Very Bleak recreation of the interrogation of Rudolph Hoss.
t-dooley-69-38691629 March 2017
In 1946 Rudolf Hoss was awaiting trial in a Polish prison but he had yet to confess. The authorities sent a young Polish lawyer to interview him and find out as much of the truth as he could.

Hoss was the longest serving commandant of Auschwitz and as such sent so many people to their deaths that it is almost impossible to have anything but contempt for him.

Now this is a bleak film with undertones quite literally running through the sound track that add a sense of looming doom to the film. The actors are all very good despite the sets being minimalistic and the subject matter so dark.

As you would expect this is as far from a 'feel good' film as you could imagine, but the one thing that struck me was the way you start to nearly feel sorry for Hoss as if he were a victim too. That said I did say 'nearly' and that has to be some sort of achievement for a film with such narrow horizons as this – hence my rating.

a account of the interrogation of an SS Officer

Warning: Spoilers
having just watched this, I'm unsure what to say about it, its a brief insight in to the mind of the Commandant of Auschwitz Rudolf Hoess, all i can say is its sobering stuff, the only problem is you start to get in to the mind of Hoess and its all over, Its too brief a confession, Compared to Schindler's list where one can see warped and savage Goeth is, this is purely a deathbed confession. simply i was this man, I ran a savage regime saw that was vile, but i took an oath of total obedience, that's my get out clause..

its all over before you realise, but then this is an account of a confession via interrogation.

the two players are superb, very believable...Albert gets what others had failed to get from Hoess, both are award winning performances worth watching
