was scheduled to appear in, but added that producers were already searching for her replacement in case she was unable to travel.

Antoine Fuqua’s 2001 Training Day is a cop movie classic. Fuelled by the jaw-dropping (and Oscar-winning) tour-de-force performance of Denzel Washington as increasingly loopy Lapd Detective Alonzo Harris, the film wallowed in the fuzzy ambiguity between cops and robbers and raised troubling questions about the limits of police behaviour and their authority – questions that feel increasingly relevant in 2017.
“So,” thought a CBS executive (probably while chomping on a cigar), “the property’s cheap – let’s turn it into a hot n’ sexy police procedural! It’s so easy! We’ll get couple of hot young actors, some A-lister to play a rogue cop in the mould of Denzel Washington and bing bang boom we’ll be polishing a rack of gleaming Emmys before we know it. What’s that? The A-Listers are busy? Well, who the hell is free? …Bill Paxton? Echhh. Okay fine,...

On Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1 Episode 7 and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1 Episode 8, the children got closer to the truth as they found themselves working in the Lucky Smells Lumber Mill.
Now, I need to speak about the reveal that Will Arnett and Cobie Smulders were not actually Bertrand and Beatrice Baudelaire.
That floored me. The kids walking towards that yellow door definitely made me think we were getting to watch the reunion play out.
However, the constant sense of dread that seeps from every single scene of the show should have sent alarm bells ringing as soon as it was "revealed" that they were alive.
In the grand scheme of things, it made sense because it helped set up the plot at Prufrock Preparatory School for both the Baudelaires and the Quagmires.

The family melodrama A Monster Calls alternately conforms to expectations and defies them, which is probably why it’s already proved divisive during its run on the fall festival circuit. Some have called the film unsophisticated, saying that it makes well-meaning but obvious observations about how grief affects the young. Others connect with it on such a deep level that they can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t be moved. In a way, the confusion over what this movie is meant to be—and who’ll want to watch it—befits a story that’s so tough to take at times, about an imaginative child coping with the unimaginable.
In a literal sense, the “monster” in A Monster Calls is an enormous fire-breathing tree-beast, with the voice of Liam Neeson, who comes at night to haunt a preteen boy named Conor O’Malley (played by Lewis MacDougall). Five minutes into...

Director Caradog W James' follow-up to 2013 AI sci-fi The Machine, Don't Knock Twice is a horror film that focuses on a mother and a daughter re-establishing their relationship with one another as supernatural forces try to tear them apart.
The central set-up, which I'll mention is by far the least interesting part of the overall film, is troubled mother Jess (Katee Sackhoff) attempting to regain custody of the estranged Chloe (Lucy Boynton). Acting out, Chloe goes with her friend to the creepy old house of an alleged child murderer and, for some reason, baits her rumoured ghost by knocking on the door twice. Hijinks ensue.
What Don’t Knock Twice lacks in originality, it makes up for in creativity. Like a grab bag of horror sub-genres and conventions, there’s nothing too familiar or unfamiliar that the film won't use in an attempt to scare its audience.

Jason from Mnpp here, on the verge of admitting something that might get me lynched a la Frankenstein's Monster round these parts -- I have never seen Grease. Yes, that Grease. The movie Grease. Five minutes of channel flipping or searching Google will confirm the public fascination with psychopaths and serial killers. We’re intrigued by the idea of monsters hiding in plain sight, people whose lack of innately human characteristics like empathy and shame enables them to actually do the things that most of us only think about in our darkest moments, if at all. As a result, the psycho killer is a common fixture in films and on TV, where they’re portrayed as either evil geniuses or slaves to their compulsions—think Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill in Silence Of The Lambs. But what about the real people who have been diagnosed with this disorder? Is there such a thing as an innocent psychopath?
This question is explored in Billy O’Brien’s sharply observed indie horror-drama I Am Not A Serial Killer, which contrasts two very different takes on the...

An autistic teen brings home an ancient curse in a film that starts with promise and ends with portals, talismans and chanting – none of which are very scary
There’s a commentary that runs in my head as I watch a wide release horror picture not screened for critics prior to appearing in theaters. The supernatural-meets-suburbia cheapie The Darkness was one such occasion. Five minutes in: hey, this isn’t that bad. Ten minutes in: I’ve seen far worse movies, there was no need to hide this. Fifteen minutes in: oh, uh, I think I see where this is headed. Twenty minutes in: I sure hope Kevin Bacon got a lot of money, it’s a miracle he’s able to say these lines without regurgitating his lunch.
So let’s focus first on that kinda-good opening scene. Mikey (David Mazouz) is an autistic pre-teen on a southwestern camping...

For years video games have clamuored to make the gaming experience more cinematic. Which is now the reason we have games like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, The Last of Us, and Until Dawn – games that edge more towards the “interactive adventures” we were promised back in the full-motion video era of gaming (remember that?). But what if it was the other way round? What if films looked to video games for inspiration? Undoubtedly we’d have more movies like Hardcore Henry.
Shot completely from the hero’s perspective, a la Fps video games, Hardcore Henry stars you – the audience. You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry.

Hardcore Henry is in theaters right now, and if you've seen the film, I'm guessing there were a handful of times where you probably wondered "how the heck did they pull that off?" (Read our review here.) Stx Entertainment has released a music video for writer/director Ilya Naishuller's band (called Biting Elbows) that doubles as an awesome behind-the-scenes featurette showing off the wirework and crazy choreography that went into capturing the movie's insane first person Pov perspective. Check out that GoPro rig! Very cool.
They also put out an extended clip of a motorcycle chase from the movie. Both clips should be considered Nsfw. Let us know what you think below:

When Casi and Joey Rott found out they were expecting triplets, the couple, who were already parents to two daughters, ages 6 and 2, did everything in their power to make sure the babies were healthy and carried full-term. The proud parents couldn't wait to leave the hospital and start their lives as a family of seven. But Casi never got to welcome her newborns into their home in Clay Center, Kansas. Contemporary warfare seems to be conducted with all the calculation of insurance adjusters studying figures in ledgers, or sports executives applying “Moneyball”-style management techniques on their teams. Acts of war have been dehumanized by acronyms, decisions of life and death are lightened by multiple layers of bureaucracy, and now drone warfare enables the act of killing with nothing more than joystick with a trigger. It’s within a combination of those whirling elements that Gavin Hood (“Tsotsi,” “Rendition”) drops viewers for “Eye In The Sky,” and while certainly imperfect, there is something to admire about the film’s attempt to present the tangled logistics of a single military operation, where it seems everyone wants success but none of the responsibility of the tough decision making involved. The script by Guy Hibbert (“Five Minutes In Heaven”) is as lean as it is clever, with the entire movie taking place over...

Hardcore Henry looks like it's going to be one hell of a fun action movie. The film stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), and it was completely shot from the point of view of the main character, who finds himself in the middle of some serious shit. One of the reviews quoted in the trailer says that it's like a mix of Jason Bourne, Captain America, and Call of Duty. Another says, "It's like The Raid and Kingsman had a really F'd Up Baby." That's enough to get me excited to go see it! There are a lot more glowing reviews for the film. It seems like people are freakin' loving it!

This year brings a number of major-budget action features, each attempting to one-up their predecessors in order to get audiences in theaters. However, before the summer blockbuster season kicks off we’ll get one that seems most aligned to the video-game experience. Ilya Naishuller‘s Hardcore follows a cybernetic super-soldier who kicks, punches and parkours his way across Russia to save his wife from a psychotic paramilitary psychic bent on world domination. And it’s entirely in first-person point-of-view. Produced by Timur Bekmambetov and starring Sharlto Copley, Danila Kozlovsky, Haley Bennet, Andrey Dementiev, Dasha Charusha, and Sveta Ustinova, a new trailer has now landed.

An action film with an identity of its own – it’s very much worth watching the trailer for Hardcore Henry…
Blimey. If you’re fed up of conventional action movies, or films that try and follow a pretty similar template, then Hardcore Henry very much has you in mind.
The movie, which arrives in the UK on April 8th, is about a man brought back to life by his wife. From that point forwards, his life becomes something of a first person shooter, and… well, take a look at the first trailer for the movie…
A bit different, right?

Read More: Stx Entertainment Renames and Sets Release for Nsfw First-Person Shooter 'Hardcore' In film, like in any medium, it's rare that some kind of development comes along that revolutionizes the way we make or watch something, and while it can't yet be said if Stx Entertainment's new film, "Hardcore Henry," will change the industry, the absolutely bonkers trailer above proves that it's going to make one hell of an effort trying. Told entirely from the point-of-view of its character, the action film, previously titled "Hardcore" when it premiered at Tiff last year, is the closest movies have ever gotten to simulating video games. Another adrenaline-fueled, action-packed trailer has been released for Sharlto Copley's new thriller, Hardcore Henry. The movie previously went by the title Hardcore. What makes this movie so special and unique is the fact that the whole thing is shot from the point of view of the main character, just like the first-person video games that we enjoy playing.
The main character is a mute, amnesiac cyborg who is brought back from the dead by his wife through the wonders of science. Not long after he wakes up he's being shot at, and the adventure begins. The movie looks awesomely insane, and I'm excited as hell to watch it. This is one of those films that is going to take audiences on a fantastically wild ride of death and carnage.
You'll also notice in the trailer that Copley plays multiple characters in the film. Here's the synopsis:
