I'm not the crazy one
nogodnomasters23 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Abbey Grace (Maggie McNabb) died in 1919 at age 9. In 1943 a young girl finds a wooden box shallowly buried on top of Abbey's grave. She takes the box, then goes home and murders her family. Didn't see that coming. We now jump to the present...same farm house in New Hamburg, Missouri. Ben (Jacob Hobbs) is a shut-in, deathly scared to go outside and of germs and dirt, thanks to his mother. His sister Stacey (Debbie Sheridan) was more fortunate and cares for Ben, going to town to fetch his coconut water. When Stacey discovers said box in basement, the expected haunting happens. We get a one sentence explanation at about a half hour into the movie and the rest follows.

The plot was repetitive. Ghost wants something returned. Our ghost can move objects, including the box, possesses people etc, but can't find a way to take the box back. Trying to ignore that, I didn't find the jump scares effective. The voice enhancer for the spirit was a cheap laugh. Debbie Sheridan was great as the sister, later she was a laugh with that constant neck creak. Amber Gallaway was unconvincing in her role. Jacob Hobbs was fairy decent, the bright spot of the film.

Guide: 1 quick distorted F-word. No sex or nudity.

The dog should have won a oscar for carrying this movie!
Thullin1320 January 2019
The dog was the best actor in the movie, which probably explains why the first 20 minutes of the film was focused on the dog itself.... 2 stars just for effort but truthfully everything about this movie is just plain stupid and saturated in contrived pretension..

Please read ... Really bad...
abbyruschak4 February 2017
This was probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my short life... First off the acting is so bad it was the only thing that kept me interested. They might as well have had scripts in front of them, reading off a piece of paper. Seriously guys, there is little to no plot and things happen throughout the movie that are never explained. Confusing and awful. I usually don't write reviews on movies because I usually don't care enough to, but this movie was so terrible I was absolutely amazed. Speechless in fact. Lol you can watch this if you want but it would be and enormous waste of time. There was one guy who was supposed to have and accent of some sort but it was so bad i couldn't tell if it was a native African accent or a Russian accent. At one point he sounded Irish I swear... The camera work was the only good part about the whole movie. Whoever was behind the camera shots those were good. Then there were some scenes that were obviously put in the movie just to take up space. Like they didn't even make sense. This movie was just very confusing and ridiculous Lol.

Slapstick Horror
ccladue-968-31640118 August 2017
The first five minutes of this almost seem as if an actual movie is starting. Unfortunately, such is not the case. The plot involves a vengeful ghost and a man who "can't" leave the house mostly out of fear of germs. Another reviewer mentioned "effects", but I don't see any here. Well, the layered voice of the possessed, maybe, as an audio effect, but irritating beyond words.

Watch closely in hilarity as the actors and even the dog slip and do missteps throughout. It has the feel of watching an elementary school play. There is not the slightest sense of suspense or horror at all, only unexpected giggles.

In fact, the "vicious" dog actually looks as if he was either thrown down the stairs from an unseen stagehand or, as suggested in another scene, the area was so slippery the dog bashed his head straight down into the floor while running and slipping before a brief recovery. They actually left this in.

Then there is the bizarre anticlimactic line regarding "so this is what you were up to while I was possessed". Such deadpan humor. Too bad the rest is not that quirky.

Still, just try to hold a straight face without bursting out in giggles every few minutes. I dare you.

Better yet, have a small drink every time Ben sanitizes his hands and you will be out cold before it is halfway over.

Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely ass. Idk how they managed to cast a black dude with a fake African accent. Just get an actor with an African accent. Not to mention the acting itself. Why would you spend the time and money in casting people who can't get into character. Probably cause no one else wanted the role for such a terrible plot. I've never been cheesed so many times, like the jump scares really are the definition of cheese. Honestly I've never seen a slower ghost with an agenda in my life. Her whole deal is to murder everyone but does it like a paraplegic. Please spare yourself the stroke because this cringe fest is insane. Again, I don't know why a black man, trying to do an African accent, sounded Russian half the time. It was hilarious. The brunette also, who ended up being the sexy klutz type, was just terrible. Probably the worst acting beides the black guy. But her acting was just cringe and not funny. Tell me why they decided to throw a sad montage into a horror movie, like wasn't expecting to see the main characters crying after Cugo Pt. 2 happened. Again this was a horror movie. I also loved the awkward cuts into random scenes of the characters standing around and reading their script lines. Then using those scenes in the film. Apparently they took one take to the next level, because I don't think they reshot any scenevent more than once. Just save yourself the stroke and watch a different movie. A germophobe, Fan Service lady, paraplegic limp lady, and that one little goth girl from Deadpool don't make a good film when mixed together.

Great movie poster but that is about it

Warning: Spoilers
I'll start by saying I'm a big fan of the horror genre, and tend to like Way more movies that I dislike.

The set up for this movie is plausible and very interesting. The execution was horrible.

The acting by the main character is good. The portrayal of someone with OCD was very stereotypical. To the point of being offensive to anyone that has ever known anyone with the disorder . And predictably, the person is basically cured at the end of the movie which doesn't happen in real life.

The psychiatrist/psychologist in the movie is way too young to have that much education. She is supposed to be educated presumably, but consistently uses improper grammar. A trained psychiatrist would know the difference between well and good. The dialogue is horrible. It sounds like she's still in gradeschool.

The main character was semi well done.

Although the characters maybe good actors, you wouldn't know what because they aren't even trying in this movie.

The special effects were few and far between, and not very good.

I took away two stars because they broke a very basic horror movie rule. You don't hurt dogs. And you don't hurt children. They almost killed a dog, and a child was killed. 0/2.

The more I think about it, the more upset I am that I paid money to watch this on voodoo.

All I ask is a tall tale and a hook to bludgeon it with
killercharm13 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A brother and sister who are an OCD patient and a psychologist. I think? Anyway, contrary to popular opinion I liked this one just fine. It could have been much better with so few tweaks, frinstance the sister's possession could have easily been much creepier, but these are mostly stylistic tweaks I think of. The heart and meat of the movie had good tension, I mean, seriously, keeping me ALL tensed up. All I ask is a tall tale and a hook to bludgeon it with. This sister's love for her big ol' dog was endearing and provided great tension because of how much the brother hated the dog's big slobbery self. One thing, every time the brother's humanity shone through his OCD, as, for instance, when the very dog he hated was killed, it did much to deepen the movies meaning. I liked everything except the pandering to the obsequels (obvious sequel possibilities).

Tropes: pet killed, birds fly into house.

I liked it. Not sure what these other guys are thinking.
FrankBanis4 May 2017
Have no idea what those one star guys were watching. It wasn't the best movie ever but it was a good haunted house movie that I could watch with my kids. The acting was mostly pretty good. Stacey and the dog were great, I liked the male lead, my wife not so much. Also really like the flashback Abbey Grace scenes.

Two Thumbs Up !!
phantomstage26 December 2016
Just watched this film and it held my interest the whole way through. I really enjoyed the plot, and the pace was perfect!! Great special effects too, the highly trained vicious bedeviled and berserk dog Duke was a scary plus to the movie also. Ben one of the main characters played by Jacob Hobbs as an Agoraphobic with severe OCD seemed genuine in his acting. The other main character Stacey, Ben's suddenly possessed sister played by Debbie Sheridan brought nice realism to the strong character she portrayed.

Abbey Grace played by Maggie McNabb the central character and main protagonist of the movie, is the orphaned child who wants what was once hers returned to her, or else. Is Abbey a ghost, a demon, is she good, evil or vindictive, or all these? See for yourself you will not be disappointed !!

Good Special Effects.
sgdptech8 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This was a highly unusual ghost story movie, the plot was well planned, the special effects very convincing, the story line was acceptable and although I rate it at 7.5 stars, it was mostly for the great special effects.

The actors unfortunately left much to be desired in the way the dialogue was spoken, at times it seemed painfully obvious they were reading from cue cards, or in other words their dialogue was completely without feeling and totally lacking in sounding convincing.

The ending was a nice touch, but again, the person we saw dragged under that shed...was not the same as the one that grabbed Stacey, unless of course they had a communal living arrangement under the shed.
