A great Adult Cinema director -worthy of rediscovery

I'm finally catching up with a top talent of the Adult world, Kris Kramski, who seems to have had his career misplaced somewhere in the last two decades. "Klimaxx" represents an evidently big-budget project (shot on film) 20 years back that demonstrates considerable creativity within the non-narrative Andrew Blake/gonzo format.

Shot in Budapest, Vienna and L.A. with largely unfamiliar but talented thesps, its five vignettes are each unique and arresting visually. KK takes chances and seems uninfluenced by others.

The most astounding segment for me was one shot in a foundry, where we have explicit sex acts photographed in the foreground while steel is being smelted in the background. It's amazingly realistic and dangerous looking. Marcella Reeves is quite a find as the lass having sex under these strange circumstances.

Other scenes are quite bizarre, notably a couple of beauties in a public lavatory masturbating with what look like sticks of dynamite -one of whom is blasted by a goofball guy arriving with a flame-thrower! The violence is suggested rather than gory but the overall effect is disturbing.

Fetish garb and familiar hospital settings for probing are part of KK's bag of tricks but he manages to avoid the clichés that even a genre expert like Tanya Hyde commits.

This is well worth catching for fans of the bizarre, and the stray praise already posted in IMDb for several other KK features indicates to me that there is an awareness of his achievements out there, waiting to coalesce into an archival movement. Certainly the current hacks reigning over porn production (you know who you are) would do well to seek out Kramski's videos and see how it's really done by an artist.
